Saints / Pats Monumental MNF Faceoff Thread? (2 Viewers)

You kind of have to expect it here I guess but it still bothers me that...

A) some people take every opportunity to take a swing at the Pats or Bill Belichick even after they've down and out jusy having been thumped by a much better team.

B) fellow Pats fans not realizing that now is the time to shut up.

Great game by New Orleans that as of now are miles ahead of us. You can't give Sean Payton and Gregg Williams enough credit. Our defense is nowhere near championship quality as was exposed today. At times (vs Colts) our offense can keep us in games but today we were truly exposed.

I'm just hoping for a quick turnaround on defense over the coming years and a few more years of Brady, Moss and Welker.

Wow, what quitters. Admittedly down 21 is bleak, but there was 4 minutes left. You really pull Brady and a team able to score quickly with 4 minutes to go?
Would have needed to score three times and recover 3 onside kicks. The benching will do more for this team the rest of the year.
This isn't the same team that all the people were saying would convert that tough 4th and 2, 70% of the time? Now they can't score at all against a team missing their top 2 corners. Wow, color me confused. I might understand this if it were the Raiders. But for the Patriots to quit with 5+ minutes left is really sad. Instead of looking at it as needing to score 3 TDs, most good teams just try and score the first one quickly.
If it helps, The Ref also likes what he sees in the New England secondary.
Long term, I do. Lots of great passes by Brees tonight. I don't think that this is that outlandish a statement.

Thank goodness the Falcons secondary is so complete that we didn't need to bring in those washed up veterans. I've sort of enjoyed this game, but watching this patchwork secondary outperform my team's secondary by a LARGE margin makes me pretty queasy.
See Ya in 2 weeks!! :own3d:

I think Bill B just kissed and hugged Drew Brees... :goodposting:
That was pretty crazy for his reputation and for him to not only wait on Brees but to be that...intimate?...on camera. Woh.
Cleary Drew didn't know what he was getting into there. That was "Don Belly-chick's" death mark. Hopefully Drew had an escort to his car tonight. That was quite the a@#$ whoopin'. It really couldn't have happened to a nicer group of gentlemen.

i'm loving the fans cheering bleeding into the BB presser...
What? Those were chicks screaming for Belichick. It's like the Beatles wherever that guy goes.Steve Young just said "The Saints look like the Patriots of five years ago." As a Patriots fan, that truth just really hurt.

I don't think i've ever seen a coach just give up like Bellicheck tonight down 3 scores with over 5 minutes left. That's just pathetic. he is the whiniest sore losing bi.tch in the history of sports. What an insufferable dink....why pull Brady with so much time left?
While I agree that it may have been a bit early, I find it much more difficult to understand why coaches continually leave all their guys in with zero chance of winning the game. How many times have you seen guys(like Boldin for example) get hurt in what amounts to garbage time?
Payton is more of a dips*** for keeping Brees in there. Bell "got dinged up" late...what if Brees got his knee taken out or something? Seriously...Payton is more of a fool than Belichick for not pulling his starters.
:goodposting: Watch many Patriot games?

I fully understand given that Brady gave up just before halftime. Looked like he didn't even care or think they had a shot. I think he should have been pulled then. As soon as he didn't get the calls he thought he should from the refs.
you know...a couple of weeks ago watching them at the end of the game my buddy made the same observation. it's not just that he doesn't smile or look mad or whatever...it's just that he really looks like he doesn't give a #### and wished he was someplace else even during a win. Seems to have lost whatever he had that made him such a leader on the field...he's turned into the prima donna that stands aloofly by himself without even watching the game or talking to teammates. bizarre.

can someone please give Brees a real haircut so he looks less like a community college history teacher and more like a football player? the part on the side is just bad :lmao:

Not one of the talking heads would bring up the fact that Brady played poorly, making bad decisions and bad throws.

And man does Steve Young bug.

Dolphins sign Culpepper and Brees goes to NO. Think Miami would like another shot at that decision?
I wanted Miami to draft Brees...and it didn't happen. Then when he became available once more...I was giddy...until they chose to sign CPep...ugh.

I just can't agree with this. Part of the Patriot's mystique was the 3 titles in 4 years. Until the Saints (or Vikings for that matter) do that, none of them will have the Patriot's mystique.

Good game by the Saints. Congratulations to Belichick for getting legal game film of a possible Superbowl opponent's best plays. I didn't even think about how Monday night football has more cameras than any other game, but it makes perfect sense. We even know how they'll defend Hoyer now. Suckers.
I especially have to applaud BB for knowing the math late in the 4th quarter. Not many other coaches would've realized the higher percentage play would be to sit your star QB for a backup when down 21 points with 5 minutes remaining and 2 timeouts.BB=GeniusIt doesn't matter that it didn't work out for him...he still showed guts in making that call. There just aren't that many coaches out there with the moxy to pull off a stunt like that...that's job security folks.

I think it was kind of a shame and fairly insulting how an undefeated team plays the pats and everybody says it's some kind of measuring stick for the undefeated team.

I don't see how the saints need to do anything to 'earn respect', or whatever, right now --- give them a little credit.

So now BB knows that his defense (specifically the pass D) doesn't belong on the same field as the Saints offense. Hope that information does them well.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the comments here.

What a game.

Believe.

BELIEVE.

It's happening, it's finally happening.

When Ellis fumbled that ball with the Saints having the chance to put it away it seemed like a classic Saints flop moment, especially when the Pats drove down for a TD right after. But then the Saints did something most un-Saintslike; they surged back and pulled away.

This was huge for the team and the City; big confidence, feels like "arrived."

The Pats never stopped running the ball and going at Aiken, who I think was covered by Chris McAllister in his first game with the Saints and first in a long time period. Really a puzzling gameplan; I think Belichick outthunk himself.

But the Saints defense is fantastic. - Mike McKenzie? The guy was out of football and he just shows up. McAllister too.

Darnell Dinkins gets a TD?

And the home field advantage is big, big, big.

Here's an article on the crowd noise tonight: 119 decibels.

http://www.nola.com/saints/index.ssf/2009/...ans_send_d.html

The crowd flowed out, a brass band was playing "When the Saints Go Marching In" in Girod Street; truly amazing. Something's been exorcised from that old cemetery (yes the Dome partly sits on an old cemetery). People flowed into the French Quarter, Bourbon looked like Mardi Gras time.

This is different, this is special.

Here's what's left:

@WAS

@ATL

DAL (in what will be another raucous game on the Saturday night before Christmas)

TB

@CAR

I dare not say it, I dare not, but it's there, it's possible.

It's not a seasonal measuring stick, but a state of the franchise measuring stick. Steve Young was spot on how most Saints fans feel about this game in his pregame comments. Up until this point there were questions on the Saints being a fluke because their defense has not played a high quality QB. Tonight the franchise took a huge leap forward in the national spotlight.

it was a statement game for sure. you know what irked me over the last week or so? the chatter about how weak the saints were defensively. indianapolis has had to engineer five 4th quarter victories this season. they're not getting second-guessed like NO was going into this game. well, NO took control early last night and never let it go. no comeback was necessary. they're very much for real.

I am in shock at the capability of Chris McAlister and Mike Mckenzie after being on the team for 1 week to go against Brady, Moss and Welker. What an unbelieveable transformation from the secondary from last year. Thank you Payton for coming out of your own pockett to sure up Greg Williams (Brought in Greer and Sharper)

Congrats to the Saints fans...there's no question the better team (by far) won.

As far as the Pats chatter goes it's too funny...both sides can sound like Junior High girls going at it. The bottomline is right now Bill Belichick the Head of Football Operations is hanging out BB the Head Coach . The Pats are a good team but they have huge holes and they have been heading in this direction for a few years. Their pass rush is non-existent and overall the D has absolutely no identity and is very limited in the playmaking department. On offense they are a team that is committed to the pass but outside of Moss and Welker there's not much there that defenses have to worry about. Sure Faulk will get his but his value is as a high-end role player. Whether it's been bad signings (Thomas, Galloway, Springs, Hobson etc.), bad trades (Burgess, Lewis, Gabriel, etc) or some very bad drafts the Pats just don't have the horses to beat teams with a big time QB and at least a good defense. Right now they are too reliant on too few players to make big plays...they need to add some players on both sides of the ball that are playmakers. Until they do they will stay a good team that can beat anyone but more often than not will come up short against the iron of the NFL.

I can't tell you how much it pained me to hear him wax poetic about his emotion for the Saints franchise. This is a guy that repeatedly destroyed us. But he was definitely the only talking head that really understood what was going on.

Steve's respect for the Saints goes back to the Dome Patrol days. He knew that if the Saints could put a passable offense on the field, they would have been very tough to handle back then. As it was, they were pretty tough to handle. Now we've got the complete package and I can't believe it's finally happening.

You ought to check out Young's comments on ESPN after the game.He talks about how the Saints had always folded in big games like this, and though he didn't say it I am sure he was thinking of all those Mora's Saints vs 49`er tilts that Young was a part of. Very good to great teams that failed to seal the deal.

No more.

Saints have a *real* good shot at running the table, finishing the job that the 2007 Pats failed to do. They have so many receiving weapons, can protect Brees up the middle (always giving him a pocket) and they have a good running game to keep the D honest. Pair that offense with a defense that can rush the passer and it puts opponents in an awful position if they need to play catchup.

Writing that first sentence kills me, but it's true.

I think Steve may realize that if this version of the Saints team were back in the old NFC West there might be a few less Lombardi's on the 49ers shelf.

Gonna rush out and have a few of those made and sling em at work. Thanks!
 PM me for the artwork file if you want it. Plenty to go around I'm sure.

Will be bringing a few hundred down to sling before the Cowboys game in a couple weeks.
Nah, not gonna jack anybody else's idea. Would hate to have somebody do it me, as I have some shirts that I'm looking to get made this week. Been wanting to capitalize on Breesus but never could really find somebody who was handy enough with Photoshop and such. Are you getting them made locally, or online? I plan on going to this one place here in NO tomorrow and forking over a buncha cash to get the ball rolling.
