Not that anyone is leaning on either Jones or Morris, but I thought this would interest some Jones owners that were contemplating starting him...

POSITION WATCH

Running back. Holmgren's plan to continue using Julius Jones and Maurice Morris was evident today. Morris got the bulk of the reps in practice because the plays being run were those that feature him.

Jones had 373 rushing yards after four games, in large part because Morris missed three of them with a sprained knee. Since Morris' return, Jones has fallen off the pace to reach 1,000 yards for the season because he has 243 in the past six games.
IMO it looks like they are both bad plays, but this leads me to believe that Jones might be an even worse play considering he saw less touches this week in practice.EDIT: To update thread title

Good info. Jones looked like garbage last week against the Cardinals. He fumbled early in the second half and only got one carry after that. Morris got all of the touches and Duckett got the goal-line looks. This is a situation to avoid in my opinion. I thought Jones might have some value after looking good against the Dolphins two games ago but you can't trust him and if he doesn't run well, Holmgren won't hesitate to go with Morris.

I didn't have time to bump this thread this morning. My apologies if it would have made a difference for you.

From the locker room after the game:

Of the Julius Jones-Mo Morris thing, Holmgren said there was a miscommunication with the PA announcer, who announced that Julius was starting. When he did, nobody ran out of the tunnel because everybody was confused. Holmgren said he had planned all along to start Morris, and when he came out hot he continued to run plays for him. He said he may start Jones in Dallas, but that decision has not been made.

Also from the post game:

( On the amount of playing time for Maurice Morris compared to Julius Jones…) We were going to start Mo, and then we had a little foul up in the beginning and we didn’t get the word to the Public Address announcer, so they announced Julius, and everyone got kind of panicky, there , because no one ran out. But once we figured that thing out; Mo was going to start the game today, and then, as we have done with those guys, when they have both been healthy is that if one guy is hot to start with it, we let him play a little bit more. Mo had a really fine game, I thought, running the ball today. On Thursday, it could be different. But, that’s how we tried to handle the both of them all year. Julius has had games where he is kind of feeling it, and things are going well, so he would play a little bit more.

(On the amount of practice snaps that Morris had…) There were some packages, but in practice, if you see that he doesn’t get as many reps, it is because we are doing some other things. You might not see that at practice, because Duckett has to factor in just a little bit, and Weaver has to factor in on some plays just a little bit. The number of practice snaps is never enough to really get a good feel of that. Whoever is going to be the starter is probably going to get a little bit more in practice as well.

As a Jones owner, I appreciate the info here. Of course I'm not starting him, but it's good to know what your RB depth is (or isn't). I was curious why he had so few touches on Sunday.

I grabbed Mo Morris for the Week 15 matchup vs the Rams ....

I have a bye in Week 14 and with FWP always iffy this year I wanted to grab some insurance for the playoffs... since I missed out on M. Moore.

:goodposting: .. here's to Mo Mo grabbing a hold on the starting gig before then..!!!

I'm in the same boat (bye in week 14). Debating on whether or not to burn the last of my FA money on Morris just for that Rams game. Way not worth a play that week unless something weird happens to Jones IMO. Ugh.

Julius Jones will start Sunday's game, and Holmgren said that a part of that decision has to do with Jones having motivation playing against his former team. He said he honestly is not trying to mess with Jones' or Morris' heads, but that he is trying to be fair in doling out time and carries.
Just an FYI. Still sounds like a 50/50 time share. I think the only think that keeps one or the other on the sidelines for good is an injury.

Despite his strong showing in Week 12, Maurice Morris will head back to the bench with Julius Jones drawing the start at Dallas.

Coach Mike Holmgren is citing vengeance as the decisive factor, realizing that Jones is set to go off for at least 35 yards against his former team.

from rotoworld.

lol gotta love snarky blurb writers.

Also, I know I read somewhere this week that Duckett is likely to see more carries. Can't remember where I saw it.

Morris with a solid game yesterday in the snow against the Jets (29-116).

Jones didn't see the field even once.

Duckett did his job by getting a first down on a short yardage situation with his one carry. Duckett was stood up at the line, but powered forward.

Weaver fumbled inside the 5 yard line.

I know this is all going to depend on the new coaching staff that Mora puts in place. Guesses? Thoughts? Ideas? There's no way Seattle doesn't improve next year in my opinion. I just can't fathom it. They suffered an unrealistic number of injuries and several of the backup linemen showed some serious promise the past two weeks (Willis and Wrotto in particular). Jones and Duckett are both under contract. Not sure what the story is with Morris. Holmgren is clearly showing his preference for Morris over Jones, but that could all change when Mora takes over.

I don't think the starter in '09 is currently on the roster.
What sort of RB do you see Mora wanting? Someone to fit a specific system? Or do you think he leaves the offense to someone else? That's my guess. I think he sticks with Hasselbeck and they keep a WCO system in place. Further, I see Mora having more of an impact on the defense. He's going to have an owner with deep pockets at his disposal. I wouldn't be surprised to see him make a play for a top DT like Haynesworth.

Well that quoted statement is very likely incorrect. Even if they add a back (likely) it will be a RBBC and Jones will be part of it. Morris probably won't be back and Duckett needs to get his poop in a group. I think they'll take a RB in the 3rd or 4th round to take some carries next year, a guy who can catch some passes out of the backfield.

I grabbed Duckett out of desperation in a couple of dynasty leagues at the end of this year just because of his history with Mora and because Jones wasn't exactly awe-inspiring this year. I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping maybe Duckett will be next year's LenDale White.

Forsett is a 3rd down back type. I agree that they'll wait to draft a RB given their other needs, but the guy they want is someone who can potentially carry the ball 15-20 times per game.
