Are you guys saying the mother did nothing wrong here? Is that was you are saying? If so i am floored.
there's wrong and there's stupid.

gl trying to protect chlidren and the world from stupidity.
people are saying what the kids did (falling) was stupid. yes, the mom was stupid. You can be stupid and wrong.
mom was stupid, imo. kids are inherently stupid- which is why you hope moms are a little brighter than shopping cart woman.

but from your story- she's not malicious. wasn't having them stand there to set them up to get hurt. that, to me, is where she would be wrong and not just stupid.

but yes, there's a fine line between clever and stupid.
I never said she was malicious. People here were saying what the kids did was stupid. I said the mom was stupid. Yes, kids are inherently stupid which is why they don't go to the market alone to buy ice cream. Mom should have known better than to let two kids stand in a cart and then leave the cart. We're saying the same thing.
:hifive:

except it wouldn't occur to me to even think of CPS.
I just asked the question and you have answered it. No calls were made. Nobody was outraged. i contend the woman was an idiot for putting her kids in the cart like that and then leaving the cart. Others claim the kids are idiots for falling and mom is not to blame. I disagree with that. hope the kids are ok and that's it.
I don't follow.

why ask the question, if you're not considering both answers, or at least looking to ridicule somebody who has the other answer?
why ask the poll question? for the hell of it. I don't know. Tried to convey a story and see what people thought. I never considered people would think the kids were stupid and not the mom.

Kids need a switch imo - contact Peterson to see if he has any spares lying around - since he won't be needing them anymore.

Frog protection, right?

Willie have you tried any of these chicken places:

Rex's

Charlie's

Raising Cane's

All good for chicken in IMO. I don't really care for that Chick Fil A sandwich and their side of religion. If you tell me where you got the chicken I can figure out where the grocery store trauma happened.

The reason I ask for this information is that I work in a local hospital and a child came in requiring stitches to his forehead. Maybe you witnesses the abuse? I would say more but HIPAA doesn't allow it.

YIC

Kids were not stupid, they don't know any better. Mom is obviously a flake leaving a 3yr old standing in a cart unatt.......hey you eat those fritos by themselves or with dip?

You obviously have no idea how DCFS (Department of Child and Family Services) works. They would be so pissed if you wasted their time on this.

Was the fruit organic or not? This is very important in deciding. Also feeding them fast food like Chik a filet should also be ground for calling Child services.

Well good thing I didn't and never was going to.
Then I guess it wasn't "the most horrible thing" then eh?

Of course the kids were stupid. Most are, though I highly doubt every 3-4 year old out there would tip the cart over. The mother was careless for a moment. Maybe she is also stupid, who knows.

This was probably a good learning experience for the kids so maybe they don't do something equally as stupid in an even more dangerous situation and get seriously hurt.

Non story

What did the kids do that was stupid?

What did the kids do that was smart?

Kids do stupid stuff. What planet you from to not know this?

I am starting to think those stupid kids are smarter than this thread though. I could have left my 4 yesr old in the shopping cart and it would have been fine. Actually did this several times. She was smarter than these kids and would not have tipped it over. Maybe this mom was stupid for not realizing how stupid her kids are.

The kids didn't climb into the cart themselves. The kids did nothing except be put into a potentially dangerous situation. Do kids do stupid things? Of course! Did they do anything stupid in this instance? No! Maybe one kid in a cart wouldn't be enough weight to tip it over. She had two kids standing in a cart. Both stand on one side of the cart and whammo, it falls over. The kids were stupid for not understanding the physics involved in their positions in the cart and keeping it upright? The kids were stupid in not telling mom that the cart may tip over? These were not kids who found trouble on their own by climbing up the market shelves when nobody was looking, These were kids that were lifted and placed into a potentially dangerous predicament by the person in charge of their care. Did mom do it on purpose? No. Do kids do stupid things all the time? Yes. In this instance, did the kids do anything stupid? No! My goodness.

Just a bad accident. If that was considered child endangerment, I think every parent would be locked up at one time or another...

Parent lack of foresight, no intent nor egregious neglect. The concept that the children might both stand to one side of the cart and reach for something simultaneously, thereby overloading the weight to one side obviously didn't strike her. It's not like she put a set of Ginsu knives in the cart with them. Next time you go to a mall, watch and see how many mothers take their children in strollers onto the escalators. A big no-no.

Parents can be frazzled and dumb.

Why did you not say anything to the mother? Or rush over and remove the kids from the cart?
We had just walked in. I don't make it a habit to watch other peoples children for them. I saw this woman out of the corner of my eye. The crash startled everyone.
So you don't know how many times the mother told her kids not to stand up in the cart? You don't know what kind of havoc they were causing in the store before she put them in the cart so they couldn't pull a display down on themselves? And, of course, you don't have any idea how many dozens of times the kids had ridden in the cart on past trips without standing up? In the space of a few seconds and seeing a woman out of the corner of your eye then hearing a crash, you were able to determine that it was entirely her fault and that she endangered her children to the point where it's appropriate to consider CYS action? Maybe the poll should be: does exposing your children to a stash of Fritos constitute potential child abuse?

I never considered contacting family services. I added it to the story to generate some discussion. a mistake on my part because that's all anyone has focused on.

We were near the entrance of the store. Based on where the woman was she had just walked in. her cart was empty except for two kids. The way she was acting led me to believe the kids behavior was not an issue. She didn't tell her kids not to stand up. She saw them standing. She couldn't have been more at ease based on how she was conversing with the kids.

I regret posting the story. When you get on the wrong side of the mob in this place it can be frustrating. It was one of those startling situation. The was a lot of blood coming from a toddlers head and eye area and it shouldn't have happened. I guess you had to be there.

If I was guilty of child endangerment every time my stupid kids did something stupid, I would be locked away for life
The kids didnt do anything stupid, the mother did.
They stood up and leaned out of a grocery cart. Stupid.
Yeah. You'd think kids who are that advanced age would know better.
Having fallen out of a grocery cart as a young boy, I can tell you firsthand it takes a downright stupid move to accomplish the feat.
