Funny that you went with the subtitles, I downloaded the series (no subtitles) but would often have a web page with Deadwood transcripts open in case I wanted to verify things.I have watched the whole series 3-4 times and it keeps getting better. Some of the most colorful dialogue ever. Al is priceless, one of the best characters in the history of cinema. That's an excellent description and I often times had to rewind the DVD to catch everything that was said. There's an element of Shakespear to it and more often than not, I watched it with the sub-titles on underneath to catch it all.I have all of season 3 and part of season 2 left in the tank. I got a little tripped up over the plots involving Heart's right hand man and the scheme of Mrs. Isringhausen to blackmail the widow. Confused the hell out of me.Funny sidenote....when I watched Six Feet Under again, I noticed that the Widow Garret also played the Rabbi in a couple of episodes. And though I'm not positive of this, I THINK Dan Doughterty was also in an episode of SFU as a member of a biker gang who held a funeral for a fallen gang member at the Fisher house. Lastly, Pam from The Office went a couple of dates with Rico, including attending Nate and Brenda's wedding while he was seperated from Vanessa.Chaka said:Deadwood is probably my top HBO show (but Rome & The Wire are right up there too). Deadwood can be difficult because they use so much indirect language (I don't mean foul language) particularly Al who has his hands into so many schemes that it can become confusing. It probably requires more than one viewing to follow all the subplots. Still, it pains me that Milch walked away from it when there was still so much to be done. Unfortunately, like Rome, the production costs were so high that it really became prohibitive to doing long runs.Red Eyed and Blue said:I had the exact same problem! Blockbuster doesn't carry Season 4 and beyond, which I found out the hard way. Hollywood Video carries all the seasons, so if you have a Hollywood Video in your area, go there.I've never seen the Wire, but might try that one out. I think you'll really like Six Feet Under's final few seasons. The final episode gave me goose bumps and was everything the Sopranos finale episode wasn't. Incredible TV....I tried to get into Deadwood and made it through the first season and a half before tiring of it. I'll pick it back up at some point as I liked it, but it ranks below some of the other HBO series for me.I still can't believe how dreadful John From Cincinnati turned out....I am at the start of season 4 on Six Feet Under right now. And I'm pissed because the video store's DVD's are all jacked up and I have to go find season 4 somewhere else now.My fiancé had never seen Six Feet Under, which is my favorite HBO series of all time. So we started from the beginning and watched them all. She absolutely loved it, which made me realize for the 200th time that I was marrying the right gal. Even though I saw every episode before, I also enjoyed watching the entire series again from start to finish. Just a magnificent series.I own the first season of Rome on DVD and am hoping she enjoys this series as much as I did. I'm not sure when we'll start it up, but it's sitting there waiting for us. Rome didn't get a whole lot of publicity, but it was another outstanding HBO production. I hope to enjoy a second viewing of this as much as I enjoyed the encore of Six Feet Under. But right now, I think I have to rate it below The Wire (not by far), in the same tier as The Sopranos. I can't believe it took me this long to get to it.

I knew I knew the actor in Dexter. He was the best thing to happen to that show in many years. THere's a scene between the two of them in a bar that's about as good as that show has ever been.
