Rookie RB Joe McKnight has reportedly been "at times, difficult (1 Viewer)

McKnight is unwilling to run inside the tackles and makes too many mental errors, both of which were evident on Wednesday night's Hard Knocks episode. At this point, we're not sure he's going to make the team. The Jets could carry two fullbacks, with Danny Woodhead as the No. 3 tailback instead.

How was this guy the top H.S prospect coming out?? Makes you wonder how good Rivals is at evaluating talent??

Rex Ryan calls RB Greene "bell cow"

(FFChamps) Jets coach, Rex Ryan, was frank about the team’s running back situation moving forward. Ryan called second-year back, Shonn Greene, the “bell cow” of the backfield, noting how impressed he’s been with Greene this offseason, especially Greene’s pass protection skills.

I could see a 1500/16 season, nothing is behind this guy on the depth chart that scares anyone.

Nothing except a HOF back who has shown considerable burst in practice/preseason

As for McKnight, just more greatness from USC. Wonderful program.

From what I remember ALL the top colleges wanted this guy? Why would they want a RB who only wanted to run outside?? I dont get it?

College and pro games are very different. You can get away with that in college. You can't in the NFL.

I said during the first game how unimpressed I was with this guy. 10 dollar talent, 10 cent head right now. I hope he gets it, he could really play a nice niche role in this offense.

ETA: I think Woodhead has looked every bit as good as McKnight - albeit with more experience. I wouldn't be too surprised to see Woodhead fill that role for a while.

You still have to run in between the tackles in college? He's not even that fast to be able to get away with it??

He ran for over 1000 yards and averaged over 6 ypc at USC last year without doing so. Not world-beating numbers, but I'd say he got away with it.

I think Woodhead makes the team as a WR, not as an RB. I think McKnight's roster spot is there for Chauncey Washington to take. CW isn't some standout RB, but he is a better all purpose RB than McKnight is. Woodhead can fill in at RB while being listed at WR. Washington because he is more versatile and can run between the tackles is a much better fit than another scat back like McKight is. He can pass block too and he knows the offense.

he looked unbelievably bad on both hard knocks and during monday's pre-season game. Bad attitude, no vision, talking back to the coaches, hitting the holes like a big #####.

looking like a wasted pick at this point.

How much guaranteed money did this guy get?

combine the addition of McKnight with the subtraction of Leon Washington and it looks even worse
1 minus one plus 1 does not equal zero, or less than zero in this case as you imply. LT is there to get the catches, McKnight was never going to replace Leon, at least not this year, that is Tomlinson's job. If McKnight is a fail, there is still Woodhead to play scatabck and some slot. This equation include the loss of Leon and TJ, while replacing TJ with Greene and replacing Leon with some combination of Tomlinson, McKnight and Woodhead. Don't discount C Washington as being part of the mix. If Greene goes down, bet on it, you will see some C Washington on the field. The Jets know Tomlinson's days as bell cow are gone. The Jets will hold out hope for McKnight, but he isn't helping himself. Let me ask this.... if McKnight gets sent to the practice squad, any other team would have to gaurantee him a roster spot to get him? Are there any teams that would do that right now? Honestly, I can see McKnight on the practice squad unless he changes his attitude and the way he is playing.

Losing Jones for Tomlinson does not minimalize the loss of Washington. While I think Greene has some big upside, the loss of a proven grind-it-out back and a very good scat back will be huge, imo. I am higher on Greene than almost anyone here, but I am very worried that Tomlinson is far past his prime and there is a HUGE void of big plays from the running back position. To me, giving Washington away for a song might have a bigger impact than the Jones/Tomlinson exchange. Whether McKnight makes the team or not is not the issue. The loss of Washington, while relying on Tomlinson/McKnight for big plays is the issue, imo.

I don't figure he clears waivers. I mean he'd be waived and hardly have "a leg to stand on" when a new team makes him an offer. If any team had him favorably ranked predraft, they'll invite him for a look. The other thing is this new contract (IIRC) will have zero guarantees attached to it so it's just too darn easy for teams to pass up.The only thing against a guy like him is the obvious fact that, at that point, a team just felt like they had to let good players go to get under the roster limit.

The Jets lost LW last year. The Jets managed to get by. Now they have LT and McKnight. How is that a step back? Washington went down in week 7. The Jets played most of last year without him. You keep saying Tomlison for Jones. Greene is Jones' replacement. It still isn't the 1=1 change you keep calling it. It's a whole new backfield. Tomlinson so far has had some pop, he's looked very good. Better than this skeptical Jets fan had hoped for. McKnight showed some improvement last night. Leon wanted out. He wanted to go to a team that he could get 20 touches for. The Jets got what they could for him.
