Had the phone a week now...

At the very top left, I have a bunch of symbols. What the hell are these? LOL

One looks like a home plate with a plus sign in the middle, four check marks, and two things that look like brief cases with right pointing arrows inside.

I try to click on them and nothing happens.

Notifications...pull down from there and they will tell you.Likely updates to preloaded apps or any apps you have installed that have either updated or have an update available.

I have had troubles with the S2 in terms of terrible battery life when it updated to ICS, I believe (we are talking 12+ hrs down to 2-6), and now my usb connection is faulty. Trying to decide between S3, Note 2 and the HTC LTE. Thoughts?

The Note 2 is really sweet.

Those are just notifications about apps. Pull down on the notification bar and it should show you what they are.The one with the plus sign just means there are more notifications than will fit in the spaceI think the check mark means that an app needs an update and the briefcase means an app has been downloaded or updated but if you pull the bar down it will tell you.

Thanks both of you.... I was clicking and swiping lol.

I've had the note 2 for 2 mths...if you don't have an issue with the size, I don't see why you would choose any other phone out there right now. Fantasic media device, great battery life, great screen, extremely powerful phone, and the S-pen is a nice bonus. Some out there are bothered by holding such a big device to your head. I just use my headphones when out and about.

Anyone use Spotify on their S3?My shuffle option doesnt seem to work, and on the Spotify boards, no one seems to have a fix.Kinda annoying listening to the same songs in the same sequence.Feels like high school when I would make a mix tape.

I have a problem. I turned off my phone last night, and when I turned it on this morning, just about all the Apps were gone. The home screens were blank. And there is an indication in the lower left corner that says "Safe mode."When I lookup the application manager, however, it lists the apps there. So strange. Help!! Anyone else have this happen?

You should be able to just reboot it and be fine. I had that happen a while back and it turns out you boot into safe mode if you hit one of the bottom buttons when the Samsung logo comes on during power up.Edit by "reboot" you might have to fully power down, wait a minute and then power back on. It was a while ago, sorry.

what's the risk of viruses with these phones? Do I really have to worry about what apps I download, or where I surf ( ) or am I pretty safe with this thing?

Anyone use "TASKER" for their rooted phone? It is pretty freaking amazing you can set up your phone anyway you like. Short cuts like putting it face down will turn it off. Plug in headphones and the music starts playing automatically. \Also, have changed the theme to TSF Shell. Pretty cool how you can really customize the screen to your own individual liking.Anyone have any game recommendations? I have been playing NFS Most Wanted and it is amazing with this phone. Graphics are unbelievable. TIA

Ended up getting the S3, couldn't justify the extra $100 for the Note 2. Loving it so far. I went from 2-6 hours of battery life to I'm not even sure because it is still going from yesterday at 5am when I took it off and it says I still have 26% and another 9+hours. :excited:

Wow, different performance than I am getting. Maybe I am using it too much because it is my new toy, but mine is always dead before the end of the day. Fully charged this morning, and all I have done so far is checked email a couple of times, and listened to Pandora for 30 minutes. I'm down to 77%.

What carrier? With the US Cellular update we got some bloatware app called WiFi Now that turned out to be useless (as all bloatware) and a resource hog. By disabling it most people are back to good battery life. I've also read that some apps looking for location services can be a factor.

click SETTINGS, then BATTERY and see what's draining your battery.phone turned on at 7am, it's 8pm now and Im at 49% left... heavy usage,... lots of txt, email, FB, Twitter...note: if youre on 4g or LTE it REALLY drains your battery quick. use wifi when possible and edge/3g when you dont need the speed

How does one find out about games/apps going on sale? I have seen apps that are on sale for 50 percent off, and I didn't really want to check google play each day.

Almost bricked the damn thing flashing a different ROM than the version I normally use. I think it's called a 'dirty flash' or something. Did the flash via Goomanager which has been solid with the Jelly Beans ROM. Goomanager didn't flash the different ROM correctly. Booted into recovery and thankfully had a ROM on the external card to flash. Flashed the other ROM via TWRP. Anybody who dares to flash ROMs should have TWRP for recovery. Easy as cake.

Anybody have Multi Window on their phone? The Synergy ROM is use now has it. It's pretty bad###. Almost like a OS X/Avant Window dock on your phone. I dunno if it came with the stock Verizon update.

I think it is just Notes that have that feature without rooting, I'm not aware of it on my S3. Looks awesome though.

Has anyone used the Tectiles yet? My mom had gotten me an Amazon gift card for Christmas so I was putzing around, looking for some stuff I wouldn't normally spend money on. I got a 5 pack for $13 (I think they're normally $15). They should be here tomorrow and was just wondering if anyone has played with them and if there are any fun uses other than toggling certain functions. Will they work for both mine and my wife's phone?

I have one setup at work to check in. Used it for a while but rarely do anymore. Haven't found any particularly killer features for them yet.

So I see there are several Nintendo emulators in the app store. If I were to download one of those, where does one go to find the ROMs for his theoretical game library to use with the emulator?

My linkI use this link for the Super Mario ROMS with SNES lite. They work great.

Just for those who are curious: The Jelly Bean update has now made the Service Mode menu to be enabled. I use the Service Mode to toggle Wifi Power Save. Here is the code, which you need to enter with the stock dialer: Enable Service Mode: *#22745927 - You can toggle enable or disable there. Service Mode: *#0011# - Use menu key for options. To turn off the Wifi Power Save, just tap Wifi, and find the on/off toggle. Having it on really slows down and/or causes the wifi to dropout. BTW, every time you do a reboot, you need to toggle the Wifi Power Save. It's a stupid default that at least should have the option to switch in the power save menu in the 'regular' power save settings. I just toggle Wifi off when I'm away from a trusted network anyway, as well as the other regular options such as wake.

I can get out of my current Sprint contract for ~200 bucks and sign up for a new Sprint contract and get the Galaxy S III for a penny. Currently have a Motorola Photon that's seen better days.Worth making the switch?

Normally I would suggest simply leaving sprint all together. Short of that, the photon needs to go. Get the s3.

Is there a thread elsewhere discussing the various phone plans? I've relocated and have to pick one. I'm 90% sure I'll go with Sprint or TMobile because best I can tell I'd be paying an extra $30 per month for AT&T or Verizon ($30 for texting AT&T, really?!!). Also detest the way data plans are structured - maybe I only need 2GB today (this month), but who knows what I'll need/want a year down the road. Also, they're designed to make me buy more than I need (I assume data overages are very expensive).

Straight talk is the right answer assuming you don't mind paying to get rid of sprint.
Actually I don't have to pay anything to get rid of Sprint (or any other carrier). My current carrier, CSPIRE, allows me to walk away gracefully with no early termination cost even though I'm only 8 months into a 2 year agreement, so long as I provide proof that I relocated out of their coverage area (MS, and Memphis too I think).Who is the actual carrier for StraightTalk? I'll go do some research, but if you don't mind helping dumbing down this complex business for me, if I go with Straight Talk, do I have to pay full price for the device (and I'm eyeing the Note 2)? Also, just to keep the hijack going, any thoughts on using email clients on Note 2 to work with MS Exchange? Somewhere in my furious surfing these past few weeks I thought I read that email functionality on a Droid is not pretty at all when working with Exchange.

No Idea what the note costs new. If I were starting from scratch I'd buy a nexus 4 ($250 new) and get straight talk for $50 a month. Hell, I have an iPhone 5 and a 20% discount on at t and I'm still tempted.

It was sweet playing Hill Climb racing while watching Django Unchained at the same time on my way back from Colorado. I heavily used my Note 2 yesterday and it still had 19% battery when I got back to Tampa.

Nexus 4 on Straight Talk is a good idea, but where do you get a Nexus 4 without contract for $250?May go with the S3 anyway. Love the phone and my Photon has been very sluggish of late. Plus, might not be a bad idea to get out of it while I can still get more than a cup of coffee for it when I sell it.Nexus 4 + StraightTalk seems like a really, really good idea if I can get one for $250 unlocked.Note is a nice option, but a little pricey when you consider I also have to eat the rest of my Sprint contract.

$299/$349. Still pretty tasty when you consider Straight Talk would cut my monthly bill in half.I'll look this up tonight, but I may pounce on this. Savings over the long run would be huge.

Apparently, Straight Talk has horrid customer service and you're kind of neutered on the web browsing that you can do.Think I'll do the 1 cent Galaxy SIII deal, even though it's through Sprint. It's on Amazon Wireless, BTW.

Giving some thought to switching myself. I pay $210 a month for two iPhones (one with 2g and one with 4g and tethering. And that is with a 20% discount. Straight talk doesn't have Lte but it would be half the price.

Decided I'm going to go for a Galaxy SIII on ebay and just ride out my current contract. When my contract ends in December, the next OMG BIG THING will be out, and hopefully my SIII will still have good resell value. Yeah, I'm looking at ~$350, but I'm not locked into a big two year contract and, when my contract is up, I can xfer my Galaxy over to Ting if I don't get reeled in by the next cool phone.

That's the way to go. I've bought my last few phones off contract. I'm thinking about picking up an S3 on eBay and selling my S2 for a couple hundred bucks.
