Ronnie Brown (1 Viewer)

Eminence

Ryan Mathews is going to miss a few weeks and I believe that means SOMEBODY will be a value in the San Diego backfield. They player that will likely get the first crack at carries is Ronnie Brown. He has been running with the first string offense since Mathews went down.

Fact, the Raiders were the 6th worst defense against the run last year.

Brown should get 15+ carries and has the potential to score a touchdown and catch a few passes. I don't have confidence in anyone other than Antonio Gates to consistently get open in the red zone on this team and I think the Chargers will need to score more than a few Touchdowns to win this game.

EDIT: If you are saddled down with a player like Richardson or Peterson who might be limited the first few weeks, Brown is your guy. Alternatively, if your flex consists of guys like David Wilson (not enough snaps Week 1) or Mikel Leshoure (suspended) he can also be your guy.

Ronnie Brown to be 'very involved' in opener

It won't be all Ronnie Brown, all the time.

Others will see snaps in the backfield, too.

But the Chargers do plan to give the running back a large role in Monday night's season opener against the Raiders. Brown is expected to start in place of Ryan Mathews, who was officially ruled out on Saturday.

Left tackle Jared Gaither (back) is also out, and nose tackle Antonio Garay (ankle), after three days of limited practice, is listed as questionable.

"Ronnie Brown, I'd like to see him be very involved in the offense," coach Norv Turner said.

That sounds good to Brown.

The 30-yard-old saw only 42 touches last season in Philadelphia.

He hasn't seen 20 touches in a game since Nov. 28, 2010, coincidentally in Oakland against the Raiders. Then with the Dolphins, Brown had 24 carries for 85 yards.

"When a coach has the confidence in you to be able to put the ball in your hands," Brown said, "I think that always says something."

Luckily, even though Ronnie has deteriorated as a runner, he's still a fine pass catcher, and thus will remain in the gameplan from start to finish even if he can't find room on the ground. I don't know that I'd feel comfortable with anything more than a RB3 start in non PPR leagues if you have a Mathews/Stewart as your typical RB3.

In PPR, I'd be a bit more comfy with a reasonable floor of 10 or so, ceiling of 22.

Love the feedback negative predictions get. Yeah, I didn't start him but there seemed to be enough opportunity there but when it comes down to it Ronnie Brown is done.

Ryan Mathews is a 20+ touch a game a player. He deserves the touches due to talent and that is why they feed him the ball.

While Ronnie Brown had the skillset he is not the player he once was and got a fairshare journeyman's workload.

This will help me make better Fantasy Football decisions in the future.
