Warning, this is a venting thread...
So, I've been the commish of a local league since 2002 and this year I totally screwed myself because I got too busy and didn't double check some of the league settings.
History:
Local league, $75 buy in, all friends, many I would consider good friends. We have had a co-commish for about 4 years or so that helps having an impartial opinion among other things. About 4 or 5 years ago, we locked the waivers once the playoffs started and would allow you to aquire a backup of your player if there was an injury to give the playoff teams the opportunity to not get screwed by an injury.
So, fast forward to this year. I was insanely busy during the beginning of the year and I forgot to set the waivers to lock week 13, then when the playoffs came around, I completely forgot about the locked waivers rules and allowed about 20 transactions to occur weeks leading up to rounds 1 and 2 in the playoffs (about 4 waiver moves by myself included).
Well, on Sat before the SB, the Jones-drew owner (also the co-commish) contacts me suggesting the waivers should have been locked and he had the right to his backup that was picked up a week before. After realizing our mistake, I suggest we have to leave it be as it was caught way to late and games have already been completed etc, and it was his fault as well as it was mine. He pushes back a little and contacts the team he's playing to talk about it with him. Here's where it gets a little crazy, the team he's facing in the SB is the team that just beat me to move to the SB and I look at our rosters to see "what if"...
I made some bad waiver decisions and had the waivers been locked and I was forced to play what I had on my roster (even taking the lowest score at those positions), I would have beat his team and been in and won the SB. He made two waivers, K and D, the K swing in our game was 13 points (wash vs Oak) and I lost by 7 with the bad decision lineup in (forced roster lineup has me with this by 20+).
So, all things considered, it falls on me missing the waiver lock, but damn it still stings knowing what could have happened had I set it up right. If I were not the commish in this league, I would have sent an email to the commish once the first waiver move happened, but as commish I slipped and because of it I lose out on $300..
