Roku vs. Apple TV (1 Viewer)

I have an ipad 2 and an iphone 5, but a windows 7 desktop.

It seems that Roku has alot more channels including amazon instant video.

Does anyone know if roku compatible with itunes?

Also, is Apple TV somehow more compatible with an ipad or iphone whereas roku is not compatible with apple devices?

Just bought a Google Chromecast for 39.00. Awesome device, and can be used on all platforms.

First off, I am Apple biased, but I love the AppleTV regardless.

Not sure about the Roku, but you can play audio and video from iOS devices with the AppleTV (with AirPlay) It is an easy switch, on a iPhone 4/5 you flip the screen up with your finger and you can get AirPlay from there. You can play Media from iTunes easily into the AppleTV; it is done through 'Home Sharing.' On my Mac, I have an app that allows me to play audio from one source on the computer (e.g. Spotify) to the AppleTV without all of the other audio going (beeps for mail, etc.) It is called Airfoil and is available for Windows, too. With Airfoil, you can transmit the audio to multiple AppleTVs simultaneously, so if you have one in the basement and the first floor and are having a party, the same music will play on both.

I also like the way that you can use your pics as a screensaver for your TV, while playing audio. It can be mesmerizing, as we have three little kids and I have put 700 or so pictures in a PhotoStream for the AppleTV to use, and they come up randomly on the screen and can be fun to watch.

Some of these may be available on Roku or other devices, I just bought AppleTVs mainly to keep my media simple. With Macs and iOS devices, you are tied to iTunes, so take advantage of it.

My wife and I have iphones, but we have Rokus. Amazon instant video was the reason why. We have 2 kinds and aren't dropping ipad money on them...so they have kindles. All of our video purchases are through amazon.

Would wish Apple TV had. Amazon instant tv on it, but you can use airplay and make it work.

I have both, like both, but enjoy the Apple TV a tad more.
