*** San Francisco 49ers *** Kittle locked down til 2029; Purdy contract watch underway (4 Viewers)

That said, the last 2 ex-Commanders you guys got turned out pretty good. Trent is a beast and he balled out for us even though he hated how ownership treated him. Still a beast for you guys. And then, Carlos Rogers, who had done okay for us and then he was excellent for you guys for a couple seasons. Turned out he needed his vision corrected and our stupid program failed to check people's vision.

You might get some hustle out of him while he's still playing for his next contract. If you guys pay him now... You'll wish you'd kept the pick
Nobody's paying him now, he's a cheap rental unless he proves the naysayers wrong.

All we need him to do is play 11-12 games this season. I'm just gonna watch and see how it plays out.

Popped in the Eagles thread and a few are saying Young is overrated. Lol.

Per Next Gen Stats:

Young has generated a career-high 17.2% pressure rate this season. The 49ers now have two of the top five defenders in QB pressures this season:

🔸 Nick Bosa: 41 (4th)
🔸 Young: 40 (5th)
I think it's a little bit of both. Is he having a solid to good season this year? Sure, his next gen stats and 5 sacks show this.

Is he living up to the billing of being the #2 overall pick, for his career so far? I would say definitely not. It's usually a tell-tale sign when a team doesn't pick up the 5th year option on a player. Even more so when they were taken #2 overall.

It's honestly a little bit of both. But like I said in initially, it's a good move for you guys and an upgrade a position of need.

FTR, Young did kinda get the best of our LT Mailata for the 1st matchup, but this past matchup, that just happened on Sunday he had 0 pressures, 0 sacks, 0 hurries, 1 tackle.

Mailata is the #1 rated offensive lineman in football.

We will get to see what that matchup looks like and how it plays out in a few weeks. Should be fun!

He's overrated. He got nearly half of his pressures in one game against Chicago. Against good teams, for the most part, he's usually invisible. It's not like going to SF will make things easier for him pass rushing. Montez Sweat was having an All-Pro year on the other side of him in Washington, and the DTs in Washington are probably better than the 49ers. Young will do fine against bad teams and then when they play good teams you'll be like, "Is Young playing?" It's pretty telling when a team drafts you #2 and doesn't pick up your 5th year option. I'm sure next gen has a stat for that though.
I'm a Commanders fan. This analysis is correct.

You might get some hustle out of him while he's still playing for his next contract. If you guys pay him now... You'll wish you'd kept the pick.
They aren’t paying him, he’ll be gone after the season is over. It’s an ideal situation for both of them. He joins a very talented defense and they get a guy with a lot of talent for dirt cheap. He knows he’s playing for a contract, and if he wants a pay day, he better bring it. If he can’t perform lining up opposite the previous DPOY, he can’t perform anywhere. I have high expectations for him, then I expect someone to overpay, then he’ll suck. The latter part of that means nothing to me, I’m just hoping to get the best 12 game stretch of his career out of him.

In kinda surprised we open at 2.5 point favorites on the road against a 6-2 Jags team that's won 5 in a row, while we've dropped 3 straight.

Not practicing today:

LT Trent Williams (ankle)
LG Aaron Banks (turf toe)
DT Javon Kinlaw
WR Ray-Ray McCloud

Today is a bonus practice basically, since the 49ers are coming off their bye. They have Tuesday off and Wednesday is typically a vet day for Trent Williams. Thursday will be the practice to monitor for Williams.

Practice windows opened for Samuel Womack III, Darrell Luter Jr and Robert Beal Jr.

I’d be happy for them to put Kinlaw on IR. He and Drake Jackson have been terrible by any metric.

Bosa and Chase Young talking shop at Youngs first practice with the 49ers:

Bosa, Young, Hargrave, Armstead, Warner, & Greenlaw. That’s as talented a group as I can recall. Wilks better step his game up.
Less talented than the early 2019 version with Buckner and a healthy Ford. That whole Buckner fiasco really hurt this team. They ended up spending the money anyway on Kinlaw and Hargrave, and Buckner is just a better player (worse pass rusher than Hargrave but far better against the run).

I’m having Justin/Aldon Smith, Bowman/Willis flashbacks. But now we’re stacked on offense too.

If Kinlaw is hurt, I hope they give Kalia Davis some snaps. He's a DJ Jones clone at 6'2", 310lbs and could be a boost against the run. He can't be worse than Kinlaw.

Looking forward to a great game. And for those of you visiting us in Duuuu-vallll, you’ll feel right at home. As cities, Jacksonville and San Francisco are virtually indistinguishable.
I'll be there. Driving from Tampa Saturday night.

:headbang:
Excellent. Looks like 75 degrees at kickoff, and maybe a bit overcast, which is good cuz it’ll feel a bit cooler.

No idea how the game will turn out, but should be entertaining

Richard Sherman has been talking a lot about Wilks and the 49er defense on his podcast. A lot of what he says makes sense on how to fix the defense. He obviously has a high football IQ, he's seen everything imaginable on the field, and he knows when/how to adjust on the fly when the game dictates it.

I wonder if he has any interest in coaching, maybe trying his hand at DC somewhere.

Chase Young takes questions from the media in his first presser as a 49er:

A few tidbits:

His reaction when he found out he was being traded to San Francisco: "I wasn’t mad (laughs). Nick (Bosa) is here, always been a big brother to me. Just stepping in here for today, got in here last week, just the culture, the vibe is a lot different. I definitely know that I’m in the building with winners...I see why they win. The details of each play, the details of each assignment are much greater."

On reuniting with former Ohio State teammate Nick Bosa with the 49ers: "I think it's going to be just like college, a race to the quarterback."

On being on a team with a realistic Super Bowl shot: "It's definitely exciting. VERY. It definitely gives me more motivation to go out and do my best and play every play like it's my last."

The timing of this terrible 3 game streak is perfect! Mid season, already being crowned champs. Humbling, and hopefully they can look back on it as a learning lesson. LFG!!!

Just watched the whole interview with Chase. I’m so pumped for this Jax game! My kid has a soccer tournament this weekend and I can’t disappoint him, otherwise, I’d prob already be tailgating.

Interesting tidbit about Purdy from the Athletic:

An area in which he’s excelled through eight games: dodging pressure. Pro Football Focus rates the 49ers the sixth-worst team in terms of pass protection, having allowed 84 pressures through the first eight games. Yet only four teams have surrendered fewer sacks than the 49ers’ 14.

How is that possible? PFF also tracks the percentage of pressures that turn into sacks and Purdy has one of the top marks among starters, 13.4 percent, along with Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes, Tampa Bay’s Baker Mayfield and Buffalo’s Josh Allen.

I'm bored. Here are some numbers.

NFL QBR rankings through Week 9:

1. Josh Allen: 75.3
2. Brock Purdy: 74.9
3. Patrick Mahomes: 73.0
4. Dak Prescott: 67.5
5. Justin Herbert: 66.6

Success rate (% of drop backs with a positive EPA)

1. Purdy: 57.7%
2. Allen: 55.9%
3. Mahomes: 52.1%

EPA/play

1. Brock Purdy, 49ers: 0.320
2. Josh Allen, Bills: 0.240
3. Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs: 0.223

Overall DVOA:

49ers
#1 offense
#15 defense

Jaguars
#13 offense
#3 defense

The team led by the #1 pick has been defense-driven. The team led by the #262 pick has been offense-driven.

Per Kyle Shanahan, 49ers DC Steve Wilks will move from the booth to the sideline beginning this Sunday in Jacksonville.

“I wanted him to be down and near our players a little bit. I want him to be down there so he can talk to guys more. Thats the way we’ve had it with the linebacker communication in the past."

Trent Williams will not practice today, although he normally gets vet days on Wednesdays. Shanahan hopes he’ll be back out there on Thursday, but the prognosis remains unclear. Shanahan said that Williams’ history with ankle injuries has slowed this recovery. Repeats that it didn’t show up as a high ankle sprain, though

Akash:

The decision from Kyle Shanahan to move Steve Wilks from the booth to the field seems like an acknowledgement of something wrong in terms of communication/calls/play-calling defensively.

I'd have to imagine there was some player input to Kyle Shanahan regarding the decision.

Not sure what the next move is if the defense continues to falter like they have recently, but this feels like the first domino.

Both the #Ravens and #Jaguars were in on Chase Young until the very end, when the #49ers ultimately traded a 3rd-rounder to the #Commanders.

Not a hardcore FFer. You absolutely let the wife take him and hand out orange slices to the 20 other kids who will quit the sport in 4 years and lock into the SF v. JAX game.

He’s 7 and it’s his first real tourney, we’re traveling to the west coast of FL. He’s asked me if I’m going like 57 times, can’t let him down. He’s got an older brother and we travel everywhere for his tourneys, would crush the kid if I ditched it. I love the 49ers since I was like 4, but my little guy has to take priority here.

Can’t wait for this matchup. Two most complete teams in football in my opinion as KC is missing offensive firepower and the Eagles have a poor secondary. I’m fascinated to see if SF can run the ball against Jacksonville. The Jags have given up the third least amount of rushing yards and allow fewer yards per carry than the top two run defenses.

They’re both off a bye too, going to be an amazing game. If they’re a SB team, I hope they come in and take care of business. Def game of the week here. No Trent Williams still at practice, really a huge part of that O Line, but we do get Deebo back.

Steve Wilks on moving from booth to 49ers sideline:

"Guys, to me, just very candid, we’re making a bigger deal out of it than it needs to be. I want to communicate more with guys during the game and would rather talk to them directly."

He said the hope is for improved communication. "So that we can make that dialogue, face-to-face and we can make the adjustments that we need."

“I just want to be able to communicate with the guys a little more during the game. Certain things that I’m seeing, I want to be able to communicate with them directly.”

"I can honestly say I’m sort of built for this. Not in an arrogant way.... Standard is high here, so we've lost three in row and feels like ceiling’s collapsed. ... I can take it. I’m the new guy here. I have confidence in myself, I have confidence in players, coaches"

Hey, any tips on parking for the game? In Tampa I usually pay $10-$20 for a yard spot in the residential neighborhoods near the stadium, I never park in the assigned lots. Is it like that there?

That's right Wing. You'll want to look north of the stadium....J. Phillip Randolph (to the west) and Talleyrand (to the east) run perpendicular on either side of the stadium, and there is the type of parking you're looking for on both, north of Arlington Expwy (rte 115). It's more commercial and industrial than residential especially on Talleyrand

There is usually ample parking at the nearby Fairgrounds, but the county fair is going on this week, so there is none available for the game....may result in a scarcity of spots close in to the stadium

You can find plenty of free street parking downtown with about a 1 mile walk to the stadium, one place you may want to check is the Jax Chamber, which is 1 1/4 mile from the stadium.

They have a fenced lot that's always available, and unless prices are jacked up for games, its pretty reasonable.

Greatest benefit is an easy escape. The area around the stadium gets jammed up post-game as the paid/reserve lots empty, so you're out of that mess

Hope this helps

Barrows:

T Trent Williams (ankle) is on the practice field for the second straight day, a good sign he’ll play in Jacksonville.

DT Javon Hargrave (knee), who was limited yesterday, also was on hand. I did not see LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (ankle). If he can't go, LB Curtis Robinson could be elevated from the practice squad. Or maybe rookie LB Jalen Graham sees his first regular season action.
