Seahawks @ Chargers Game Thread (1 Viewer)

Seattle rolled down the field on SD's #1 defense.
Might be a bit of an overstatement. Hasslebeck had a pass tipped at the line of scrimmage by Jamal Williams (who knew that fatso could jump that high?) that luckily ended up in the bread basket of an offensive lineman who carried it for a bunch of yards and a first down. Later, Hasselbeck threw an INT that was taken WAY back that got annulled by a ticky-tack foul. Seattle did move the ball pretty well, but they also got pretty dang lucky.
Yes, a left arm wrapped all the way around a receiver as he's passing, slowing him up and allowing the DB to get position for a pick is ticky-tack, It was a clear penalty and will be called every time. SA dropped a pass, who knows what could've happened there. There was never a hint of a pass rush, SD's D got owned that series. The only big break in the game ref wise went to the Chargers on Weddle's INT when the play should've been dead for a false start.

 ticky-tack?

I think Obumanu wins the 5th WR job. He worked hard on the practice squad last yer and was called up for the Cowboys and Bears games but was inactive. He's looking good, getting good separation and good concentration.

It was inside five yards of the line of scrimmage and the receiver instigated as much contact as the DB. Yes, it will get called, but it will get overlooked a lot as well. Seahawk fans have an interesting perspective when it comes to penalties. Every one in their favor is legitimate. Every one against them is bogus. Makes it kind of hard to take you seriously.

He looks bigger too. Nice game for him. Wallace looks better than just serviceable too.

I look at penalties objectively and that was far from ticky tack. I just watched the replay on tivo and he still was clutching the front of Hackett's jersey at 6 yards. Probably woldn't have gotten called if the arm wasn't all the way around Hackett. The last par tof your statement is ridiculous because 90% of every team's fans are biased about their penalties.

It was't inside five yards and the contact wasn't instigated by Hackett. That was as clear cut a penaltly as you will ever see. Even the DB knew it.

After a few mistakes. The fumble, half a second away from down by contact. The pick was a terrible throw, great idea. I can just imagine a safety and Weaver meeting head to head if that pass was dropped in perfectly. The OL's pass protection has been damn good all day. Run blocking not so much...Disappointed in not seeing more Weaver. They tried two passes (both bad) and his runs were unspectacular. But it looks like they'll try to get him the ball. Very curious that Greene is taking no snaps.

A ticky tack foul? He clearly got held you bum.

Wasn't really impressed by Chargers.

I did like Naanee...he is pretty quick for a big guy.

Chandler was +/-, not a great router runner

Wallace started out horrible. Holmy kept him in the game and he helped win the game for them. Obomanu looked great and should have the #5 WR spot. I wish they would give Weaver a few handoffs at tailback and see what happens.

I was hoping to see something from Hackett & Burleson. Both were almost invisible tonight but it's only week one and the offense was very vanilla.

Branch and Hackett had 1 target each and I don't think Nate had any. Odd to see Nate out returnign kicks, I thought Josh Wilson was going to do that. And Obumanu was returning punts instead of Burleson, who excelled at it last year.

:loco:

Every team has the same fans. There's no truer fact in life.

Ahh...so start the damaging penalties of a poorly coached team.
 I can help but feel the discipline of this team will go down with Norv in there. It is preseason though. so ill cut him a little slack.Floyd sure did play alot, I think Buster Davis already won the #2 spot opposite Vjax. Floyd & Vjax need to improve their ball securityI think we will miss Donnie Edwards

Donnies replacement (Wilhelm) didn't play. So yes, Dobbins getting his first start looked a little lost the first few minutes of the game. I was at the game, I wouldn't draw many (any) conclusions one way or the other about either team. The Seahawks certainly took the game a bit more serious it appeared to me, they were actually trying to play defense, and Holmgren was challenging plays like the outcomes actually mattered. The Chargers (and Seahawks for that matter) were sloppy with the ball, and the Bolts had too many bad penaltys. Thats about all I took away. Oh and Eric Weddle is going to be starting soon.

Bad game for the Chargers. Very sloppy. The starting D couldn't stop the pass. Quentin gets burned for a long TD again, maybe McCree's fault. The starting secondary wasn't covering anyone.

LOL at the Rivers looking like a statue comments, both sacks were by guys who went completely unblocked right off the snap.

Looks like Davis might end up the #1 receiver after all. Naanee looked good, I thought Gross looked good in his limited touches, though he did drop one poorly thrown swing pass that he might have caught and missed a block that led to a sack.

I was extremely underwhelmed.

I think they Chargers are still experiencing an emotional let down from last year (I'm not talking about this preseason game, but the big picture). I don't think Norv is a good motivator. This is a recipe for an underwhelming season.

These are the exact kind of thoughts that should NOT be taken away from a preseason game. Lucky bounces to O lineman, bad penaltys, zero gameplan, droped balls, blah blah. It means nothing, these games mean nothing. The leagues best player wasnt even in pads.

Naanee, Gross & Sproles all impressed me for the Bolts - at least one of those guys won't make the team, and I think they all looked good. Weddle looked good on D for them, but the rest of the D was kind of balh.

Seahawks D played much better, and I've got to give Sims a big  for awareness & open field running on the tipped pass - don't see guards doing that often.

 If they look like this in the last preseason game I'll start getting concerned, but right now it was just a bit underwhelming. It is a shame that Wilhelm is going to miss reps the next couple of weeks though. It will be interesting to see if/how Norv corrects the errors from yesterday.

I think Gross is a lock for the practice squad again, and will make the roster next year to take Turner's place.I think Naanee will make the team somehow.Sproles is fighting for his life though. If he continues to play like he did yesterday I think they'd have to make room for him, which might cost Camarillo a job perhaps.

Um yeah. I said in the old Marty threads the same things I said above. The only thing this first performance did was put a red flag on what I took away from the way last season ended.

I will guarantee Sproles makes an NFL roster - he could help a lot of teams. He'd look particularly nifty on a team that likes to throw, and could use a returner upgrade - Eagles, perhaps?

My apologies, I figured when you said the "Chargers are still experiencing an emotional let down from last year" you meant like in the game yesterday. And the fact that they were sloppy meant to reinforce that fact. I was merely pointing out that taking that belief is likely the wrong thing to do from yesterdays game. If you have a "hunch" the Bolts are going to be in for a bad year, thats your opinion, but to think that yesterdays performance should validate your hunch one way or the other is not prudent . Preseason games mean nothing other to say hey look, Calvin Johnson does look fast and big.

I can go along with all that. I'm probably reaching to validate my concerns. I even hope I'm wrong predicting a let down. I like the Chargers. San Diego is a fun place when they do well. The team is loaded.
