It will be available through AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular and a few other regional carriers so I figured we could have one thread. I think AT&T and Sprint will launch this week with the others in early July.

My link - The first review I've seen of the North American model. Not much different than any other review, but it does have some benchmarks at the end.

Doesn't seem to have a single advantage over the One X.

Same chip, size, weight.

One X has better camera and Samsung seems to load a bunch of its own stuff on top of the OS.

Samsung is killing HTC in the marketing... But I'm leaning One X atm. Will be buying one or the other this month.

 
Not that it is a worse camera... Poor wording.

Better features with the camera... Longer burst shot, film in slow motion, etc.

With the One X.

I'm not bashing either and haven't made up my mind.

 
Everything I've read says the GS3 and OneX are so close and they slightly outdo each other in certain aspects, that it will really come down to preference :shrug:

 
To add.. my biggest gripe is that the comparison is theoretical because I can hold and play with the One X, can't with S3 yet. I'm waiting for this.

 
Doesn't the One X have some bug when when you are multitasking between various apps that use online data (say webpage, video streaming, music streaming) that each time you go back to a webpage or the cached media it has to re-load the data? Apparently this can cause people to use up their limits on data plans quickly. I'm not the most phone tech savvy guy, so I may be describing it wrong, but example is

 
most annoying part of the S3 is that while you can preorder, they won't tell you when you are going to get it.

I was under the impression that AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile are launching in stores on the 21st so preorders would be shipped and in hand by then. The Verizon launch is 7/10 and US Cellular has not given a firm date other than to say "This device is scheduled to ship approximately 4-6 weeks from pre-sale start date (June 12, 2012)"

I think you'll be fine, GB. Unless you really need 4G, bigger screen, better processor and a bunch of other improvements. I don't picture you as the "need the latest and greatest" type.

You know me pretty well, GB. Plus the S2 already has 4G and I'm not sure how to use many of the cool things I'm sure it does.

only if you need 4G LTE. dual core in the S2 runs everything the s3 does. you'll need to root to get some of the new OS features though

I still have my Samsung Fascinate and no reason to worry about what mine won't do. It's been flawless. I'll get the S3 over the summer but I don't get the rush to get the latest greatest. I have ICS on my Transformer Prime and the wife and kids all have Galaxy Tabs. I can do just about anything I need on this phone.

That said, no way I buy an HTC anything over Samsung.

I bought the One X after owning the Samsung Captivate (S1?) previously. One of the reasons I did that is that Samsung has been really slow about software updates, at least for my last phone, plus drivers were a pain to come by. I also found the One X for $119 at Amazon Wireless during the week or so that AT&T's shipment was held up in customs, I'll bet Amazon Wireless made out like bandits during that brief window. It is a great phone, although my Captivate was definitely getting a bit old.

I did have that "bug" originally, but the latest software update (which should already be applied on any new phone) seems to have fixed it. My personal opinion is that it wasn't really a bug, but more of a hyper-optimization by HTC to try to conserve battery life that went too far. But I wouldn't worry about that issue due to the latest patch and rumors that there is another patch coming shortly to fix up a few other minor issues, and to further address that one (lots of speculation with little actually confirmed yet.)Only real problem I have with it is that with the latest update I can't get root, but I hadn't rooted it yet anyways (I could have on the original ROM) cause I really haven't had any real need for root access yet. I was a bit disappointed about both the non-removable battery (but the battery life has been absolutely phenomenal) and no MicroSD expansion slot (I got in on the Dropbox promo though.) That is a bummer for people getting either phone now, it looks like both Verizon and AT&T have opt-ed out of the Dropbox promo that got me an extra 20+ GB of Dropbox space for 2 years.

 
I'm going to get the S3 but not when it's for $189 currently on preorder for AT&T. I'll wait until Amazon has it for $99. I just got the S2. not too long ago so there really is no rush for me.

I've read speculation (on some Android messageboards so take this with a huge boulder of salt) that they opted out of the Dropbox promo because they are developing their own cloud storage for their customer base.
 
Went to my local at&t store yesterday...they dont know when theyll have it in stock, they havent been given a date. all they know is they're taking pre orders. WTH

My wife and I get our Sprint S3's tomorrow evening. I'm not a super tech guy, but I'll check in tomorrow night or Wednesday. We played with one in the store on Sunday. Thin, big screen, smooth operation, but I need to get my own to see how much it can be tailored to what I want.

 
Pre-ordered and had mine two days after knee surgery. It's been great thus far. Ice Cream Sandwich is a quantum leap from the Gingerbread my Hero was running.

Couple things I really dig.

The screen recognizes that I am still reading and automatically refreshes itself. Saves having to touch the screen every few seconds to keep it fully lit.

Chrome is huge. Setting up bookmarks on a phone sucks, imo. With Chrome they are already imported and I can add them from my desktop/laptop. Tabs are smooth and integration with docs is seamless.

Double clicking home button brings up all your running apps, can remove all or "grab" one to kill individual running apps, saves battery life

Video chat through Gtalk is pretty f'in cool too.

I'm curious about Chrome. Have you used Dolphin? What about Firefox? My Desire is running stock browser because any other browser is a resource hog. But I liked Dolphin while I used it for a while. Firefox was hit and miss.I went to a Sprint store today, just to play with one for 10 minutes and was impressed with the fluidity. Were you a Samsung user before? If so, how has Touchwiz improved and if you weren't how is it better/worse than HTC Sense etc?SignedPatiently waiting :popcorn:
 
Chrome rules. If you use Chrome on you personal computer it really makes it easy to sync up. For instance, I have 8 tabs open on my laptop, if I need to ride out or take the bus I can pick them up on GS3 in two steps from the phone. Bookmarks show on either device, "mobile folder". Because all info is stored remotely everything is always there.

 
Kies Air is pretty cool as well. Connects to your browser to pull files from the phone wirelessly. Shows contacts, call log, photos, Messages...ect.

No, only the Nexus 7 tablet has Jelly Bean.I saw some people who preordered on Verizon are starting to get their phones. I on the other hand am still waiting.

I wouldn't worry about Jelly Bean. There will be a massive developer community for the Galaxy S3, given how popular it already is globally. You'll easily find a great custom ROM with Jelly Bean in a few months. There are already ones out there today but they are in pretty much unusable developmental phase. People shouldn't be afraid to root and install custom ROM's on their phones. It is really easy to do as long as you follow the instructions. And Samsung, as well as Google, seems pretty supportive of the developer community. Even if you hard brick your phone, you can easily JTAG it for under $100. That imo is the worst cast scenario.

I'm holding out for the Ablation Q that's supposed to come out in September. They say it's going to come with the new Astro Pop OS.ETA: Astro Pops. For those of you who aren't, you know, old.

Astro Pop is going to come with an Individual Recognition System (IRS) that will sense when another person has entered the room and automatically close your browser for you. Ridiculously advanced technology. It's expected to reduce the national divorce rate by 10%.
 
Just checked one out in person. That screen is huge. Its a nice phone but there seems to be the slightest lag compared to my S2 on certain actions. When swiping between screens, opening the camera, etc theres a slight pause before the action.

Nothing a software update cant fix I suppose. I'm gonna revisit in a few weeks and will most likely pull the trigger. Its a sexy phone for sure.
