I'm not a Mathews owner, but I am wondering how much of a buy low candidate he is. The injury and the fact that San Diego has played from behind has really limited his stats so far (imho). Do you guys think he'll pick it up or have we seen pretty much what he has to offer?

 
I drafted him and I'm holding him. Now with the injuries to Gates and Floyd, we might see a shift toward the run game, at least I hope. Mathews has shown that he can definitely play at a high level (5.1 ypc), plus Tolbert only had 3 carries this week to Mathews' 12. The only downside is that I think we'll see Tolbert continue at the goal line.

Rivers is playing the pats, i dont care who they have available rivers will be throwing this week.

I think Tolbert's usage will change as Mathews returns to full health.At the very least I'd guess they will give Mathews a shot at SY/GL work to see if he is capable or not.If he is I have to think he will supplant Tolbert in those situations, particularly along the GL. If not, status quo will obviously continue.

I don't see him as a buy low just because I don't think you can really get him that low.

Most Matthews owners had to pay a pretty penny to get him and took him as a starter. They did so because they believe in him. So they are going to blame his modest success so far on scheme and game-planning rather than on his ability. And scheme/game-plans can change at the drop of a hat. So I think most owners are willing to hold and wait and see what happens.

And we're fooling ourselves if we don't realize that most of the Matthews owners are reading the same advice that lists him as a buy low candidate, so why wouldn't they just wait it out for the upswing or price him according to the anticipated upswing?

 
I burned a 2nd rounder on Mathews as my RB2 as I thought he had a pretty high floor and a super high ceiling. The ankle injury definitely killed his value as he was getting tons of touches before that. Tolbert has come down to earth and is looking like the inferior runner but he's still vulturing TD's which is disheartening. These 6-7 point games in non-PPR are getting tough to stomach. I'm holding for now but if someone where to offer me a low end WR2 or high end WR3 for him I'd probably move him (redraft).

As Matthews owner, don't imagine he's a buy low candidate in most leagues. Used too high of a pick on him and he still clearly has the upside of his ADP. Two more weeks of this and he's buy low, but at that point it may not be "low" but "what he's worth"

 
I'm on the opposite end. I'm seriously thinking of giving SJax for him (keeper league). But listening to you guys who own him that sounds I am being CRAZY!!

 
I drafted him to be my RB2, and I'm definitely holding on to him. I haven't needed him to date as I drafted LT in later rounds.

I believe his workload will steadily increase - even inside the 5 - as he continues to get his legs back. I kind of like the path he is on... fresh for the second half of the season.

Think about how Norv has handled Emmitt Smith and LT in the past... he believes in a workhorse back (rhythm of the game type) and also rewarding that back with the TD's (when healthy).

I think Matthews will be big down the stretch (barring anymore health issues of course).

 
My biggest concern is the number of carries. This team is playing so poorly as a group, that Mathews doesn't touch the ball nearly enough to be effective FF wise. The talent is obviously there, but this team throws a ton.

Theres a guy running in the NY governor race, his political party is called the rent is too damn high party. The you tube video is amusing, it seems this kid thought it was funny enough to spam the boards with nonsense.
 
I believe in Norv and riding one RB. He did it with Emmit, Stephen Davis, LT, Lamont Jordan and Frank Gore. All were true stud fantasy RBs under Norv. Why he would change all of a sudden is beyond me. The fact that SD is losing doing it this way is probably good news since they will try to do something else i.e. run the ball more with Mathews.

 
FWIW... I dealt S Moss for Matthews last night. The other owner actually thought less of Matthews then Felix Jones and felt SD passed too much for Matthews to be effective.

I don't disagree that there have been very good RB seasons under Norv but I believe many were when he was a coordinator and there was actually a head coach to balance out his play calls. In LT's first years under Norv there was already an existing system in place built around a stud LT with an inexperienced QB. Now that Rivers is the leader here I'm not so sure Norv will actually change things up but he needs to!

 
So according to that article Mathews should be a safe play at home going forward, and it definitely sounds like they know what they need to do: run more to create more manageable third downs, especially on the road. That article cements in my mind that he is a great buy low right now.
