Landry was >>>>>> than Harper in college. They were not even close. I like Harper however and think he will be a good SS but Landry, like others have said already, has potetial to be a stud. This really isn't a debate IMO.after I read both the profiles that seems to make sense, even though watching them both in college I would say that they were abut equal. Didn't know Harper's injury was an acl tear. That seals the deal. Often the guys who aren't the best physical specimens can turn into uber-studs (see DeMeco Ryans. A lot of people were knocking his size and speed coming into last season).
I wrote both those profiles, FWIW, in case you're wondering whether you're getting two different viewpoints. I think most of the salient points have been covered, but the bottom line is that Landry is a much better raw talent than Harper, not taking anything away from Harper who should be fine. There's no downside to Landry's scheme or opportunity. If anything, it's as nice as can be expected, while Harper may rotate out for a few snaps each game if the recent notes from New Orleans prove true. The ACL thing isn't a huge deal in my mind as Harper won't need to change direction that often nor require much recovery speed in coverage if he takes the proper angles. All things considered, though, the difference in talent, opportunity and perceived durability make this a pretty clear case for Landry. The difference isn't huge as Tony noted -- one has #1 overall upside, the other could well be a DB1 if things break right.after I read both the profiles that seems to make sense, even though watching them both in college I would say that they were abut equal. As someone who has seen both extensively, Landry is somewhat overrated. He's a fantastic tackler and blitzer, but his zone coverage and ball skills are lacking for someone with so much hype. Also, he never really improved over the course of his college career: His freshman season was far and away his best year, he struggled big-time as a sophomore, and his junior and senior seasons were solid but not outrageously productive as his draft position would suggest. He should be a very nice NFL player, but comparisons to Ed Reed and the like are WAY off.Harper is obviously still an incomplete picture as an NFL player. He really can't afford to lose a step and if the ACL is not fully recovered then his effectiveness will really suffer.Landry was >>>>>> than Harper in college. They were not even close. Which is why Landry will play SS, not FS. He'll be in and around the box and covering the occaisonal tight end. I also don't think it's fair to say that his coverage skills are lacking. While he may not excel in that area as he does in other areas, he's still at worst an average coverage safety. The one downside I see in Landry from a fantasy perspective for this year is London Fletcher. Will Fletcher's presence decrease Landry's potential tackle opportunities?Afro Samurai said:As someone who has seen both extensively, Landry is somewhat overrated. Landry until you hear different from truth reported above. If Harper is declared every down player in pre-season, i'm going with him. Until that time, take Landry.Another factor with Harper is the fact that he'll be used in somewhat of a sfaety rotation with Kaesviharn and Bullocks.
I don't see Bullocks eating into any of Harper's time.Another factor with Harper is the fact that he'll be used in somewhat of a sfaety rotation with Kaesviharn and Bullocks.
Saints homer here. Harper is the uncontested SS, with Bellamy backing up. Bullocks is fighting off KK for the starting FS spot. Harper is not in a rotation.Word on the street is Bullocks is heading to the bench.Another factor with Harper is the fact that he'll be used in somewhat of a sfaety rotation with Kaesviharn and Bullocks.
Kaesviharn will rotate with safeties Josh Bullocks and Roman Harper.
I think this is right. I think Bullocks is headed for breather/injury/big nickel (if they play any) duty only ...Saints homer here. Harper is the uncontested SS, with Bellamy backing up.
