Ryan Fitzpatrick (1 Viewer)

Last year he threw 9 TDs in 9 starts (2 games vs the Jets), had a nice 31 yard TD run against my Phins and went 5-4. WRs caught 8 of his 9 TDs. He outperformed Trent Edwards.

This year he has 7 TD and 2 ints in 3 starts, inlcuding 1 game versus the Jets. He has made Steve Johnson, an unknown before this year, a waiver wire pickup. I'd consider him as a backup QB in my large league, but I'm worried that Brohm will get some PT later in the year. His near schedule looks difficult, but some of those teams (Balt, Cinn, and Minn) are not as good defensively as last year. His late schedule (Clev, @ Mia, NE, @NYJ) looks more favorable, especially if Miami continues to self-destruct and the NYJ aren't playing for anything. Any opinions?

I still don't like him, BUT the Bills WILL be playing from behind a lot which means he'll be throwing the ball a bunch and he's actually the 6th rated passer in the league right now.

The guy has career-backup talent, but he's smart and makes the most of his snaps. I'd start him if your regular starter is on a bye and the Bills have a favorable matchup (which isn't often).

I have Fitzpatrick on my roster. Yes, I am struggling at the QB position. As long as Vick is out and Kolb is starting, I can avoid Fitzpatrick. After that, he is starting for me. And, actually, each week I feel a little better about that. He has put up OK numbers for a scrub.

Fitzpatrick is a very smart QB who gets rid of the ball quickly and has good mobility & pocket presence, but his accuracy is well below average. He seems to have the intangibles that allow the team to play better around him. He's an ideal #2 NFL QB, as he can step in and win a game when called upon. But I don't see him ever being anything more. Buffalo knows this & won't hesitate to see what they have in Brohm.

There is no question Brohm will get some starts this year, they have to before next year's draft, the question is when. He could come in possibly as soon as Week 8, but no way he gets thrown in for Week 7 at Baltimore. I'd guess Brohm comes in around Week 10-11 & starts the rest of the year. BUT, the team doesn't want to go 0-16 & Fitzpatrick gives them the best chance at a win. So if they keep losing, Fitz could be in there a few more games to try to get that first win.

i love these kind of no-name QB on bad teams that post gaudy stats. seems like there's 1-2 every year that come from nowhere. i'd like to get on board with him (til vick gets back anyway), but the spectre of brohm kinda spoils it all.

I haven't seen Fitzpatrick this year, but last year he looked scared in the pocket and was overly prone to run on most downs (and he his fairly quick). His accuracy was atrocious and he didn't look down the field that much.

How much of that was due to not knowing the system or being rusty due to not enough practice reps, I don't know, but he didn't look like an NFL quarterback.. or even a decent backup. I wouldn't touch him without watching the tape.

Is he a better play than matt Ryan for the year at this point? Or will the snow and weather start to mess with fitz?
Whoah, let's slow down here. Ryan is a rock solid top 12-15 QB on a solid team, and is a guaranteed lock to keep the starting QB job for the season. Fitzpatrick may be compiling some nice stats in garbage time as his team keeps getting blown out, but he is none of those things I listed for Ryan.

Don't forget to remember this one nugget. Mike Martz liked him and was his coach with the Rams. He may have his faults as a offensive coord but he is one of the best QB coaches and those that listen to him and change their throwing motion have a great chance to succeed. Whether he did or not iI can't say but it might be the reason he is succeeding where other QBs in Buffalo have failed.

This Steve Johnson kid really intrigues me. Looks like a good athlete, and has a nose for the endzone. Definitely someone to keep an eye on, imho.

there's always one of these no-name, lesser-talent type guys that put up silly unexpected numbers. fitzpatrick and shaun hill this season, tyler thigpen, tim rattay, jon kitna, kelly holcomb in years past. sometimes you can't compare player to player but have to look at the situation.if ryan is your starting QB then it probably wouldn't be prudent to dump him for fitz outright. but if he's your backup or you can roster fitz and PLAY him over ryan when the matchup is good, then i don't see why not. to me the only drawback with fitzpatrick is that the first bad game he has, he has a good shot of getting yanked for brohm, only because that's what bad teams do, try the younger guy with possibly more upside if they're gonna lose anyway.
