Has anyone every been? Looking for some where fun for partying and drinking. I lived in New Orleans for 13 years, and really enjoyed St Patrick's Day in NOLA, but want to try some place new. Also heard that Phoenix is suppose to be fun as well. Any insights? Wife and I mid 40's want to stay in the southern part of the United States

Check out a sunrise while you're in the area. Useta visit a gal down the coast from there each spring and the colors on the ocean horizon @ sunrise can be as tight as a horizontal rainbow. Awe inspiring.

Was in Savannah in the Spring for a wedding.  It is an awesome town.  It was the only time I have been there and it was great.  I have no idea what it would be like during St Patty's day but there are enough pubs along the waterfront that you can easily get from place to place.  I would recommend a haunted pub crawl if you are into that sort of thing.  We did one and it was a good time.

I lived in Savannah during mid 90s. St. Pattys day then was a total zoo. Town population basically doubles. River street is where the extreme drunks are. Lot of families in the squares. You can carry an open beer pretty much anywhere in Historic district.

I marched in the parade my last year there. Long route, especially when you're having beer and green grits at 7 am. You're not supposed to drink while you're in the parade. I ran over to friends a couple times and guzzle their beer then got back into formation.

I really haven't spent much time there the last decade plus.  The new craft breweries they have are supposedly decent.

On normal days, Exchange Tavern and Kevin Barry's on River Street were my go to.

Roof top bar at the Bohemian hotel on the river is nice.  We were there a few years ago after a trip to the Masters and the sand fleas were pretty bad. All the outside bars had a can of insect repellent on every table. The Marriott along the river also had a quiet patio along the river for drinks but nothing special except for being right on the water.

I went in 2003.  Holy Moses, what a ####show.  My brother had booked us rooms at the Thunderbird, within walking distance of River St.  After the first night and ensuing afternoon, we didn't even go down to River Street any more - the party just in the parking lot of that motel was nuts.  People doing 20-foot beer bongs off the second floor at 3 in the afternoon.  I have a video tape from that weekend which is 75% just people throwing up in the rooms and parking lot.

Of course, the room smelled so awful (I'm pretty sure there was something dead in there) that I had to walk to a gas station at 6 AM to buy pine scented car air fresheners to hang around the room just to make it tolerable.  What a weekend.

Also, my buddy got mugged by a thief with a knife that weekend.  His wallet was stolen, but the thief dropped HIS OWN WALLET at the scene as he fled.  Wasn't hard for the cops to catch him and return my buddy's belongings.  :lmao:

You might want to check out the parade in Jackson, MS.  Its a lot like Savannah...just a big drunk fest.  Not really my scene anymore, but it would be a cheap trip for you.

Great town, you'll enjoy it.  Lots of different types of bars all around different squares in the town.  I spent a week there last May and loved it.

The wife(before marriage) and I went one time back in 2000. I remember walking back to the car from river street and ran into Tonic playing on a stage with only about 50 people watching. Also on our way back to the car we saw plenty of people passed out wherever, sidewalk, bushes, under a tree.

There were ####### out everywhere. Just needed some beads.

I still have this shirt from the festivities.
