Ruskell steps down as Seahawks GM (2 Viewers)

Holmgren could come back as GM while Mora remains the head coach. Mora is in the second year of a five-year contract, so he'll probably stay on for a bit. (I guess he could go back to being assistant head coach if Holmgren wants to be head coach; I'm not sure how his contract reads. But that would return things to 2008 status, which was the first year of Mora's current contract.)

Oh no. Please god no.

We can look forward to the return of the prevent offense

Clean slate required here. Not the reinstatement of the guy who caused lots of the problems with more power

3rd and 22..... FB draw

not really. Holmgren has already admitted on a number of occasions that he did it backwards when he got to Seattle - he brought in veterans on the Defensive side of the ball and young guys on the the offense. It took them awhile to develop on offense - but they were obviously on their way- Hasselback, Alexander, Hutchinson...I'm assuming that if he had to do it again he would bring veterans in on offense and young, hungry guys on Def. In addition he will be in the position of drafting the future QB of the franchise - he has proven to be pretty good at identifying good QBs.

Tend to agree that he has a great track record with QBs - but his legacy to Seattle was leaving Seneca Wallace as the starter in waiting. Not exactly pro bowl material.I just see him as a giant ego who made his living running someone else's (now slightly outdated) system

I don't see Holmgren returning to the sidelines, but Holmgren as GM and Mora continuing as HC makes a lot of sense.

You don't think his legacy was taking a 6th round pick that wasn't invited to the combines - and turning him into a pro-bowl level QB?

Lot of hate for a guy that built and coached the Seahawks into their only super bowl appearance. I'll gladly take him in Cleveland.

Hey MarcO I heard those same arguments this morning on KJR. :goodposting:

But I do agree with you. Why not bring back the man who got the hawks to a superbowl? He was GM while coaching once before and did a decent job of it. Imagine if he could focus solely on the GM aspect. He should be able to do well.

I don't necessarily think that Holmgren had a great track record with QB's...at least with the Hawks:

Trent Dilfer - overrated

Brock Huard - now a local radio host

Seneca Wallace - really good athlete, but not a good QB

David Greene - This was supposed to be Steve Young / Mark Brunell type guy. COMPLETE bust!

I know Dilfer wasn't drafted by Holmgren, but he went out and got him signed.

Granted, he made the trade for Hasselbeck and turned him into a Pro Bowler, but aside from that in Seattle he didn't have much success here.

I think Holmgren is a fantastic teacher of QB's...and that is evidenced by the MANY QB's he's coached to success over his career, but he's had very little draft success at the QB spot here in Seattle.

A vehement opposition (and good read) is Holmgren's Record as Seattle GM: http://www.fieldgulls.com/2009/11/24/11728...d-as-seattle-gm

"Look, there is very little about this overall performance (notwithstanding the 31-33 record) that inspires confidence in this man's ability to turn his team around. It's a pipe dream. A mirage. Holmgren was an awful GM who was fired for incompetence. Bringing him back is not the recipe for success the Hawks need."

??? WTF Holmgren is the best coach in Seattle history by far. All Holmgren did was win four straight div titles, a Super bowl appearance in 06 and was a Sean Alexander trip up from going to a second straight NFC conference championship game in 07. The best thing for is to let Mike run the organization and he can bring in Shanahan or Gruden to coach and we're set.

Ruskell is the f**k up. He ran Holmgren out of town and brought in his guy "Jim Mora". He botched the Hutchinson deal. He gave the Pats a first round pick when no other team would give any higher than a third for Branch. He signed Burleson to a ridiculous deal to pay back the Vikings.
