"Running up the score" (1 Viewer)

wow some of you guys think way to much about this, who cares if they run it up, its pro football.

Code:
I have a whole crap pile of NE players on my fantasy teams

What I would really like to see is some team that gets down 30+ points to New England bring the house on a blitz on every play for the rest of the game. Just go ahead and let the Patriots score up top for the rest of the day...just hit Brady with 2 or 3 guys on every play. See if BB changes his tune on keeping Brady in the game and throwing the ball deep into the game.

The Patriots aren't running up the score. They are playing football. This is running up the score.

December 17, 1989 - Cincinnati Bengals head coach Sam Wyche was known as an emotional, quotable and outspoken leader. A heated rivalry developed with the head coach of the Houston Oilers, Jerry Glanville. In an extremely unusual move for an NFL coach, Wyche grossly inflated the final score on Glanville's Oilers. Up 45-0 in the final period, Wyche called for a fourth down conversion attempt (which was successful), and an onside kick (also successful). The final score was 61-7, the last three points coming after Wyche called a timeout with just seconds remaining in the game in order to kick a field goal. After the game Wyche said his only regret was that Bengal kicker Lee Johnson missed an extra point. Sam also observed that that Glanville's Oilers were the dumbest, most undiciplined team he had ever seen.
This was only part of the story - the Bengals wanted "revenge" for a 41-6 drubbing at the hands of the Oilers in 1988, which followed a 44-21 beatdown by the Bengals over the Oilers earlier in 1988. And this game was followed in 1990 by a 48-17 win by the Oilers, and then a 40-20 win by the Bengals. The Bengals began their run of ineptitude in 1991 losing twice to the Oilers by a combined 65-10. It was a vicious cycle, and yes a bit unsporstmanlike and childish on both parts. But then, no one ever accused Wacky Wyche of maturity - anyone remember him refusing to allow female reporters into the locker room?

Not a big difference from what Bellicheat is doing.
toolbag. it's much different.
Oh yeah, the other guy did it because of a rivalry. Bellicheat is only doing it because he got caugth cheating and now is acting like a teenager. And you don't need to be calling names.
he didn't cheat. even Jimmy Johnson ( former Dallas SB winning Coach) admitted he used to film opposing teams, extensively..guess he cheated too then, huh? c'mon man, I'm sure you're passionate about football, but Bellichick didn't cheat..what he did do, was continue to film,AFTER being told not to do so..Jimmy Johnson said on WFAN in NY, that the only problem he had with BB filming guys was he continued to do it after the league told everyone to stop..you can believe what you want, but even the all-time great coaches film other teams...I remember Shanahan banning access to his SB practices apparently because someone was flying helicopters around, filming them..Nascar fans can listen to their favorite team's pit crew! I don't see the big deal with watching someone else call signals..its not like Manning wouldn't change the call at the LOS anyways!come down off the ledge, man, there's plenty of beer for everyone!

Yeah, Bellichick didnt cheat. Goodell took away his draft pick just because he didn't like him.Oh hey, and if everyone is doing it, why don't we just take away everyone's first round draft pick and just start the draft with the 2nd round this year?

Uhm...your argument that he didn't cheat is that others cheated so he wasn't really cheating? Then you state he did something that was against the rules after being told to NOT do the very thing he was caught doing? That's some wacky logic. :lmao:

you really think he's doing this because he got caught video taping the defensive coordinator 7 weeks ago?!?!??? If you do then you are delusional. Dude: News flash, every coach in the NFL uses video cameras and watches plays. This has been said a million times. If you knew anything about football you would stop using the camera thing as a means to prove your silly arguments and petty jealousy.
Please turn it down. TIA.J

Maybe he took away that pick to level the playing field. :lmao: But that Niners' 1st round pick will be a nice one.

I understand Belichick has eaten more babies than all the dingos down under.

I also hear Brady traffics in human body parts taken by Seau and Bruschi from opponents at the bottom of piles.

Moss, well.....he's a witch, burn him.

Could not agree more, I guarantee that this comes back and bites BB right in the ###, someone will take out Brady during the garbage time when he is still in the game trying to score another TD, either intentionally or not. It will happen.

Bellicheat is acting like a sore loser....he got caught cheating so he wants everyone else to feel his wrath

and if anyone else didn't notice, NE has lost in the playoffs 2 years in a row....Bellicheat is not happy

See, that's more like it. You notice how 'revenge' for running up the score is doing the same thing in a different year? Not taking out someone's knee.

These examples are not any different then having your starting QB tossing bombs midway thru the 4th qtr with a 31-0 lead. If NE was running the ball to eat up the clock and scored, thats one thing. But they aren't trying to get the game over, they are trying to embarrass every team they play. BB's comments about the Washington game is all I needed to hear to be convinced that BB is intentionally running up the score. Saying he had to keep scoring because Washingtons offense could score alot of points was the biggest piece of BS uttered this year. I cant believe he said it with a straight face.

As a Steelers fan I couldn't stand Sam Wyche -- he was a classless jerk. I remember Chuck Noll getting into it with Wyche after a game and Noll was one of the most unemotional coaches you ever wanted to see.

If you are comparing Belichick to Wyche you aren't doing him any favors.

Why not do this from the start then? Just keep hitting Brady until he gets flustered and then more to a more normal D. Teams aren't stopping them now with 4-5 in the secondary. Sounds like a game plan to me, its better than what everyone else has tried so far.

He's been cheating for YEARS, if you don't believe that you're so up Belicheat's ### you can't see reality. And yes he is doing it to prove he doesn't need to cheat to win, but then why cheat in the first place? And jealousy? No. I'm pissed that the NFL just swept thing under the rug to protect its integrity, but rooting for a team that has been cheating for 6 years is nothing to be jealous about.
Speaking of sweeping things under the rug, when is the NFL going to do something about the officials on the take in the Bowl a couple of years ago.

I am sure that teams have been trying to blitz but the problem is he gets rid of the ball so quick. Still, this is the gameplan I would follow especially if I were a team like Indy or the Steelers that will likely play meet them again in the playoffs, even at the risk of taking a loss on the regular season game.

I think there's a difference. A mediocre coach drops down to the level of a bad coach because they have a personal feud, and looks like a jerk in the process. That's just lame and lamer.BB has the best team in football and he's doing that to everyone he can. To be fair, they're going for a TD record so most of it doesn't really bother me. But when you're up 38-0 in the fourth, throwing deep is poor sportmanship. That part doesn't sit right with me (not that he cares).
