Rotoworld Dynasty Rankings RBs (1 Viewer)

You're just trying so hard here that you are throwing common sense out the window, frankly.
Sorry you feel that way...People who "like" certain players are always going to see things in a context that support their opinion. And people who "dislike" certain players are going to see things in a way that fits their opinion. I try to let facts form my opinion as I'm sure most do, but there's probably a bit of disagreement on what exactly is "fact"... which is why we see so many varied opinions.

The problem with this thread, and the board in general, as of recent, is that instead of people arguing based on fact, more and more people are hurling insults around, as if that makes their argument more powerful.

I don't think I've thrown common sense out the window... but hey, whatever.

Common sense indicated Bryant Johnson would be better than Boldin. Common sense said Kevan Barlow was going to be outstanding. Common sense said Brandon Jackson would be the starter in GB, and heck, Ryan Grant was an afterthought. Two years ago common sense said Shaun Alexander was going to be the #1 RB overall ahead of LT. And common sense said Michael Bennett was going to be the better RB FF-wise than LT. Common sense said Ricky Williams was the better RB than Edgerrin James. And the list could go on....

So don't mind me if I don't follow common sense.
Sorry Switz... this is piling up pretty deep. This is not so complicated that we need to start talking about Bryant Johnson and Brandon Jackson... that's a classic "look, shiny things" retort. Point blank, do you sincerely believe, based on the quotes you read yesterday, that Deangelo questions his ability to be a primary RB? That's what you're selling by quipping "Even Deangelo doesn't know if he'll be a starter," and the only thing I referred to as an illogical reading of cliche. The best defense you've offered to your position re: Deangelo is that you've watched him play, and that you simply weren't impressed. Fair enough, I respect that. When you try to reinforce your opinion twisting a player's cliche into actual second-guessing of his own abilities is what I call not using common sense.

ETA: For those who did not see the Deangelo interview linked in the other thread. You be the judge, humility in the face of a loaded/presumptuous question or actual doubt:

Q. How do you feel about your new position as the primary running back? Nervous (smiles). I guess the anticipation is the part that's really nerve-wracking. Because I don't really know if I'll be No. 1, because they can get someone in the draft. It's a competitive league; I'm going to compete, give it 110 percent and see what happens.

Q. You appear to have been working out. Yeah, I've been doing a lot of running because I'm trying to get my wind up. I want to be prepared for whatever comes my way, whether it be 30 carries a game or three. I know I'll be well-prepared and ready to do my duty as a Carolina Panther.

Q. You and Foster were good friends. Was it tough to see him go? I'm going to miss him; mentally, I still feel as if he's still here. It still hasn't completely hit me -- even hearing people talk about it or seeing news reports -- that he's no longer around. I keep thinking, "We start workouts on the 17th; he's going to be there."

It's like something has happened that you don't believe has happened until you see it.

Q. Do you worry that people say you're too small (at 5-foot-9, 217 pounds) to be a starter and get 25 carries a game? It's funny that you mention that because I was reading the newspaper, and I get to the sports section looking for stuff to pick me up, see what the Panthers have done in the draft, see if Memphis kicked some butt (in hoops). And I see this one column that says the team will have to look for a No. 1 running back because I'm pretty much nothing more than a backup. It's cool, though; I like that because it gives me that much more motivation to go out there and prove the critics wrong. I don't have anything to lose, because if I don't do it, (the critics) were right.

Q. Does it seem like you've earned your chance to start? It could appear that way, but if another guy comes in and produces and he's better than me, I'll be the first one to say, "Look, this guy is getting it done." Whatever it takes to win, I'm all about it. To get us to the playoffs, start, come of the bench, be the 12th man, it doesn't matter if we get to the playoffs.

Q. Foster had injury problems, but you seem to be durable (one minor ankle injury in two years), and you were durable in college. It's the luck of the draw. I guess it goes as far as how you take care of yourself, what type of hits you're taking, because you can eliminate a lot of the contact based on how you take them. Not many people taking head-on shots are going to be durable (laughs). Even the great ones, they knew when to get out of bounds, or get down, or take that shot from the side rather than in the mouth. You've got to pick and choose your battles -- wisely.

Q. If the coaches said, "You're getting 25, 28 carries a game," do you feel like you'd be fine? I'll be fine. It's all about a mindset. You get that mindset in practice, the carries you get and how you practice determines your output on Sunday. So if I'm getting two or three carries in practice, that's going to transition into the game. Coach says we're creatures of habit; whatever we do during the course of the week, it carries over to that last day.

Q. How are you currently training? I'm doing long distance running, getting in shape right now, haven't started sprinting work. You see these guys running these 40s (yard dashes) in like 4.2s or 4.3s, but these are same guys that are getting caught on 90-yard runs (laughs). You're the fastest guy in the 40 but the slowest in the 90.

I've watched a lot of DeAngelo, and I don't see starting RB material. He's not even sure he's going to be the starter. I know I'm not alone in that opinion. CAR sucks, and they're loading up at WR, instead of OL, which is what they need if they are going to have a running game. And DA's stats have been largely inflated by third down carries IIRC.
Williams did not have many third down carries:1st down: 68 carries2nd down: 55 carries3rd down: 20 carries4th down: 1 carryTo say his stats were inflated by his third down carries is true but misleading. He had only 12 carries in 3rd & 6+ situations. In his other carries, he had 132/627/3 rushing (4.75 ypc).

As for Ricky Williams, that was probably a very shortsighted ranking. I don't see Brown being rcovered this year, and because of that I think Ricky will see the #1 RB role in MIA for this season. And I think he'll play well enough to get a shot at the #1 gig with another team the following season. Ricky's problem has never been talent, just a head case. If he's matured and gotten it under control, he's low mileage. Could do what Jamal Lewis did last year for a few years yet.I don't project out 5 years like a lot of the great dynasty guys here. Just 2 or 3, I'm not good enough to speculate much further into the future.
I agree with you about how far into the future to project as a general rule (with some exceptions, of course). However, I completely disagree with your ranking of Ricky Williams.First off, on his mileage. He is 9th among active RBs with 1763 carries. Add to that that he had 1011 carries in college, one of the highest totals in history, and then throw in his CFL carries... that does not strike me as low mileage. Then consider he is going to be 31 entering this season and that the last time he had a productive NFL season was 2003... 5 years ago. Can anyone provide an example in which a player had 4 unproductive years and then came back to put up even a single season worthy of a top 25 ranking? And then realize that this is a dynasty ranking...

14. Maroney15. MJD
 I never really considered Switz a poster who provided valuable info, but i read this far down the list and decided to totally ignore anything he posts in the future.
What's wrong with Maroney at 14?
Maroney over MJD?They are the same age, MJD has fnished 8 and 13, while Maroney has finished 23 and 25 over the last two years. MJD is clearly the more talenetd back, and in a better system for RB's, not to mention more durable.
I agree MJD should be ahead of Maroney, but it seems unfair to single out Maroney when 14th seems fair and could even be too low for him. Its the 9-13 guys that are too high not Maroney.

um, no. It didn't. LT was the #5 pick. Bennett was the 3rd Rb taken, #27 overall. Many of us (myself included) drafted LT ahead of Bennett. The only thing saying Bennett would be better was people who greatly overvalue situation. Colts took Edge over Ricky. The rest of your rant, aside from being a rant, is fine, but no need to blatantly lie here.
