Roy Williams overrated this week (1 Viewer)

We have heard Chad Johnson say it but now it comes from a 2nd star WR. I am really hoping Roy goes off but my heart dropped to my stomach when I read this. I expect a below average game from Roy Williams.

"Also, Williams will encounter Packer Al Harris, the player Williams has dubbed the best cornerback in the NFL today.

"Me and him go at it every time we play," Williams said. "So it's fun. He's the best corner in the league, hands down. He's not going to give you the picks (interceptions) that you look for in a corner, but he'll lock that receiver down."

I was actually thinking of benching him for Terry Glenn...can't do that anymore. I do have Devery Henderson. Roy Williams is an enigma - sometimes he has a HUGE game, other times, it's a very average day.

Surprisingly, the Packers D ranks 29th against the opponent WR1 and 3rd against WR2.

I agree Harris is top notch, so I am not sure what the rankings mean.

So the defense is 29th best against the WR1? I'm confused.
That's what the stats say. Normally 29th vs WR1 means the defense's top CB is not that good. I guess Al Harris must spend a good amount of time against the WR2, or the stats of WRs going against him are better than his reputation.

Roy has had an interesting career vs. Green Bay, with each game being better than the last.

2004 wk 14 - 1/13/0

2005 wk 1 - 2/13/0

2005 wk 14 - 4/53/1

2006 wk 3 - 7/138/1

He has also seen an increase in tagets each game.

2004 wk 14 - 6

2005 wk 1 - 7

2005 wk 14 - 9

2006 wk 3 - 11

Thing is, even if Harris lines up over Williams this is not a 1-1 match up. The Packers play more zone than man coverage. Since it is a Cover-2 base the corner is usually up in the flats leaving the safety to cover the deep half of the field. Prolly the reason for the weak ranking vs. #1WRs, see Bears "D", they also have a weak ranking vs. #1WRs. Also, K.J. being out also helps Roy more than it hurts because it gives Martz one more reason to pass, pass, pass.
