Rules Change for Dynasty League (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
I'm in a 12 man dynasty league with standard performance scoring:

Lineup: QB, 1-2 RB, 2-3 WR, TE, K, Def

WR/RB: 6 pt for TD, 1 pt for every 10 yards rushing or receiving, 1 pt per reception

TE: 6 pt for TD, 1.5 pts for every 10 yards rushing or receiving, 1 pt per reception

There is a push to change TE scoring to the same as WR and RB because some say the TE scoring is too high with outlandish scoring efforts from the likes of Antonio Gates.

Others say that the stats don't bear out that TE score too many points despite the anecdotal outrage. It is the lowest scoring of all the skill positions and reducing the TE scoring would move the TE position, since it's required, toward the irrelevance of a kicker or defense.

Without biasing the argument and showing my hand of which side I agree with, I'm looking for input and opinions about TE scoring vs. WR/RB.

All opinions are appreciated!

I am in a league that gives-

.5 ppr to rbs

1 ppr to wrs

1.5 ppr to tes

and I love it. Makes having a top TE worth more.

You can't judge the rule by one player.

Take the 12th best TE or average the Top 12 and see where the average compares to the rest of your scoring system.

Using the scoring system you have:(TE1) Gates = 170.1 + 89 (PPR) + 78.15 (extra 0.05/yard) = 337.25

(WR1) Steve Smith = 236.8 + 103 (PPR) = 339.8

(TE12) Ben Troupe = 77 + 55 (PPR) + 26.5 (extra 0.05/yard) = 158.5

(WR12) Terry Glenn = 161.2 + 62 (PPR) = 223.2

So Gates goes up (appreciably) to Stud WR status, comparable to that career year Steve Smith had.

However, Ben Troupe (TE12) doesn't even equal WR12 (Glenn) with this scoring system.

I think it is fine.

In fact, any scoring system is fine as long as you know how to tweak the Draft Dominator. Bring on the freaky scoring systems and watch how DD makes your life easy. The more the scoring system takes you away from ADP, the more DD helps.

I am in two leagues that give the TE extra rewards. Both are extra PPRs - .5 more than WRs in one (.5RB - 1/WR - 1.5/TE) and the other the TE gets 2ppr (compared to 1 for WR and 0 for RB).

TE is required in the first, not in the second.

Both work out fine and TEs are drafted accordingly to their output.

I am not a big fan of changing rules in a dynasty league, it is almost like changing rules in the middle of the year. Teams should know the league rules prior to the draft and draft accordingly. Just a guess but I would bet the guy who has Gates is not in favor of the change.

I know that sometimes rule changes are necessary, especially when you find a large inbalance, but I don't like it if all of the owners knew from the beginning what the scoring rules were going to be.
