Rules if the season is cut short or restructured (1 Viewer)

There's a possibility this football season can be cut short, after it begins. This can take several forms:

1. Cancelled altogether after X regular season games.

2. Regular season stopped after X games and play-offs begin with Y teams.

Many fantasy "gurus" are advising leagues put in rules to account for this happening, which makes a lot of sense. Has anyone thought through this or have seen suggestions on such rules? For example, if the regular season is cancelled after 10 games, what do you do? Do you just call the season based on some factor (overall record, total points, whatever)? What if its 7 games? 3 games? When should the results count, in terms of fantasy competition?

@Joe Bryant @Sigmund Bloom - might be worth an article or a discussion from the FBG staffers, since this could affect every one of your subscribers... thanks in advance!

Yes, we'll definitely have some content on that. Making sure everyone is clear on what they'll do before the season is key.

I posted this in the leagues I commish.

f they don't play a full season and don't give us a warning that it is happening, we have no choice but to use the power rankings for payouts.  If they play less than 7 games, the number I believe MFL would refund, then we would cancel the season and apply to 2021.  I won't go into the payout structure.  If we have warning and can fit 3 weeks of playoffs in, we will go that route.

You should have that decided before hand.  Have a league vote on how many games constitues a "season".  Although having a playoff format does complicate things (my league plays straight thru with no playoffs - best record wins).

I am also concerned about increased games missed by players.

We don't have a an IR spot, but I would like to propose having one or two COVID IR spots for guys that will miss one or two games for isolation.
