Here's a guess at where top-3 round Edge guys might play:

  • Young, Was, 4-3 DE
  • Chaisson, Jac, 4-3 DE
  • Gross-Matos, CAR, 4-3 DE with some OLB snaps?
  • Taylor, Sea, 4-3 DE
  • Epenesa, Buf, 4-3 DE
  • Uche, NE,  3-4 OLB?
  • Okwara, Det, 4-3 DE
  • Zuniga, NYJ, 3-4 OLB
  • Lewis, LAR, 3-4 OLB
  • Greenard, HOU, 3-4 OLB
  • Highsmith, PIT, 3-4 OLB

A guess at the top 3 round LBs:

  • Queen, BAL, 3D MLB
  • Gay, KCC, 3D MLB?
  • Wilson, CIN, 3D WLB? MLB?
  • Baun, NOS, 2D WLB? Assuming Alonso/Davis are 3D?
  • Phillips, CLE, 3D SLB?
  • Harrison, BAL, 3D WLB?
  • Muse, LVR, 2D SLB?
  • Taylor, PHI, SLB?

A guess at the top 3 round safeties:

  • McKinney, NYG, FS
  • Dugger, NEP, L/R?
  • Delpit, CLE, FS
  • Winfield, TBB, L/R?

  • Gross-Matos, CAR, 4-3 DE with some OLB snaps? ))In the sense that the D will be multiple, but safe DE tag.
  • Taylor, Sea, 4-3 DE
  • Epenesa, Buf, 4-3 DE
  • Uche, NE,  3-4 OLB? ))Switchable LB (classic Patriots)
  • Okwara, Det, 4-3 DE ))JACK LB
  • Zuniga, NYJ, 3-4 OLB ))4-3 DE
  • Lewis, LAR, 3-4 OLB
  • Greenard, HOU, 3-4 OLB
  • Highsmith, PIT, 3-4 OLB
My thoughts/beliefs in line.

  • Murray, LAC, 3D MLB? ))WLB
  • Brooks, SEA, 2D SLB? )) reserve WLB unless KJW is cut
  • Queen, BAL, 3D MLB ))WILB
  • Gay, KCC, 3D MLB? ))WLB (splitting hairs tho)
  • Wilson, CIN, 3D WLB? MLB? ))MLB
  • Baun, NOS, 2D WLB? Assuming Alonso/Davis are 3D? ))SLB (Klein replacement)
  • Phillips, CLE, 3D SLB? ))WLB (Wilson at MLB, Takitaki at SLB) I reckon camp battle will determine who comes off in nickel.
  • Harrison, BAL, 3D WLB? ))2D MLB
  • Muse, LVR, 2D SLB? ))Apex safety
  • Taylor, PHI, SLB? ))PT WLB, could develop into 3D MLB in time.
Scratch that Muse edit. Tick has it right at SLB

And iDLs:

Derrick Brown NT

Javon Kinlaw will move around. COULD play enough 3T in that 4-3. Gotta have him DT #1 tho.

Ross Blacklock 3T (SHOULD get DT tag on MFL, but I'm ready for Davenport to screw that up.)

Justin Madubuike 3-4 DE

Neville Gallimore 3T (4-3 DT)

Jordan Elliott 3T (4-3 DT)

Raekwon Davis NT/5T

Marlon Davidson 4-3 SDE

Davon Hamilton NT

Nickel is clearly the Browns base, but I'm sure the opposition will force this team to go 3 LB at times.

FWIW, sounds like Phillips will be competing with Takitaki at WILL.My guess is the few times the team goes 3 LB it'll be Goodson at SAM and Wilson at MIKE, but if Wilson doesn't up his game then Goodson or the loser of Phillips/Takitaki could push Wilson at MIKE. I struggle envisioning a 3 LB alignment with Wilson-Phillips-Takitaki, but if that comes to fruition then that's a great thing for Phillips.

Why would Blacklock get DT designation? He's not a nose. Probably pushed inside on passing downs but I fully expect him to be listed as a DE.

Maybe the most notable item is McKinney being mentioned as a box safety and dime LB.
Yeah, that's a curious take. In what I'm seeing, Gettleman and Judge are praising his versatility but saying his first priority will be deep.

I'm expecting that as well. It's still questionable. Clowney was switche d to DE last year because the Texans are primarily a 4-3 team. But Jake Martin, playing clowney's role (albeit in fewer snaps), has already been switched to LB on MFL. It'd be wonderful if Fantasy Sharks would take a comprehensive approach rather than cherry-pick a few like Clowney and Donald.

My interpretation - he'll be a FS year one and if they don't get fired at year's end then their personnel decisions 10-12 months from now may expand his role in year two. I suppose Julan Love could expedite this process, so he could play closer to the line in dime. But he should never be there at the expense of Jabrill.

Cross-referencing with the MFL positions thread:

  • HOU: Jonathan Greenard from DE to LB
  • NYJ: Jabari Zuniga from DE to LB
  • SEA: Darrell Taylor from LB to DE

Great Info in here guys, (I got Kenneth Murray early and already have Wagner/D.White) I have a very late 3rd and am trying to decide between Gay or Wilson to put on my developmental Taxi Squad for a year or 2.

Gay - is a hair on fire type of tackler and should be 3D but could be more situational to start...dunno

Wilson - Should be 3D early on and Cincy over the years has always had a ton of tackles available.

I'm leaning Wilson.....

Sigmund Bloom@SigmundBloom

This was lost a bit in the post-draft reaction period, but other than Wagner, the Seahawks LB roles/playing time fraught with uncertainty. ATL, NE, DAL on the schedule to open could take advantage of this

Dugar, Michael-Shawn@MikeDugar

#Seahawks GM John Schneider was just asked by @Softykjr on @SportsRadioKJR whether KJ Wright’s job was secure (convo started on Jordyn Brooks). Schneider danced around it. But did note that KJ just had surgery and he doesn’t know when KJ will be back from that. Interesting.

Sounds like Tick had it right from the jump: Queen at MLB, Harrison at WILB. Harbaugh does suggest they'd be somewhat interchangeable tho.

https://www.nbcsports.com/washington/ravens/john-harbaugh-explains-how-ravens-plan-use-first-round-linebacker-patrick-queen

I can't help but think back to Peanut Onwuasor last year. He moved from WILB to MLB and wilted. Ravens signed Josh Bynes to play MLB. My sense was that Bynes held up better at the point of attack with a guard climbing for him while Peanut needed to play behind the 3T.

So I'm a bit surprised the Ravens don't start with Harrison at MLB in base. I'd expect him to come off the field quite a bit since the Ravens have relied so much on Dime the last two years, but I've also read that Harrison "will play a lot."

What do y'all think? Have you read anything more in depth on Ravens LBs? Will they show far fewer Dime looks in 2020? Are you completely comfortable with Queen in the middle?

Tanner Muse - LVR is listed as S in MFL, but all indications are that he’s be in a hybrid linebacker role ( smaller nickel role with chance to expand) and is wearing #55. How likely is this designation to stick this season?

As for the football side, Raiders General Manager Mike Mayock said that he wanted Muse to learn the Mike and Will linebacker positions and be comfortable having a lot of his plate, a responsibility, and challenge that Muse is looking forward to in the next chapter.
