San Francisco 49ers 2013 thread (SEE NEW 2014 THREAD) (2 Viewers)

Just curious on Carradine / Lattimore... sounds like Carradine will be able to play situationally this season. Lattimore might spend 2013 on the IR.

So what happens in Lattimore's case? Does he get a salary?

Duron Carter will get an opportunity with his father's Minnesota Vikings, so it only makes sense that the undrafted son of Football Hall of Famer Joe Montana is bound for the San Francisco 49ers.

Matt Barrows of The Sacramento Bee reported Sunday that the 49ers have invited Nate Montana to attend their upcoming rookie minicamp, according to the quarterback's agent. Montana, 23, put forth a positive showing at the team's local pro day earlier this month.

Like Duron, the pass-catching son of receiver Cris Carter, Nate is a stretch to make an NFL roster.

"It's going to be hard for him to transition to the next level," NFL.com's Bucky Brooks told Around the League before the draft. "His passes don't have zip. He has difficulty making pro throws."

Montana's wandering four-stop college experience saw him flame out at Notre Dame before landing with Division II West Virginia Wesleyan College, where he topped the conference with 2,480 passing yards and 19 touchdowns in 2012.

Some of the juiciest storylines out of the 2013 NFL Draft come from the crop of free agents plucked up afterward. Montana latching on with the 49ers only would deepen the mythology of the Montana family in the Bay Area, but reality makes this a long shot.

I think it's time to put the Montana's bloodline fantasy to bed. Nice try by the 49ers to once again tie into the past with the present though. More a marketing scheme than an actual tryout IMO.

Emergency swing tackle, I guess. If they want him to back up at the G/C spots, they did a really poor job developing Looney/Kilgore, etc last year.

What's so bad about having Snyder back? He played almost every position on o-line except C with SF, and had to learn all those offenses - McCarthy, Turner, Hostler, Martz, Raye, and Harbaugh/Roman. Plus he's only 30 years old.

The San Francisco 49ers have scored the West Coast's biggest naming-rights deal, announcing Wednesday that legendary San Francisco jeans-maker Levi Strauss will put its name on the team's new Santa Clara stadium when it opens next year.

The company will pay $220.3 million to the city of Santa Clara and the 49ers over 20 years to help pay for the $1.2 billion stadium, and Levi Strauss has the option of extending the deal for another five years for an additional $75 million or so. If he comes back healthy the end of this year/next year and picks up where he leaves off, I doubt he takes much of an injury discount. If he doesn't pick up where he left off, I don't know that we would be very excited about the Niners retaining him.

Wife lady ok'd the trip to San Fran for the Niners/Colts game. Where should we stay / places to see? Will be my first trip to San Francisco. Will be arriving on Thursday evening and leaving Monday morning.

SANTA CLARA -- Wide receiver Brandon Carswell has a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, an injury he suffered Wednesday not long after beginning his first practice with the 49ers.

Carswell, a Milpitas High and USC product, was signed to a two-year deal Wednesday after the 49ers released tight end Cameron Morrah.

"It was a real kick in the gut," 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said of the injury.

The 49ers responded by bringing in former Indianapolis Colts receiver Austin Collie for a workout Thursday. He missed most of last season with a knee injury and also has a history of concussions.

"He was good," Harbaugh said of Collie's workout. "He had a patellar tear 7 ½ months ago and he's very far along. Pretty impressive." Collie caught more than 50 passes in each of his first three seasons, including a 2010 campaign cut short by concussion. He had 58 catches for 649 yards and eight touchdowns despite playing in only nine games that season.

Harbaugh, who indicated the 49ers would want to sign a receiver before training camp begins, said the team is still evaluating Collie.

"It's still ongoing," he said. "There's still a few more things we want to have checked out."


 
I always liked Collie with the Colts. Too bad he had the concussion issues. Very good slot guy.

Wish him the best, but would hate to seem him take another bad shot to the head.

On the request of the prosecutors, the Santa Clara district attorney’s office decided not to issue an arrest warrant Wednesday for 49ers’ linebacker Ahmad Brooks.

According to police reports, Brooks smashed free-agent nose tackle Lamar Divens with a Heineken bottle which opened up a gash on Divens’ head that required three stitches. Brooks then allegedly punched the 345-pound Divens before threatening to get his gun. The incident allegedly occurred on June 8.

Divens was withholding Brooks’ truck keys from him so that the “very drunk” (according to the report) Brooks would not drive. Sacramento Bee reporter Matt Barrows pointed out that Divens missed a few days of minicamp, presumably because he might not have been able to get a helmet on his wounded head.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell could very well suspend Brooks for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. And Goodell could impose a penalty even if Brooks is not charged, which Goodell did after Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was accused of sexual assault.

I think more like Jerrah, but calling him Uncle Eddie (who ultimately destroyed the team without Walsh) is two to three years down the road, pending a Federal indictment.

Chris Culliver was carted off the practice field after suffering a non contact knee injury. He was in tears as he was carted off, doesn't sound good.

Culliver is currently 3rd on the depth chart behind Rogers and Brown. Nnamdi will most likely fill that spot with Culliver out.

It seems like the team has a ton of average / slightly above average corners. I'm not sure any of them individually is good enough to lose too much sleep about.

It seems like the team has a ton of average / slightly above average corners. I'm not sure any of them individually is good enough to lose too much sleep about.

It's all about the defensive line anyway. Yet, there were a few games last season that opposing teams shredded the defense though the air. I think that was more to Justin Smith's injury. That shows how much impact he has on that defense. Justin is a beast. Everybody plays better around him.

You nailed that one. The defense was completely different after his injury. HIS is the injury I'm paying most attention to.

(And praying for WR's that can do something for Kaep.)

ETA to add: of course, I'm bummed for Culliver as I would be with any contributing player.

If the defense still trends downwards on TO ratio (which given the past two years, the drop still will keep them amongst the best defenses in the NFL because they are insane there), and if Aldon Smith can't dominate without Justin, the offense may have to pick up the defense. Now without Crabs, Jenkins looking like bust or at least still struggling, the others WR's not 100%...

If Gore gets dinged it's gonna be all on Kaep and Davis. You know defenses are gonna try and take Davis out of plays.

WR is a somewhat similar position in my mind. A great QB can get by with a medicore set of wideouts, just like a great pass rush will make the CBs look better. And I think Kaepernick will be that type of QB.

Originally the 26th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft by Kansas City, Baldwin has played in 26 games (10 starts) recording 41 receptions for 579 yards and two touchdowns. In 2012, he saw action in 15 games (seven starts), recording 20 catches for 325 yards (16.3 avg.).

Well, at least we know he can catch passes. :shrug:

Yeah but I didn't think we'd see a trade, I figured he'd be cut. Maybe Baldwin will make the roster, if not at WR maybe on ST somewhere since he's big, fast, and strong.
