I expect him to get a few more opportunities," said Ryan. Holmes has played just 42% of the snaps in two appearances, both times coming off the bench. He may not start over Jerricho Cotchery, but should work his snap count into the 60-70% range after using a Week 7 bye to better learn the offense

Rotoworld) Jets coach Rex Ryan indicated Wednesday that Santonio Holmes could see an expanded role on offense against the Packers.

So whats the deal I thought this guy would be starting already and making a big impact, will he go off this week and be top 20 top 15 rest of the way or not be worth starting!

Why would the coach saying he'd like to get his best receiving option more involved worry Holmes owners at this point? They've been through the suspension already. This is actually encouraging news for Santonio's role moving forward.

Holmes will make quick work of dispatching the notion that cotchery should start. With that running game, Sanchez can absolutely run the playaction, where Holmes is far more effective than either Braylon or Jerricho.

The thing that I don't buy about the "using the bye to better learn the offense" is that he's been working with this team all through training camp and into the season. He should know the plays and personnel by now. I'm glad to hear they plan on getting him more involved, but I don't see why there should be a material change now than there was before the bye.

Everything takes a little longer when you're high.

Too many options on that offense and while Sanchez has improved he is not Peyton Manning who can make multiple guys good fantasy players. Holmes, Braylon, Cotchery, Keller, LT, Greene...there's only so many touches to go around.

While he was serving his supencion he wasn't allowed to practice with the team - so he was out of the loop for 4 weeks. As expected it takes a little time for him to get into game shape and his timing down with Sanchez. He should start to see a bigger role starting this week at Cotchery's expense. With teams having to account for Braylon, Keller and the rushing attack he should see his share of big palys going forward.

Correct. He was allowed to be at the facility staying in shape, spending time with the team, etc., but wasn't allowed to actually practice with them. Not sure if he was allowed to attend meetings or not. But he's definitely behind a bit and I didn't expect him to immediately put up big numbers.

Another thing to consider: As the weather turns colder, the Jets are likely to run more and pass even less than they have been doing... Which is not likely to help Holmes' production.

Personally, I think Keller is the loser in all of this. Keller received 13 targets in the first two games, 16 in the next two and when Holmes came back, he went down to 11 (of course, not a huge drop, but worth noting). On the flipside, Edwards went from 9 in the first two, 10 in the next two and bumped to 19 when Holmes came back. Even Cotchery 9grouped in twos) went from 12, to 8 and up to 17 when Holmes came back. I do think Cotchery's targets will come down some, but it is very curious to see how the other two WRs saw a leap in their targets with Holmes back compared to Keller.

Thru training camp yes....but he has to stay away from the team during the suspension. They are just getting him more and more acclimated. Teams make adjustments over the course of a season. The Jets have been winning so its not like they were desperate for Holmes to come in and light the world on fire. He has been seeing a high # of targets for the amount of snaps he is getting. Bottom line is he will become more and more involved in the offense as the year goes on and be right around a top 20 WR from week 9 on. Remember, they will most likely sign Holmes to the LT contract and not Braylon so its in their best interest to work with him toward becoming their go to #1 WR.

Starting to get more involved as of last week. This Holmes owner is hoping he can be a dependable #3 from here on in.

So has he emerged as the Jets #1 WR after his performance today? I didn't see the whole game but Sanchez certainly seems to have gotten comfortable with him.
