Ryan Garko? (1 Viewer)

Can some Cleveland homers explain this situation to me? I understand they have a bit of a logjam at the 1B/DH slots, but this is getting ridiculous. He's a solid hitter, and he's being reduced to a role player.

Our definitions of solid hitter are significantly different, I think 1B/DH/OF's with 371 SLG's are not that good. When their defense is as bad as Garko's, well, you have a bench bat and little more.

I'd say 89 ABs is a little low to be quoting a SLG%. ~.800 career OPS, 1200+ MLB ABs, 28 yr old, Pronk on the DL... This is the kind of guy you feed ABs and see if he is ready to turn the corner.

His SLG from beginning 2008 to now is < 400, inadequate for the positions he (poorly) plays.

He went .319/.387/.480 over the 2nd half of 2008. He can DH every day with Pronk on the DL.We can frame numbers back and forth all day...

You asked for an explanation, that's what I gave you. He's struggling right now and it's right in line with his 08 numbers. He started four of the team's last six games and went 3/16 w/1 HR 4 K 1 BB, if he starts hitting he'll play more, if he doesn't he'll continue to start 3-4 times/week and pinch hit late in some games until they come up with a new plan.

Fair enough I guess, I just look at that line up every night and say... Why not Garko? Maybe my view of him is a little over inflated, but I like what I see out of most of his ABs.

I think you need to meditate on the bolded part. On a team that's sucks at hitting, his hitting sucks loudest outside of Delucci. MAC's pretty much nailed it.
