Scoring issue regarding Curtis's TD this past week (1 Viewer)

Let me start by saying I don't have Curtis on my squad and am not competing with the person who has him, I just think he's getting screwed.

Our league has been in existence for 18 years, pretty much all the same guys. We have a cumulative scoring system and then guy at the end of the year who wins takes home $4,000 (not chump change).

So the guy winning this year has Curtis and started him, he was awarded the points for the fumble recovery in the endzone and the guy who is in 2nd objected because statistacly it was ruled a defensive TD. And because this issue isn't outline in our rules he wanted the points taken away. Now the guy in 2nd is like 35 points back with 1 week to go and has a long shot of catching the leader but he hasn't given up hope. He brought this issue to the attention of the commish (that it;s not outline in our rules) and the commish took the points away from the leader.

My question to you is, do you think Curtis should be awarded points for that TD? In your league was the person who owned him given the points for that TD?

My stance is that when an offensive player scores he should be given credit for the score. If Favre fumbles and Grant picks it up and scores then Grant should be given a TD. I suggested that this issue be put to a vote right now but the commish seems to think that we can't vote on stuff during the season, and the guy in 2nd doesn't want this to happen (vote now).

What would you do, or what have you done to resolve an issue like this?

Sorry, just saw the post aboutthis exact topic from a couple of days ago.

It still does little to explain how to handle this. In the past we have always given points to players who score (punt return, kickoff return etc.) Now just because it was ruled differently by the stats people it shouldn't count? Clearly Philly never "lost" possession of the ball.

Did the guy in your league get the points for the TD?

We use CBSSportsline....
Eagles WR Kevin Curtis caught six passes for a team-high 78 yards with a touchdown catch at New Orleans in Week 16. Curtis also recovered a Donovan McNabb fumble in the end zone on a wild play in the first quarter, but was ruled an offensive fumble recovery, not a rushing or receiving touchdown. Curtis went over 1,000 yards receiving, giving him 1,048 yards, the most in his career.

Fantasy owners will get credit for Curtis' second touchdown, but not the first one that came on a fumble. The Eagles are expected to start Curtis and use him all game long vs. Buffalo in Week 17. Figure him to be a reliable No. 2 Fantasy WR.

1. it's clearly not a defensive TD. If your service scored it as a defensive (or special teams) TD, you should seriously consider changing providers next year.

2a. my advice: if your league has a history of giving points to non-passing/rushing/receiving TDs, then you should absolutely give Curtis the points here. There was no change of possession on this play.

2b. on the other hand, if your league rules have specifically excluded similar TDs in the past, then you should exclude this TD as well.

But I would lean heavily toward giving Curtis the points.

I agree... I'm baffled why anyone would say it is a defensive TD. It clearly was an Offensive Fumble Return TD. That is how it was (correctly) ruled by the NFL's statisticians. Anyone claiming otherwise doesn't know what they are talking about. And I'd say it should be ruled the same as you've ruled every other Offensive Fumble Return TD in the past 18 years, until you change your rules.

Also, this is thread #1798 that points out why I hate money leagues, because people will try to rules lawyer just out of greed for the cash prize.
