I looked but I didn't see it so here goes.

Dude is on day 12 of sailing from OR to HI after liquidating his 401k once he learned he had a really bad unfixable neck injury, quit his job, said "I'm sailing around the world with my cat" bought a sailboat, fixed it up, literally got a total of 75 nautical miles experience before embarking on this Pacific Crossing. He's posting daily stories and updates on TikTok via the Starlink internet, which is insane. He did an interview with Anderson Cooper this week. Pretty cool story, its opening a bunch of conversations up about life, the rat race, chasing dreams etc.

He's got over 1m followers now and i'm sure a pretty large party of people planning to meet him once he lands in Hawaii, which should be some time early next week.

no i am not but good on that brohan i do not do tik tok so no way to watch but i wish him well and i wish you well in your adventures watching him take that to the bank brochacho

I'm not as adventurous as this guy, but I've been feeling similar things for a few years now. My retirement plan is to jump in a car and just drive around the country for a few months. Pretty sure my wife is willing to join me. No set agenda. Just hit the road and go wherever we want.

I did exactly that after graduating college, almost 3 months- truly amazing experience that everybody should try to do to see this beautiful country of ours and get out of their own myopic lives.

and this is a really cool story- thanks for sharing it here (I hadn't heard anything about it).

of course, i hope nothing goes wrong out there... but he's banked those 70 miles training, so what could got wrong that he can't handle. (I would bet there are a lot of people following to see him fail, sadly... and failing could be lethal. sadder for the cat in that instance, tbh.)

Good for him. I anticipate that I'd do something similar* if I were in that situation and didn't have a wife and kids to financially worry about.

*I'd cash everything out and go play the world's best golf courses.

Been watching the videos he posts on social media and every time all I can wonder is that I hope his cat hasn't gone overboard.

These always start out super cool and everyone gets behind them then Mother Nature reminds us why she always wins and something bad happens.

Hoping he makes it and it all works out.
Spalding Greys movie, Swimming to Cambodia includes a quotation from somebody he worked with... "The Sea is a *****- you can play IN her, but never play WITH her."

There are quite a few channels like this on Youtube. SV Delos was the original. No chronic neck injury but he sold everything and started sailing around the world. Started a Youtube channel to maybe help fund it, it worked out, and 16 years later still at it but now married with a kid on the boat.

Same, but my journey was 45 days. I think we may have already commented on each others' stories. It was an amazing time, probably some of the best consecutive weeks of my life.

Is the neck issue something terminal? Just trying to figure out how that plays into this. Or something that he suffers with so if things go wrong he doesn't mind if things end or something?

Yeah... We discussed pretty recently, iirc.

My dad was a sailor, and we'd do sailing vacations during my childhood- head somewhere nice and rent a little sailboat instead of a car and tool around for a week or two. Absolute highlights of my young life... Bums me out I can't afford to or have enough skills to do it for my family. My wife would hate it though... She's likes to be comfortable, and little sailboats are anything but.

His story is more about being sick of the rat race. He worked at discount tire for 11 years. Cashed everything out, bought the boat,
Learned to sail. Made some modifications on the boat. Launched for HI 2 weeks ago. He doesn’t mention the neck at all

Oh. I thought this guy was likely dying soon or something.

I retract my prior statement.
