Rookie DLs? (1 Viewer)

Which rookie DLs will start this year? I know Denver drafted two dl and is it possible they both start?

Some info would be nice

Denver actually drafted 3 DL this year.

I think it is very possble Moss or Crowder starts, and also Marcus Thomas perhaps.

off the top of my head

Gaines Adams and Jamaal Anderson should start. If Greg Ellis achilles isnt ready (i dont think it will be), Anthony Spencer should get to start at 3-4 OLB. Dont be surprised if Ikaika Alama-Francis comes along faster than anyone thinks he will and gets a lot of snaps in Detroit. Charles Johnson could also be poised to start if Mike Rucker struggles or gets hurt again.

Alan Branch should be playing nose when Arizona flashes a 3-4 look, but thats a fantasy wasteland. Justin Harrell could start for GB but he's also more of a plugger. Amobi Okoye is interesting, he should start very soon and has the quicks and pass rush instincts to put a good fantasy DT for leagues that break out that position. Adam Carriker will start, and play mostly inside from what I hear. Im not high on his fantasy prospects as either, but he'll help Little, Hall, and Adenyanju make plays. A few other sleepers are Turk McBride (great cover 2 DT), Brian Robison (someone has to rush the passer in Minnesota), and Jay Moore (listed as DL, but seemed like a 3-4 OLB to me)

Bloom>what are your thoughts on how the Steelers will use Woodley?Quentin Moses also seems like he could win a starting spot in Oakland.

Thanks for catching my omission of Moses - he should push Brayton from day one. I wish I could say what they were thinking when they took Woodley. Sadly, I believe it points to an ultimate move to the cover 2. After all, Tomlin seemed obsessed with the Timmons/Brooks comparison. Also, Woodley did not "prove" in the pre-draft season that he could move to 3-4 OLB - he was too banged up, so I can't assume they are counting on that. Woodley does seem like he'd be a decent end in the cover 2, just pin his ears back and go after the QB...Needless to say, the Woodley pick made me :lmao: and even a bit  - but for this year, while we are still a 3-4 D, its hard to see him starting - although some 3rd down pass rush assignments should be on his plate. If Harrison or Higgins can't stay healthy, he could be more ready to play in that spot than Timmons, but I cant be sure that Woodley will converted to OLB - very interested to see how this develops in camp. Wish I could be a fly on the wall in Latrobe.

I agree with Sig (including Moses). McBride may get a small bump in value early this season as he could get the bulk of the snaps for Jared Allen at end over Jimmy Wilkerson. Moore is going to be converted to a 3-4 OLB primarily, although he will still see some snaps at end according the Mike Nolan. You may also want to keep an eye on the Bucs' Greg Peterson, who apparently has really caught the eye of the coaching staff as their next big UT prospect. He may not grow into that role until 2008, but the coaches really seemed to single him out in the pre-mini-camp press conferences and he could show up in the boxscores sooner.

I couldn't find a better place to stick this, so I'll throw it in here.

The Rams dealt NT Jimmy Kennedy to the Broncos today. That's probably not great news for the prospects of Adam Carriker. Carriker was getting snaps at NT and the 3-tech in mini-camps and there doesn't appear to be a clear successor to Kennedy at NT on the roster.

Carriker isn't going to have much potential if he takes a bunch of snaps each game at NT. I was looking forward to seeing what he could do as a disruptive DT. :bye:

Carriker is still an interesting prospect for leagues that break out DT, but agreed on the hit for possible snaps at NT now.Is this a precursor to the Rams getting Kris Jenkins after all?

Could be. Jenkins is apparently big enough to play NT now although that was never his style of play.

I don't like Denver's rotational system involving several players a game, now possibly including (wait for the training camp battle results) the newly signed DT's Jimmy Kennedy (ex-Rams, hardly no production with former club) and Sam Adams (now a has been?). What does this say about the rookie Marcus Thomas and the younger talent on the defensive line?

Jim Bates wants big bodies to clog the middle. They weren't readily available in free agency so he tried to target the biggest guys he could find that were/came available -- Wilkinson, Adams, Kennedy. I think Marcus Thomas will play the bulk of the snaps if/when he proves himself ready and motivated. Jarvis Moss is going to be used a lot like Robert Geathers was last year in Cincinnati -- he'll be on the field on any snap where there may be a pass. If he's the pass rusher some think he is, he'll be productive. Neither he nor Elvis Dumervil are going to be good run stoppers anyway. Neither are likely to be productive tacklers no matter how many snaps they play.

Has Jarrett Johnson been converted to OLB in Baltimore now.
I can't remember which thread this came up in this week but, yes, I think if Johnson earns a starting job with Adalius Thomas gone, he'll be an OLB. If he remains a backup, he'll probably see time at both OLB and DE as he did in 2005 and 2006.
