My Brother N Law just called and let me know he heard Portis is out for 8-12 weeks on a sports radio show in Seattle. He doesnt play fantasy football so it must be so. Everyone is bumping up Betts but I think Gibbs might actually favor Rock Cartwright.
:rotflmao:

Dammit :hot: :hot: :hot: I'm sure I just blew up my acquisition of Gordon over this crap. It's one thing to see this sort of rumor floated on a message board like this or given in a fake e-mail. It's quite another thing for a so-called reputable source like sportsline to run with it. I'm sure that my undo-redo on Gordon will now fail. Friggin' idiots - nice sourcing :( -QG

OMG - that is hilarious. It was on Sportsline long enough for the Portis owner in my league to pick up Betts at 5:07pm. Classic.

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Clinton pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

The page is pretty well done. If you don't look at the URL, you would never know it's a fake. Well, except for that last line of the article. This is out of control though...being reported by CBS Sportsline and a Seattle news station?I seriously wonder if the person that did the site will face legal action.Rounders, what is the purpose of using a post stating how many people are reading the thread? We all have that information available to us... :wall:

 Here fishy fishy!!
Hey man Im just passing what my brother N Law said. The guy doesnt play fantasy football but immediately asked me if I had Portis on any of my teams. If its a hoax than sports radio is getting duped.

My league uses CBS and I posted the link on there teasing the Portis owner in my league. Now that the link is dead and does not work I look like a moron. But teasing this guy is classic because he dropped Holmes in a keeper league in order to keep Plaxico Burress.

I'm the Portis owner in my league - and all of my leaguemates got taken in by Sportsline's screwup. Everyone's been consoling me for half an hour.EDIT: thank goodness this was up on FBGs earlier in the day, or I might have had five minutes of panic before I realized the web address was screwy.

A LOT of people got duped. That's why you come here before you make any rash moves in the FF world. FBG's who were alerted to this as a HOAX much earlier today are just sitting back and enjoying the show now!

In case someone missed it or wasn't paying attention.I see it all the time in big threads, the part that gets me is the number of "guests" probably the guppies running out to pick up Betts

I just heard it on the ESPN radio affiliate here in Hampton Roads, VA at 5:15 pm. They reported that their sister station reported that Portis suffered a weight lifting injury and would be out 8-10 weeks.Needless to say, my commute home was a little bit in the speeding side of the speed limit. I wanted to pick up Betts from the ww.When I pulled in my drive way, the next update was that they could not substantiate the report, and that the initial news breaker, CBS Sportsline had removed the news from its website. :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

HOW DOES EVERYONE THAT SAYS IT'S FAKE, KNOW IT'S FAKE?
Well, #1, the web page doesn't even exist anymore. That's a clue. Redskins team website says it's bull####.NFL.com doesn't have a page that says it.No reputable source has confirmed it.It's not on ESPN twentyfive times an hour (ala Ricky Williams' retirement)etc... etc.... etc...

AM930theFox in Jacksonville is reporting this also. I just emailed them and blasted their effort in verifying this before reporting it. They do pimp this site on their station a lot which i would rather them not do.....

QUOTE (justwin @ Sep 9 2004, 03:34 PM) I got freakin screwed!!! Just got Portis for Dunn thanks to CBSsports line..... Man I glad this guy lives 300 miles away!
I'm not sure that's something I'd be proud of, if the trade was made with you knowing the story was false. You = :bag:

THANK YOU UNCLE HUCKLEBUCK. NOW GO GIT BACK ON YER SISTER
Don't have one. I think that was your sister. And may I just say - I was trying to help you out with discerning definitely that this was a fake article. Now, if you usually react this way to people who help you I guess I can understand why you were never informed that posting in all caps can be considered "yelling" for no reason in an internet chat forum.

THANK GOODNESS>.. www.redskins.comThis is posted on Redskins official siteNOTE: The report that Portis is injured and will miss 8-12 weeks is ERRONEOUS.

Those guys are GOOD FRIENDS to this site - keep that in mind when you say things to them.I GUARANTEE we will take their side (given the advertising they do for us) in any dispute with board members. That said, pretty piss poor for any news station to havepicked up that story.Personally, I have already received death threats from the two leaguemates (obviously different leagues) that I sent that story to - and they def. freaked out.

Oh...well, since you see it all the time in other threads, I guess it makes sense. BTW, "guests" are people who are just not logged in right now. I'm often a "guest" at this site because I'm browsing while not "logged in."Well, now I need to find an FA to add when I drop Betts (who I picked up by dropping Morris earlier today). Too bad the Portis owner in my league didn't pick up on the news and drop someone...

Because it's been posted right here on FBGs as a Hoax since 8:30 this morning. If you read the fake story, it was full of mispellings, and dated as September 8th. Don't you think that if this happened yesterday, the world would have known well before Sportsline posted it sometime this afternoon? The Shark Pool was right on top of it, have been all day.

LEVIN Who cares that they are good friends of yours. I can still call them dumb a#### for running it. I am sure you scared a lot of us by saying you would take their side on anything on this board. You are way out of line for threatning people with your loyalty to them for the simple fact of them advertising for you. I actually live here in Jax and if the truth be known, most people around here think they are just a bunch of ham-n-eggers.

Guess I was right about guppies picking up Betts, you just happen to be one of them. :boxing:

I've got a buddy who heard the news and went and quickly put $10,000 on the Bucs (who play Wash.).I think he'd like to get his hands on the guy who made up the report.

I guess who ever pays the most money will win any problem or situation.I agree Sowerdoughboy. Excellent Post

If your friend can throw that kind of money around on a football game then I dont feel sorry for him.Seriously.

Re-read - I gave them noise for not checking - nor did I threaten you.In a back-hand way I told you to play nice with them b/c they scratch our backs. If you still have a problem with my post, or anything else, please feel free to PM me and we can discuss this issue off the board.

You are kidding right? Ouch.

Levin I still don't know why you even had to chime in about playing nice with them. They were punk'd and thats all I said. How I took your comments were you agreed with me but. since they are your friends and you have some type of business arrangement I should sensor my negative comments and hold my tongue. Who said sensorship is dead?

OK, then let me apologize to you directly. Whatever I said to get your hackles up, I apologize.I never said you should censor yourself - but I do ask you to play nice b/c those folks are friends of ours.I have apologized - if you STILL have a problem here, I beg you to PM me and keep it off these boards. Agreed? Good.

CBS is now attempted to CTA - bastards.

Clinton Portis, RB WASNews: Contrary to earlier reports, Clinton Portis has not suffered a significant injury and will not miss playing time. Analysis: Our apologizes for the error. This news brings a sign of relief for Fantasy Football owners who have Portis on their roster.

Levin 10-4, apology accepted, and my spelling corrected "censor"
Glad we could "Rodney King" our differences here to a non-issue. LOL!The Law - funny how CBS is backtracking instead of straight up saying it was a hoax.

Thats what I was thinking. They say "contrary to earlier reports," but neglect to say it was FAKE or admit that they were one of the very few news sources DUPED! And an empty apology - good work.

That is too funny that Sportsline fell for it too. On the way home, I was listening to "The Drive on Fox with Eric ASillyAss (sp?) and CJ whatshername", and they were reporting the story as close to fact as well. Then they interviewed some sports reporter from Washington who said he did not see the story, but thought it was 99% chance of being a hoax. But then he also said that no one had seen Portis since the injury supposedly took place. Way to cover your A there, guy.One more thing for Sportsline..."sign of relief". Nice messed up saying.

A buddy of mine was already talking trash in one of my leagues. He said "sucks to be you!" Had to retract a little bit later. :D

Despite bogus internet rumors to the contrary, Clinton Portis is 100% healthy.

We've heard from a few readers on this one, so we thought we'd mention it. Don;t go dropping anyone to pick up Ladell Betts. Sep. 9 - 6:26 pm et

Rotoworld posted this.....

Seriously? It's the idjits that picked the fake news story up that he should be after. The situation's reminiscent of Michael Vick announcing that he hadn't come out of the closet with a bang.

Good point. The link is no longer working, did anyone manage to get a screenshot? I'm curious to see how "legit" this page looked.
