Ruling re: my lame town: is a POD a "dumpster" (1 Viewer)

Otis

So glad to be moving.

Had one of those POD temporary storage things in my driveway last week for about 5 days to prepare for a house sale and move. Some nerd neighbor took a photo of it with their iPhone (a village board member no doubt, and I'm pretty sure I know which one) and the village sent me an application for a dumpster permit and asked me to pay the 50 dollar application fee.

What says the FFA, and how would you handle?

Will answer yours.

$50 bucks, not worth the headache, pay it and move on.

Also, egg the persons house or sleep with their wife, your choice.

If you're using a pod to store stuff while you're selling your house, that means you're storing all your clutter and junk you don't want potential buyers to see. Clutter + junk = trash.

I vote dumpster.

A dumpster is for garbage. This is unreasonable.
If you do a quick Web search you see some towns require a permit for "a dumpster or a temporary storage unit." They're clearly two different things. They did a ####ty job writing their laws, not my problem. Gives them something to talk about amending at the next board meeting.

Do you need us to find you a lawyer?

I put all of our stuff in it and sent it to the warehouse. It's not trashed. There's good stuff in there, like my PIMP chalice.

Find a lawyer to write a letter to the board stating your case. It was not a dumpster you were in the process of moving

I already know where to look. Great lawyer thread here moderated by woz.

Sorry. That's what I meant. You aren't throwing these items away. You're storing them.

On your side with this one. Lawyer up.

I would check the zoning ordinance and see if there is an allowance for temporary storage units.. PODs are not dumpsters

Yes, I was agreeing with you. Just need a lawyer now.

Check your rental agreement with pods; look for sections on waste or hazardous materials.

If the agreement says no waste or haz mat, would that prove it wasn't a dumpster?

Great idea. Yes I'm pretty sure it said something like that.

The only way I would ever consider paying that would be to load $50 worth of pennies in a garbage bag and drop it off at the town hall with the citation taped to the outside.

A POD is definitely not a dumpster.

Seems like a simple thing a phone call could fix without any drama at all. But that is what the FFA is for I guess

Not sure what you mean. What phone call should I make? They've clearly told me what their position is and it's clear what they're trying to do. Should I call and argue with some village clerk about the definition of dumpster? Yeah, that seems like a worthwhile phone call.

Get homer to do it.

Just to spite them I'd call off the house sale, bring the POD back and move back in to your house. Keep ignoring future "dumpster" notices. Eventually they'll put a lien on your house and sell it at a Sheriff's auction.

You can famously fight it in court thus proving a POD is not a dumpster. You will gain lawyer-cred as the "Man of the People" and they'll make a movie about you called "Otis Brockovich." Or you'll become like the woman in Pennsylvania who recently lost her house over a $6.30 unpaid tax bill.

This could move into the Top 5 All-Time threads.

:lmao: GB cranky neighbors just looking to complain.

Its already gone? I'd toss the letter into the recycling bin and move on.

An eyesore? Who ####### cares?

I have a neighbor who has a small pile of firewood at the top of his driveway. A neighbor called the city on him and he got a citation. For a 3ftx3ft neatly stacked pile of firewood.

I can't ####### wait to get out of a tract home suburban neighborhood.

Otis, it's not a dumpster. You should write a nice letter to your former neighbor calling them a busy body and recommending if they like spying so much they should apply to work for the CIA. Make it easy on them and enclose and application in the letter for them.

This is actually good.

Pretty sure he doesn't know which neighbor did this. Although carpet bombing the entirety of his soon to be ex neighbors with a nasty letter would be a nice how do you do on the way out of town...

Why don't you just leave burning bags of dog#### on everyone's front door step?

right after you move- have the POD company deliver one to your neighbor's driveway, take a pic, and exact revenge
