Florida has watched 24 States pass recreational marijuana laws, what the heck are we waiting for? (1 Viewer)

I am ok with the way it is set up right now. Get a medical card.....go to dispensaries.

I don’t want to see people walking around in public getting high in front of children. And kids having to smell it all over the place.

We are fine down here. Florida is doing it right. Crazy because we do a lot of things wrong.
I'm in a legal state and public smoking like public drinking is not allowed except for certain licensed exceptions where the area is segregated from minors. Similar to drinking at at an outdoor cafe.

Yeah I don't know what the laws are in California but my brother lives in the bay area which I would assume is near the top of weed smokers per capita in the world. We spend a lot of time there visiting him and I can't say I recall ever seeing anyone smoking weed in public. I don't know if it's a legal thing or if people just prefer to do it in their home.
I have zero issues with it as long as it is not blatantly done in public.

Rock concerts….that’s another story.

But I have heard plenty of stories of people in LA saying it’s blatantly smoked in public.

Disclaimer: vape carts are my business, I may be slightly biased

Are you aware of any known health issues associated with vape carts (as contrasted with smoking) or any reliable studies? I'm asking because I don't know the answer but am interested. I admit the convenience is appealing and its the one thing that might get me to make the one-hour drive. I have a portable dry vape that heats flower, have used the liquid/oil products but don't know enough about them to go all-in.
Vaping has only been a thing for 20 years, and some of the technology for much shorter time periods. That's not enough time for meaningful long term safety data, especially as it pertains to risk of cancer and chronic lung disease.

Acutely, if you missed out on EVALI from the vitamin E in early "safe" products, there's probably not much harm, beyond standard risks of inhaling small particles of variable composition. The real question should be, is it safer than conventional marijuana smoking, or alternative consumption of THC?

Physiologically, I think the purpose of lungs is a site for gas exchange, and not much else. Personally, if I were to indulge, I'd choose edibles.

Disclaimer: I don't smoke, never will, and health care is my business. I also may be biased.

Just hop on any East Bay BART or downtown SF BART train haha

Even in the Netherlands where weed has been legal as long as I can remember, you don’t see people openly smoking pot in most public places outside of the hash bars, cafes and touristy clubs. You would never fire up a joint in a locals‘ bar or restaurant in Amsterdam even where smoking cigs and drinking alcohol are completely normal.

Was in Cancun many years ago, before States in the U.S. began legalizing, hanging out with a couple guys from Amsterdam. They said that most people who lived there didn't smoke, it was mostly just the tourists.

Living in Florida, so not being "exposed" to the allowance of smoking in public, I do indeed notice it when I am traveling to a place where it is legal. Specifically, I think of New York City and Chicago as two places I have been recently where it was not pervasive while walking down the streets, but it was certainly noticeable. However, even though it's not publically legal in Florida, I do come across it fairly often here, whether it's walking down the street (I live in a village area with proximity to downtown Miami) or driving behind someone who is actively smoking.

The cynic in me also suspects that the winners of the current medical system are just happy with the way things are and they are in the pockets of the politicians. They love the current status quo.
Who are these winners you speak of?
Trulieve, Surterra Wellness…the MCOs that own most of the licenses.
Thanks. Massraider explained it well upthread.

Personally, I’d rather the facade of medical use be dropped. We should treat marijuana just like alcohol. But big companies will squeeze out the little guy regardless, because that’s the what tends to happen In most industries.

The only issues I am aware of is the concern a few years ago, with some off brand companies cutting corners, and using cheaper, dangerous chemicals.

A home smoker, who occasionally takes a legit cart on the go, no problems there.

I actually think the flower dry vape that you use now might be the best way. Like, if you graded each way to consume on a list of factors: cost, waste, health, discretion, convenience, flavor, buzz, etc., I think flower vape might be the best overall.

We waste a lot of flower when we smoke, it's the least efficient method. And the tech gets better and better with cannabis stuff every year (month, it seems).

I'm shopping around for a great flower vape now, this is the tab I have open right now

Wow, these have come a long way since those balloon bags of plastic. I might ask Santa for that.

In DC you can’t go 10’ without smelling weed. For whatever reason- it’s always smells like the same awful dirt weed. If you’re downtown you will commonly see people openly smoking it.

Yeah......that’s why I like what Florida does in regards to how you obtain it and no public use.

Of course people smoke weed in their cars and all that jazz.......but I don’t want it to the point where you just see people openly getting ripped and smelling it everywhere.

For disclosure.....yeah I partake and enjoy it as well. But I draw the line on certain things like that.

Keep the porn stash in your bedroom kinda ****.

Old school I guess.
