Santonio Clutch Holmes or Braylon Edwards (1 Viewer)

I think a lot will depend on whether or not Edwards gets suspended by the league for his pending DUI charge. If he's out 4 games next year, it would be a very tough call for the Jets to re-sign him if Holmes leaves. They'd be in a tough spot for 1/4 of the season.
Holmes is also one strike away from a one year suspension.

I have a different opinion than most. I think the Jets will let both of them test the market.
Exactly.

I've been saying this as well.... WHY NOT!!!!!

Include Cromartie in the group.....

All these guys have conduct issues and might over value themselves.

All these guys were given another chance by the Jets and All these guys claim to have found themsleves and LOVE being with the Jets....

So, I don't see the problem with telling all three of em, "Listen, we want all 3 of you.. But, there is a salary cap.... go out there and see what a team will offer you can come back to us, if we can fit you in we will try... If you find some blockbuster deal then we appreciate your time"

Very true. I don't think there's any way a team gives either Holmes or Edwards a Brandon Marshall type contract. Maybe a deal like Boldin got where he makes around 6 million per year would be more appropriate, but I have a feeling both guys will initially ask for more and see if someone will pay them that. I doubt that happens.

I can see the Jets letting the guys test the market - I certainly think they won't break the bank. Myself I'd rather keep Holmes but as Rovers said, he had a very good year and surprised me a lot. Beginning of this season, I really felt it was his last as a Jet. Don't know about that now - he's been solid for them.

I'd let Cro go. He did a fair job filling in for Revis early but he underwhelmed a bit overall. I wouldn't mind him coming back but I wouldn't lock him up for big ca$h. In a dream world, I'd love to see the team bring Aso in, but dunno that happens since they need some Safety help.

Cromartie just might get signed early. There is a reason, a personal one that is behind his rants about the CBA. Child support payments. I beleive from what I have read that he's been going paycheck to paycheck and is broke. He might be inclined to sign fairly cheaply for the signing bonus. I think he feels he can't wait for the new CBA. That is the source of his volatile and verbally expressed frustrations with the lock out issue. I'm sure he is only the first of many who will voice just how worried he is in the player ranks. Some of these knuckleheads can't lay off the weed after getting caught, how many actually saved any money for the labor lock out? Despite what the NFLPA told them? Cromartie is a known. He really doesn't carry much risk. He can replace Brad Smith on returns, and while he has cement hips and can't turn, he has straight line speed. He has his limitiations, but he can cover deep very well with inside help. He certainly is not a shut down CB. If the Jets can sign him early and cheaply, I could see that happening. I don't believe Wilson is ready, and behind Wilson there is NOTHING in terms of depth at CB. Here is a crazy idea... why not try Cromartie as a gadget WR? He has the straight line speed to put a wrinkle in the offense. Just a random thought.

Signing Aso for sure, is something only few others than Spielberg could conjure up in his Dreamworks company. That would be like buying a new driveway when the roof is off the house. Far too many other necessary expensive signings to make before pulling that one off, a pure luxury item buy when the heating bill needs to be paid.

That is - bar none - my favorite description of signing Aso that I have seen.

Why exactly would either Holmes or Edwards want to resign? Do they not like New York or something? Another question is whether they would be restricted free agents or unrestricted...

If they are restricted, are they even allowed to resign? I would think they are too young to retire, but I guess it is a possibility.

Perhaps you can help everyone out and make the world a better place. Give us a disortation on resign vs. re-signed. I'm sure it would be well recieved.

This affects me in one of my dynasty leagues. Just seeing if anyone had any insided information or a strong gut feeling.Who gets re-signed before MarchBraylon Edwards orSantonio Holmes???Thanks
Sorry for the confusion everyone. I meant re-signed. Like Signed to another contract. Thanks.

Santonio Holmes is a great wide receiver.Braylon Edwards can't catch the ball half the time.If the money is even close, this is a no-brainer (appropriate considering these two).
Honestly it seemed Holmes had more drops than Edwards this season, but I agree Holmes is the more dynamic WR. I will say though that people do seem to want to downgrade Edwards based on his time in Cleveland, but he's really a much better player than the perception when you watch him week in and week out.Reaper also brings up a great point in that Edwards is a very willing and effective blocker. As some one that has season tickets in the upper deck endzone, I have a unique perspective on just how much he helps on the run game. He's allowed LT and B. Smith to get some big runs to the outside because he takes out the first line of defense (including LBers) with a key block.
Santonio is an underrated blocker as well... which should come as no surprise given his Steeler roots.I honestly feel like there's a good chance that they may be able to resign all three (these two and Brad Smith), simply because of the Rex Effect. (Rump shaker FTW!). If it was a pure economic decision, I don't think they can possibly resign both. But I just feel like this is a team that many players want to play for. Braylon was already well-paid given his draft status, and I think as someone suggested above he's someone who understands happiness and winning. Santonio is a guy who has been in a winning organization, and may see some potential in sticking with the Jets with things looking up over the next few years. So, pure speculation, of course, but I just have a feeling that they'll make it work. Tanenbaum is a crafty fella, and Rex is someone they want to play for. I think, just as you saw last year, we'll get/keep a number of players we don't deserve (even at a reduced salary) because of those things.

According to today's NY Post, the idea that Edwards or Holmes will give the Jets a discount is a pipe dream:

The consensus among the agents spoken to was that Holmes, who made about $1.5 million in 2010, will likely seek a salary that pays him somewhere between $7 million and $8 million per year and Edwards, who made $4.35 million, will ask for between $5 million and $6 million per."Braylon thinks he's worth more than that, but he's not, and I don't think Braylon Edwards is as much a priority as everyone is making him out to be," a second agent said."I could end my career here, but I'm not going to play here for a pittance just because I like it here," Edwards said recently.
