Santonio Holmes ? (1 Viewer)

Seriously I have seen Ward , C. Wilson, Nate all in the game before Holmes so far in 2 Preseason games.

Watching in Preseason it looks like Not only should Holmes start he might be the teams best WR. Did he do something to piss off Tomlin or something ?

IMO Holmes looks like a possible break out canidate but if the team is going to relegate him to WR 3 or 4 he's not worth it.

Any Homers know anyhting here ? Maybe he actually started and I didn't see it :dunno:

Firmly entrenched as the #2 on the depth chart.

#1 on the talent chart possibly.

Don't read too much into the HOF game and Preseason 1. Coaches are looking for guys who need to prove themselves to step up. i.e. Wilson, Washington.

Holmes has proven himself. Dealing with minor/vague health issues. I'll bet he runs with the 1's vs. Wash.

WR Santonio Holmes ran with the first-team offense, opposite WR Hines Ward, for the first time in training camp on Tuesday. Holmes has been listed as a first-teamer since the camp-opening depth chart was released, but he has been playing behind WR Cedrick Wilson after not making it onto the field until July 28 due to a non-football related surgical procedure.

Holmes is at worst the #3 right now. He is ahead of Washington. He missed the first few days of camp, so he wasnt running full speed and most likely with 2nd unit until after the HOF game. He has 2 long catches, and appears to be ready for a breakout year IMO. C Wilson is more than likely the #3...I actually like Holmes and Wilson over Ward, but Ward is a team player, makes blocks, catches the key pass, etc. Its hard to put a stat line on Holmes because no one really knows what the Steelers O will actually do this year, 4 wides, 3 TEs, 2 WR and 2 TEs. Watch the next 2 games, I think the Steelers will get the first/starters a decent amout of time.

With the way Wilsons been playing in preseason and with Ward slowing down it could well end up a 1a 1b 1c type of unit. Even so Holmes is still the better bet to beat out Wilson in points. Nate still hasn't even locked up the 4th spot and is getting pushed by both Reid and Young so he's not even a factor.

(Rotoworld) Steelers WR Santonio Holmes has started running with the first team offense.Impact: Holmes has been listed as a starter since the first depth chart was released, but has been slowly worked into the role after missing time due to a non-football related surgery. He should make a solid WR3 this season.

why all the sad faces on Hinesi see it all over the boardswhat are the STATISTICAL reasons that people are getting down on him other than ageor is age/injury concern the only issue?if that is the case, i dont see Holmes surpassing him any time soon

even though hes 31 (which isn't too old for WRs) Ward is entering his 10th season and it was clear last yr that he is slowing down. On the plus side... Ward is tough as freaking nails... if hes sitting of a game; you know its bad.

Ward #1, Holmes #2, Wilson #3, Washington #4, Reid #5. Dallas Baker on the Practice Squad. Walter Young will make the team if they keep 6 WRs or he could beat out Washington if he keeps performing well and Washington keeps dropping passes.

Spread Sets this year + late season form Santonio Holmes + Healthy Big Ben = TOP 20 WR finish for Holmes. Ward is not a deep threat and they WILL pass more this season.

Keep an eye on Wilson though, never liked the guy but hes pissed about getting looks from Ben and hes got a chip on his shoulder. Made great plays in the pre-season so far. Wont make it easy for Holmes.

If we shouldn't put any stock in where Holmes has been on the preseason depth chart, why should we then put any stock in the big plays he's made against backups?

I think he'll be a nice player for the Steelers, but I think some of the hype on this thread is a bit premature...

Don't. However, IMO you'd be silly to ignore his 16.8YPC in his 2006 rookie year, Add a year of experience and what looks to be a wider spread Steelers offense this year, and depending on your stnace on Ben...a healthy, productive offseason... Holmes should make a great WR3 with WR2 potential this year.
