Why aren’t any big tech run by right folks?Manster said:Big tech is run by a bunch of leftists, plain and simple. It's not a conspiracy when ur guy says it about the other guy. The left is convinced that any bad thing brought up about Trump is true, just as anything he makes accusations about is a lie.....the truth is prolly somewhere in the middle.
I no longer do FB. Never had twitter, and I'm working on leaving google, amazon, and the rest behind. Not because of any conspiracy. I just don't like their politics, or their influence. Unplugging to a point seems like a good thing, imo.
It's a good question....Why aren’t any big tech run by right folks?
I find it hard to believe all big tech is run by the left. Do folks realize how hard that is to believe? In addition, these huge companies may have CEOs/Presidents but all of those leaders report to a board of directors who don’t give two damns about your social issues unless they feel it will hit their bottom lines. It's a good question....
I think just like Hollywood, it's not hip, or trendy to be more conservative......I'm not saying it's all bad, it's just how it is. These tech types live in liberal cities, so even if they maybe leaned more conservative at some point, they are going to be mostly around a left crowd......group think is always infectious.
No need to apologize. You have your perspective. I have mine.I find it hard to believe all big tech is run by the left. Do folks realize how hard that is to believe? I apologize if I am sounding dismissive, but I am not buying all big tech is left at all.
Is it possible someone can believe in liberal ideology without doing so purely because of group think/peer pressure etc.?It's a good question....

I think you are right, to an extent. None of this is black and white. There are plenty of people who think for themselves whether left, right, center, whatever. Is it possible someone can believe in liberal ideology without doing so purely because of group think/peer pressure etc.?
While I don’t agree Big Tech is run by “the left”, perhaps being at the forefront of technology requires progressive thinking which extends into political preference?
But thanks to the slow erosion of impartiality in our MSM, the marketplace for extremism is now huge. It's become so large (on both sides really) that it barely even fits the definition of extremism. The free market OFTEN fails to solve problems because it doesn't really care about solving them unless it can find a profit in it.timschochet said:This really isn’t a problem, because capitalism and the free market solves it nicely. These companies have decided their brand will be damaged long term If they continue to allow extreme voices unfettered access. Who decides what is extreme? The marketplace.
You do realize that when you're sitting on the far right, even folks in the center become leftists?Manster said:Big tech is run by a bunch of leftists, plain and simple. I'm nowhere near the far right, if that's what you're insinuating. I hate far left, and right about equally, for different reasons. You do realize that when you're sitting on the far right, even folks in the center become leftists?
My point is that most of these places are making a very real attempt to stay neutral. My FB feed is chock full of right wing propaganda
Perhaps I'm confusing you with someone else as I just got back from a ridiculous timeout. My point could still apply though. The worst aspect of Trump IMO has been a normalizing of demonizing those on the other side. I know many conservatives (including most of my family) whose politics aren't all that extreme, but who somehow have come to think of ANYONE remotely on the left as socialists and enemies. Me included :(I'm nowhere near the far right, if that's what you're insinuating. I hate far left, and right about equally, for different reasons.
Thank you for the respectful post.No need to apologize. You have your perspective. I have mine.
I realize it's broad stroke to say big tech is run by leftists.
I don't align with what I see from most of Hollywood and the folks running big tech.....maybe that's all I should say. I don't like the direction these people are trying to take us. I'm not saying it's all bad. I agree with some issues.....I think everyone deserves equality..... I just don't agree with how many of these folks plan to get there.
I understand....my core group is a pretty good mix politically. And I do think trump's vitriol did not help things, but it goes deeper than that, imo. I think we were heading for this before Trump....he accelerated it. Big picture to me is we just don't listen to each other and we are addicted to "likes" and positive feedback on social media.....we are reinforced and the other guys are idiots....it all happens at break neck speed on the internet......FB literally manipulates how we receive information to keep us on the teet so to speak......it's not healthy for a lot of people.Perhaps I'm confusing you with someone else as I just got back from a ridiculous timeout. The use the word "radical" freely and incorrectly. Something has gone very very wrong when a relative moderate like Biden is a "radical socialist"
The converse is also true. There are plenty of people who think for themselves whether left, right, center, whatever.
I think it's complicated.....The converse is also true.
Do you think there is a difference in the percentage of free thinkers according to where they fall on the political spectrum?
Of course. Personally, I believe we’re all less free thinking than we’d like to admit. Between our family/social circle, media, educational background, religion, etc., it’s really difficult to approach any topic without bias and outside influence.I think it's complicated.....
I tend to agree with this. There's potentially a lot of peer pressure.....now more than ever.Of course. Personally, I believe we’re all less free thinking than we’d like to admit. Critical thinking takes a lot of work, and most of us are pretty lazy intellectually.
