Ryan Williams Out For The Year (1 Viewer)

For those of you wondering if it was safe to drop him in re-draft leagues, it is. Cards just announced Williams is done for the year.

Wow glad I dropped him now for a flier on Best. Is Powell next in line or Howling? Or does it even matter with that dismal OL?

I don't think it matters. I think Wells and Williams are both talented RBs but they were both pathetic this season. Something crazy could happen obviously but I would be surprised if anyone did well behind that offensive line. Then again, they do play the Bills next week so if something crazy's going to happen that's a pretty good time for it to occur.

RB Ryan Williams needs surgery on his shoulder and is out for the season, Whiz said.

Ryan Williams will require surgery on his left shoulder and is done for the remainder of the season. It's a rough blow for increasingly one of the league's most tough-luck players. Williams suffered the injury in last Thursday night's loss to the Rams. William Powell figures to be the favorite for carries in Arizona's backfield until Beanie Wells (turf toe) gets back in Week 12 or 13, although Powell is coming off a "head" injury. La'Rod Stephens-Howling and Alfonso Smith will also be in the mix for carries behind an offensive line that opens no holes. Williams will enter the 2013 season having not been a legitimately productive rusher since 2009, his redshirt freshman season at Virginia Tech. After also missing all of 2011 with a ruptured patellar tendon, Williams' long-term outlook is all sorts of cloudy.

And how long is Wells out?
It is not believed that Beanie Wells (toe) will need surgery.Wells' injury is being described as "severe turf toe." It's essentially a sprain or tear of the ligaments around the big toe, causing an inability to push off from the joint. "With the type of injury [Wells] has, we anticipate six to eight weeks at least before he'll be ready to go," coach Ken Whisenhunt said. "So if you look at where we still have games left, it will be good to have him back at that point." Sep 27 - 8:31 AM

This was reported two weeks ago, so it would be estimated to be another four to six weeks.

IF health is a skill - and we should consider it so, Williams is one of the several who obviously don't have it.

Sorry he didn't get the chance it looked like he would have this year

Alfonso Smith?
:goodposting: I could see a Steve Slaton signing here as well.
Well, as long as we are tossing out signing replacements: Free JSTEW. Send JSTEW and an o-lineman to Cards for Roberts or Floyd!Seriously though, it doesn't matter. Nothing short of a truly "really good" back coming into the dessert changes anything in their running game and even then, I'm not sure they could compensate for the line. So, Kevin Smith, A New England RB, JSTEW, Tate, etc, etc...doesn't matter.BTW, IF there is a RB on a team right now to be traded to the Cards, it would probably be a guy like Moreno (some guy that seems dead in the eyes of his current team tha tthe cards would actually say "maybe a change of scenery does him good").

Just a bit longer than that, actually.....Cardinals assigned RB Beanie Wells (turf toe) the "designated for return" tag on injured reserve.

Alfonso Smith has been signed to take his roster spot. It's a crushing blow for Wells' owners, as he can't resume practicing for six weeks, and won't be eligible to return until Week 12 against the Rams.

Stephens-Howling is intriguing, although I expect William Powell, if he gets cleared soon, to be the front runner for the starting job until Wells returns.

Stephens-Howling getting all the reps today.
He's the only one I'd be interested in mainly because he might be the only RB they won't be afraid to throw the ball to. So he could get some cheap production in PPR leagues.
AgreedETA: we aren't the only ones who know they can't run. The team knows it, the coaches know it. They will continue to throw40-50 times a game, and before they had to represent the run so LSH wasn't in much. If he came in, they watched him for the dump off. With him in full time, there will be times he gets the ball now because the back field won't change. The little dude is quick too!

I'm probably alone in this since I'm rebuilding, but I'm actually relieved since it means he's not going to re-injure his knee. This season was a loss fantasy-wise and I'd rather have him back two years removed from his injury with hopefully a better OL.

A rare case where a trade actually makes some sense. The Cardinals are a playoff contender and there are lots of backs out there who could instantly upgrade their pathetic RB situation.

The Saints have a loaded backfield and could probably do without Ingram, Ivory, or Thomas.

Philadelphia could part with Brown, Lewis, or Polk.

Bolden might be available from New England.

Moreno would be an upgrade from Denver.

And if they really want to go big, maybe they could strike up a deal for DeAngelo Williams.

The Saints aren't parting with Thomas. He's way too valuable. I doubt they would part with Ingram only a year removed from trading up to draft him.

Ivory makes the most sense. He has no role with the Saints, would be an upgrade for the Cardinals and should come cheap.

OK so right now LSH is getting first carry reps in practice.

Assuming this will be a RBBC until Wells returns, what could you expect out of LSH in PPR weekly?

Worth a flex?

Just trying to gauge how much value these guys have.

Interesting note about Stephens-Howling via Arizona Republic and RotoWorld. Given this news, I'm bowing out of the Arizona backfield. I'm not pursuing any of their RBs now. Good luck to all of you who want to dive into these waters.

According to the Arizona Republic, the Cardinals' coaching staff does not believe La'Rod Stephens-Howling is capable of holding up on 15 carries a game.

Stephens-Howling is expected to be the Cardinals' "starter" until Beanie Wells (turf toe) gets back after midseason, but he'll be far from a workhorse. He's 5'7/185, and coaches believe he "tends to wear down" over the course of seasons, even in a change-of-pace and kick return role. Beat writer Kent Somers believes the Cards "will have to add a back," naming Joseph Addai, Tim Hightower, Steve Slaton, and Cadillac Williams as possibilities.

Ouch. No confidence in Powell. Not looking good.

Doubt the Saints would part with Ingram or Thomas right now. Ivory makes sense. Philly is very high on Brown, Lewis and Polk are not worth trading for. Not sure why in the world NE would trade Bolden right now. Moreno makes sense. Doubt the Cardinals would take on D-Will's salary.
