So it looked like Best was gonna roll and win ROY early on, now its an open race...

Who do you all think has the best chance to be the Rookie of the year this season?

Ya Bradford is definately a front runner, but I also had a chance to watch him against the Bucs this week and he really did not look so great.

Yeah, If a Rookie QB takes his team to a .500 record, he will always get MVP, see Vince Young's season
Kyle Orton (10-5), Chris Chandler (9-4) and Mark Sanchez (8-7) disagree.Bradford's throwing a ton of passes, and his team isn't very good, so enough wins could help. On the other hand, their schedule is very easy and he's not putting up even mediocre efficiency numbers. So we'll see. Hardly a lock at this point. Mike Williams and Jahvid Best could end up with big years. And Bradford's Rams could still go 5-11.

Bradford or Williams so far. Presume we're just talking offense at the moment.

By year end Hernandez could be up there (he'll never win it as he's a TE).

IMO Jahvid Best is not even in the discussion. He has rushed 80 times this year for 257 yards (3.2 average) on a poor team. It will come down to Bradford or Williams.

Lets rephrase that. A highly drafted rookie QB will always get ROY consideration if his team does well. Or in Sanchez' case, doesn't have a negative TD/Int ratio.

Bradford play poorly yesterday. He missed throws that he has been making all year. He's a rookie, it's going to happen. He was very pissed at himself after the game in the interviews.

That may be the case on Best, but if you project his overall numbers (total yards, td's, receptions) over a full season, they're very impressive for a rookie.

Did any of those guys take over a team that was 1-15 the year before? And have to deal with a receiving corps of castoffs, rookies and no-names?

I understand why Bradford would get it, but between Bradford and Williams I think only one has a realistic shot at the pro-bowl, and it isn't Bradford.

Dez Bryant had to move up after last night's performance. If he and Kitna establish a connection he could move up even more.

And for those thinking Ndamukong Suh was a good post relize that the OP mentioned offense ROY. Suh is probably the no-brainer pick for defensivee ROY.

Chicago was 5-11 the year before Orton, and 10-5 with Orton, which seems like as impressive of a turnaround as Bradford's. The only players to top 200 yards receiving were Muhsin Muhammad (castoff), Justin Gage (no name), Bernard Berrian (rookie- well, actually, 2nd year player), Mark Bradley (rookie), and Desmond Clark (no name).I suspect the main reason Orton didn't win it was because... well... he was terrible. 5.1 ypa, 9 TDs vs. 13 INTs. He was obviously just along for the ride as a rookie.

really the only people I can think of for OROY:Bradford, Bryant and Best (from order of most likely to least likely).

it will be one of the B's.

Most of it in garbage time , not even close.Best is a poor man Ahmad Bradshaw.
Okay, first of all we've been over this in the Best thread. His stats did not mostly come in garbage time and people need to stop assuming that2nd of all, you're going to tell us he's a "poor man Ahmad Bradshaw" after seeing him play healthy in 2 games including one where he absolutely lit it up? Let's be serious now, we don't know how good Best is or how good he could be. Why don't we wait and see.

1. Sam Bradford

2. Mike Williams

3. Jahvid Best

4. Dez Bryant

5. Aaron Hernandez

6. Tony Moeaki

7. Dave Gettis

8. LaGarette Blount

9. Ryan Mathews

I think these eight have a chance to take the honors. Bradford and Williams are probably the clear-cut favorites, but Best can work his way back into contention if healthy after the bye week and Stafford doesn't mess up the chemistry that this offense has slowly built with Hill. If Stafford's presence improves things and Best is healthy, I think he's the best talent. Dez Bryant's three touchdown performance is a signal that he's healthy enough to make a run at Roy Williams' job. Regardless of whether he gets it, he'll see a lot of slot time which could spell Percy Harvin-like production that fuels a run to the top of this list if the other three ahead of him play like they have in recent weeks. If the Patriots figure out how to get Hernandez open in space and not bracketed (which is a sign that he belongs on this list in itself), he could have some big weeks to fuel a run but he's the first of the true long shots. Moeaki is likely stuck where he is because the Chiefs have figured out their ground game and won't need to rely on him as much in the red zone. Gettis opposite Steve Smith could have more big games to fuel a mini-run, but I doubt he's consistent enough at this stage of his career to do it. Mathews needs a monster second half and the Chargers passing game is so devastated with injuries that I think opponents want to dare them to throw it. Blount has a chance to vault 3-4 players on this list with 1st and 2nd down opportunities, but I think his late start will hold him back (if he continues to play well).

how do you know what best is 6 games into his career? i hate this kind of baseless conjecture.

here are the current odds at Sportsbook.com:

Sam Bradford +200 zx Field (Any Other Player) +250 Jahvid Best +400 Ryan Mathews +800 CJ Spiller +1000 Ben Tate +1000 Golden Tate +1500 Dexter McCluster +1500 Dez Bryant +1500 Jordan Shipley +2000 Arrelious Benn +2000 Emmanuel Sanders +2500 Jimmy Clausen +3000 Brandon Lafell +3000 Montario Hardesty +3000 Rob Gronkowski +3000 Toby Gerhart +3000 Jermaine Gresham +3000 Tim Tebow +4000 [Click button to place your wager.]
I put a small play on Bradford a week or so ago at +250. He is a strong favorite today, but it is impossible to know where this will stand in December.Mike Williams is in the field, so that might be decent value

Unless you're predicting another 230/3 game then you can't really just project out his numbers as if he's on some set pace. The guy has averaged 1ypc twice in six games.

So who are you picking at this point? You can throw in Dez Bryant into the conversation as it's only the half way point of the season and he didn't really get a preseason. He could end up with 10 Td's by year's end.If I had a gun to my head, tie always goese to the QB in football.Bradford

It's early but it seems like the Rams and Lions both made the right pick on draft day. I can't remember the last time that the top two picks ended up being the two best players in the NFL from that draft class.

Wow, Dez is a great value bet.Bradford throws 56 times a game, there is a decent shot he finishes the year injured.Dez plays on America's team, and has shown flashes of great play.

I like Dez because he really has been playing hurt the first half and just started to show you what he is capable of, a 3 TD game.

Going forward, I think its Dez Bryant pulling away.

Why is Arian Foster or Hakeem Nicks not in this discussion? Are they not rookies?
Great point. And what about LaDainian Tomlinson...he's having a nice year too!
Look at how smart i am, i know that Foster and Nicks are not rookies, and im not afraid to belittle someone to prove it.

Mike Williams/Sam Bradford neck-and-neck right now... both are consistent, but not outstanding.

Dez Bryant turned a lot heads on a national spotlight though last night... those return TD's are a bonus too.
