Ruth's Chris is Amateur Hour (1 Viewer)

FFA never fails - :lmao:

Ruth Chris is fine - I can't speak to pricing in other parts of the country but if I want to go to a nicer steakhouse then I have to pay 1.5-2.0 times more than what I get at RC.  And gtfo with comparing it to Longhorns or Outback.
Dude, you're in Atlanta. Ruth Chris charges the same amount as Bones. Do you think they're remotely comparable experiences?

I have my chef fly to Argentina for some really good ribeyes from hybrid steers/oxen/okapi.  Did I mention they are grass fed and smoke grass?  When he gets back, I have him turn those steaks into burgers.  Wanna know why? #### you.  That's why.   Anyway, good cheeseburgers.  Way better than Ruth's Chris.
I fly cows in from Kobe first class and have them freshly slaughtered, cut out only the best cut  and throw the rest away.

From what I understand our restaurants are definitely subpar so maybe that's the problem.  I'm happy to try a steak place that is superior for the same price but I'm not aware of any.

Also, we really shouldn't listen to you because you are the moron who compared them to Longhorns which is ridiculous. ;)
Bones, Hal's, Chops, Rathbuns, Marcel

I do the same, but rather than slaughter them, I bore them to death with stories about my fantasy football team.  The lack of trauma yields a more tender cut.

I actively avoid RC.  No interest in a steak with butter on it.

I had one of the best steaks I've ever had last night at a club I belong to.  NY Strip medium rare.  Unbelievably good.

Ruth's Chris is the P.F. Changs of the steak world. It's for jabronis, mooks and jamokes in the suburbs  who think they're getting a special, quality version of a cooking style...but in reality they're getting good marketing and flash.

My perspective is only NYC based, but Ruth's Chris isn't on the same level as most of the top steakhouses.  I haven't been to Peter Lugar's yet but that's on my list for sure.  Sparks makes a very good steak IMO.  Capital Grill is ok.  Benjamin's is overpriced and overrated.  Probably worse than Ruth's Chris IMO.  My favorite considering price and the overall meal is Churrascaria Plataforma.  I love that place, all things considered.

Ruth's Chris used to have a very affordable promotion. Salad, potato, steak, and dessert for maybe $55. Something like that anyway. I always thought it was probably the best value in the steak world. And I've been to Luger's, Del Frisco's, Keens, Strip House, Capital Grille, and a few other less well known places. But I do agree that RC is not on the same level as those places if you're paying the same price.

That's what kutta suggested but I'm not big on mutton and it was probably a once in a lifetime trip so I felt like I should do the steak.  In hindsight maybe I should have pulled the trigger.   :kicksrock:
I still have yet to order the mutton there.
huh... one my contractors took me there a couple of weeks ago. one of them had the mutton- looked amazing.

has the name of Ruth's Chris already been explained? is Chris a type of steak or preparation? or the original owner's kid?

I haven't tried Rural Society yet.  Ray's is certainly on par with, if not better than, most of the prestige steakhouses in the city proper if you don't care about atmosphere or having a fully functional bar.

I've always said that I can come close to an elite steakhouse meal.  The best I've had are a bit better than I can manage myself, but I can certainly come a lot closer to Bourbon Steak's version of a bone-in ribeye, creamed spinach, and mashed potatoes than I can to, say, Little Serow's Thai food.
Enjoyed their tomahawk ribeye and extensive bourbon list a great deal

Over four decades ago, Ruth Fertel, a divorced mother of two, mortgaged her home for $22,000 to buy a small 60-seat restaurant in New Orleans, Louisiana named Chris Steak House. Shortly thereafter, a fire forced her to change the original location and she renamed the restaurant, “Ruth’s Chris Steak House.”

I find their name confusing.
I looked it up one time, why the name is what it is.  Ruth bought the original restaurant from a guy named Chris; it was called Chris Steak House.  The way the legal agreement was written was such that she could not use the name "Chris Steak House" at any other location other than the specific location she had purchased.  At some point, the original location burned down and she went to reopen in a new location and discovered the legal hurdle, so renamed it Ruth's Chris.  Still a terrible name though.

Bobby Van's in NYC is solid, agree with the call on the Palm being the most consistent national chain.  Can't go wrong with Del Frisco's, other than the prices, but make sure it's not their casual grill concept before you go.

My friends like it, but we have a world renowned steakhouse here (Berns) and it's actually cheaper -- yet they want to go to RC for a night out. Last two times I've passed because I would just rather take my wife to bern's instead.

RC isn't awful but they don't have great steak cooks in their kitchen.
Is Bern's all that?  Wondering as I may be in Tampa for work in the coming months.  Also, whats the deal with the dessert section?  Is it amazing?

now you're just making #### up.

I'm sure it is and I will get it one day but I can never bring myself to order it over a steak. I think I'll have to now next time I go.

Nothing special about Ruth's Chris.  Not horrible...not great.  Best steakhouse in Cleveland hands down: Red, The Steakhouse.  I think they opened one in Miami Beach as well.  Several other local places I would rank ahead of Ruth's Chris on my list.

Tier 1 - Red The Steakhouse

Tier 2 - Hyde Park, XO Prime Steak, Urban Farmer, Morton's, Cleveland Chop

Tier 3 - Flemming's, Ruth's Chris, Shula's 2, Delmonico's

Tier 4 - Chop House, Texas Roadhouse, Outback, Longhorn Steakhouse

Any chains listed above are based solely on local experience and I am probably forgetting something.

I'm partial to my prime steaks being seared on my grill cast iron skillet and finished off in the oven.

I used to think Ruth's Chris was great steak, til I had great steak. Sparks and Del Frisco are my favorites in NYC, and two times I went to Craft Steak in Vegas were arguably the best meals of any kind that I ever had. Despite living in NJ my whole life I've somehow never been to Luger, but that will change soon. Hopefully that won't ruin the other places for me.

Craft Steak may have been my favorite consistent steaks (grass fed) I have ever had in NYC when it was downtown.  Nothing will ever compare to my first Luger's experience, but Craft blew me away time and again.   Luger's can be inconsistent as well.

Has anyone in NYC tried the Butchers Steak at Saint Anselm?

Yep - Cap is like me and loves Disney and goes to a lot of Disney restaurants.  Shula's is the best meal I've had on property.
A nice steakhouse and it's on a Disney property?  I can't even begin to imagine how expensive that place must be since a freaking burger and fry takeout lunch will run you $20 there.

In my experience the quality of RC and Flemings varies widely on location. Much of it comes down to how well it is ran by local management. My local RC is a waste, the Flemings is ran incredibly well. The staff is first rate and the food is on par with almost any steakhouse I've been to.

My favorite steak places are Elmos in Indy and Harrys in Cancun.

Been to Craft Steak twice... two of my least enjoyable experiences. Steak was ok but underwhelming but again, the sides were terrible. What potatoes they had were under seasoned and mushy consistency. Didn't much like the decor but thats hardly of top priority for me.

I do agree that Lugers can be a bit inconsistent, but it's still the best overall steak I've had more often than not, and I haven't had a bad meal there for a long time. I do remember a couple year span, like over 10 years ago, where it seemed more inconsistent for a while, but been pretty solid (and super awesome) since.

I used to live in Tampa a long time ago.

Bern's does stuff no other steakhouse does (they have their own farm), has the largest wine list for a single restaurant on earth (I think), and is a true experience.

I have not been there in forever, but I doubt it is any less impressive than it was 20 years ago.  Place is amazing.

I am wanting to try Urban Farmer next time I am in Ctown. Heard great things!

Ruth Chris is the biggest rip off out there.  Antiquated concept that doesn't deliver.   The quality of steak is good but they drown it in butter.  And all the sides are bush league.  Button mushrooms boiled in butter for $14?   Yeah.  No thanks.
