Saturday night egging spree in my neighborhood (1 Viewer)

My direct neighbor was hit, as well as  guy two houses down on the feeder street to my cul-de-sac. Three other houses one cul-de-sac over also got hit.  All the homes are owned by African American families.

I'm disheartened today.

Its possible the ones that did it are also black, no? Every house we ever toilet papered when I was in high school and did stupid stuff to, was owned by white people.

Clear to me that this was targeted.  You would not have to live in my neighborhood to have the knowledge of which homes are black owned, but very likely this was a deliberate and targeted act by a neighbor.  As I said, I'm disheartened.

It is within the outer realm of possibility, but I do not think so.  They have no common bond other than skin color.  Only one has high school aged kids.  Two families are retired folks with kids gone before they moved in, one has grade school aged kids, and one is just starting out.  I have seen T.P.ing done to multiple houses at once, and that fairly clearly seemed to involve high school hijinx with each of those homes being the home of a girl on the cheerleading squad.  This was malicious and targeted in my estimation.

You would not have to live in the neighborhood to know who lives where, but that is the most likely explanation.  You could be a regular visitor to the neighborhood and have this knowledge too, I suppose.  the mailman and trash guy would know this.  Families with kids who have friends over regularly, so driving the neighborhood regularly would have the knowledge.

My original posting would have been more clear if the word "have" was rendered in italics.  Sorry, poorly communicated on my part.

No, not to my knowledge.  Neighborhood makeup, from my observation and a mental count of the homes immediately nearby is 45% Caucasian, 25% African American, 20% Hispanic, 10% Asian.  5 homes hit, all five owned by African Americans.

My power washer is getting a workout.

Good mix. From what I have seen... my neighborhood is about 80% white, 15% Middle Eastern and 5% Hispanic..... Well, let's say 77.5% white and add in 2.5% Asian for my wife and half points for my three kids.

The neighborhood to the immediate east of mine seems to have a high concentration of whites, possibly due to the Mormon church there.  The neighborhood to the south of mine seems to have the north Africans and middle eastern population, I have no theory as to why (The homes there are a step up from my neighborhood).

I live in a pretty white burb. City data has it at:

White- 83.6%

Hispanic- 6.3%

Asian- 5.9%

Black- 2.5%

Two or more- 2.5%

I have no idea where the Hispanics are. I would have guessed much more Asian (assuming Middle Eastern is lumped into Asian too) because the city has a good amount of Filipino's and a ton of Middle Easterners. Most times when you are shopping and you see a black person it is pretty much a given that they are from one of the nearby neighborhoods that are like 95% Black.

The Chicago area always seemed strikingly very neighborhood based on ethnic make up. I live in an area in the city before coming to the burbs that was about 95% Hispanic. It is crazy to me that these city lines have such high numbers of one ethnicity. Growing up, I lived in what was considered a VERY white suburb of LA but that was only around 60% white with Hispanic and Asian making the bulk of the rest.

Anyways.... It sucks that there are dumb people out there that think egging houses is a good idea and even more so that it seems race based. My guess is that because we are talking eggs it is kids that got it in their head that this was fun to do.

Two of my neighbors have video systems.  Both are gone right now on vacation.  Undoubtedly their systems are on and likely caught some of this activity.  I told my neighbor Ted about this.  I gave him the #'s of each guy so he could text them and ask them to preserve the video until they get home.  I agree that it will turn out to be kids, ignorant kids.  Is that redundant?

I once lived in a predominantly aa townhouse development.  My roommates and I were one of three Caucasian households in our neighborhood.   At Halloween,  we got egged, and so did the other two houses.   We pulled the shade down,  put that plastic wrap insulation over it and left it closed for the rest of the year.   We never washed it off, and acted like nothing had happened.   Nothing ever happened again.

When my daughters were in high school our house was egged..had to be a dozen   We have white brick and it was probably dried on for 24 hours before we noticed it.   Was a pain in the ### the get off the brick even with a power washer.

I must admit when I was in HS eggs were my weapon of choice..loved hearing that splat noise on a car and seeing the yolk all over the windows.
