Santana Moss (1 Viewer)

Alright, someone explain this sudden "You can pencil him in for 6/75 and occasionally a TD every single week" like I'm 7.

At the risk of creating the answer - is it simply McNabb's stablizing influence on the offense? Does Shanny gameplan to keep him more involved conisistantly?

Historically, Moss has been anything but consistant. This season (save for the Philly game) he has been a great WR2 play week in and week out...what gives?

Is there any reason to expect this NOT to continue?

Mike & Kyle Shanahan, combined with a collection of UFL castoffs making up the rest of the WR core.

Historically, he's never been in this offense before. In recent history, he's been misused as a #1 WR/deep threat. The Shanahan's are finally using him correctly, which is more as a slot receiver/underneath guy. Other than Cooley, he's also the most reliable receiver (hands, route running, etc.) on the roster, by far. Save for the Philly game, he's averaging nearly 11 targets a game. McNabb relies on him.

Cowboys fan, but living in the DC area I get my share of Skins coverage, talk radio, etc. to feel qualified to answer this question. It is the perfect storm of sorts for Moss. Adding McNabb probably would've boosted his stats from previous years no matter how you sliced it, but I'm not certain it would've helped his consistency, especially in PPR leagues. But the Shanahans combined with the on field personnel is what is driving his numbers. Without looking up the exact numbers, Shanahans last years in Denver with Cutler were passing festivals, from a play calling perspective. When you throw 600+ times in a season it's hard not for the QB and WR/TEs to at least generate respectable #s. For the Skins this year, Shanny is continuing to call for McNabb to chuck it, but he knows the only competent targets are Moss and Cooley. For some reason, two of his most talented options, Fred Davis and Devin Thomas, are/were not part of his game plan. Thomas was cut, and he rarely uses two TE sets where both are receiving options. The most common set the Skins run from has 2 TEs (Cooley and Davis), 1 RB (Torain), 1 FB (Sellers), and 1 WR (Moss). If an offense is going to throw 600 times, with a pretty good QB, and only seriously target two of the five guys on the field week in and week out, it is not hard to see where Moss' consistency is coming from.

everyone seems to have covered the why. I am expecting his production to continue though. He is quickly surpassing Ocho or Jennings as my wr 3 option as he is basically a must start now.

I drafted this guy in the 8th round figuring he'd be a spot start, but I've been starting him each week since week 2, quite the surprise, IMO.

It's the addition of McNabb coupled with the departure of Jason Campbell. Jason Campbell was a worse starting QB than people actually thought. You take that bum out of there and throw in a pretty good QB, now you have a solid WR that's able to put up pretty consistent numbers since he's really the only proven WR on the team.

I had him penciled in a great value pick this year.

Mcnabb would find him down low, up high, and in between.

One of the few that I have hit.

I see no reason he can not continue great solid production.

Would not be shocked to see him end in a 88/1250/7 TD type of year.

Yep, and Moss was fairly consistent with Brunell, and even Todd Collins under center for the end of 07. I recall many times seeing Moss wave his hands up in frustration after being wide open and seeing Campbell dump off and be short of a first down. McNabb, although not awesome, has been a solid, game winning QB, and the best QB Moss has had throwing to him.
