Santana Moss (1 Viewer)

Is he a could buy low candidate or someone who should be avoided?

Currently ranked WR20 by Dodds. Is that too low or about right?

I think he's a buy low (though perhaps not as low after Brunell's record-breaking game).

With Portis hurt and Brunell starting slowly, Moss simply disappeared from the offense. But really, so did the whole passing game. After last week though, it looks like both Brunell and Portis are back to playing at a high level, and I think Moss will begin to thrive in that environment.

It's kind of crazy how important Portis is to that O. He is an elite RB, no questions asked. With him back things should open up for everyone in the passing game.

If you are looking at him as a 2nd or 3rd WR - buy low. So far he is not a legit #1 WR this year - targets are just not there and there are too many options

Without Portis, they struggled to do much of anything. Portis returns and they showed they can run and throw short passes. However, Moss' value comes from big plays. The Redskins still haven't shown they can make big plays in the passing game (other than a shovel pass) yet. If they aren't successful throwin downfield, Moss will not produce much. I think this weekend will tell a lot. Against Jax, I want to see them try some deeper passes. They don't necessarily have to convert very many, just try. It will be very telling if they don't even try to throw deep.

Agreed. Very odd that they didn't even attempt to go deep in the game last week. In fact, I think they only tossed one pass over 25 yards.

It's not odd. It's Mark Brunell

It was Mark Brunell last year. They tossed it downfield plenty.

Bear in mind two things:

1) His targets are artificially low because he has had 5 "rushes" of which at least a few of those have actually been screens.

2) He has a phenomenal 82% reception rate.

Still, I am not arguing he's earning his draft spot. But it's too early to bail on him given these stats.

I am a bit concerned that Randle El (sp?) is cutting his production because they are so similar.

As soon as you don't play him........there will be a 78 yd reverse pass from Randle El to Moss. It's coming but I don't know if I can afford 2 or 3 pts a week in the meantime.

:goodposting: The offense will get better over time. Moss and Cooley are probably the two best buy-low candidates on that team, with maybe Lloyd also in consideration.

They've said that they were playing a defense that was giving them those short passes and taking away the deep passes with two guys deep on virtually every play, so they took what the defense gave them. The nice thing for the 'Skins is that they have WR's who are extremely fast and athletic after the catch and who can readily turn a 2 yard pass into a 20+ yard gain, the Randle El TD reception being a prime example.

With Portis clearly "back", and with Brunell demonstrating the ability to complete short passes, defenses will have to creep up, which should in turn create some opportunities for deeper passes.
