Seahawks name Russell Wilson Week one starter (1 Viewer)

I have a theory that short QBs especially like throwing to tall WRs and TEs. Brees to Gates and Graham and Colston for example. I think I like Braylon Edwards' chances of making some noise this year.

Hype officially starts now. Im intrigued. I always like to take a pretty solid QB2, but I may take a flier on Wilson in the last few rounds as a QB3 and see what happens.

Isn't Sidney rice taller?
I wasn't thinking of Edwards vs Rice so much as Edwards vs Tate. Edwards is listed 6'3", Rice 6'2", Tate 5'10".
I honestly didnt even know Braylon was on SEA

The funnier part is...he actually looks really good from what I've seen. He's got a QB that's willing to give him some jump balls it appears.

Trade offers are already rolling in for him. Best one so far is for Ryan Williams (redraft). Probably will take that one... But may hold off a few days to let the hype build.

You have a little catching up to do grasshopper. They signed Antonio Bryant and Edwards after cutting Fat Mike Williams, then cut Bryant and added T.O., then cut T.O.Looks like Edwards will stick, and compete with Tate for the spot opposite Rice.

I'm not a Seattle fan, but as a 5'8" guy myself I'm really hoping Wilson proves all the conventional wisdom totally ignorant. Go RW!

Wilson's top 3 pass catchers at Wisconsin in YPG were 6'3, 6'2 and 6'4 in that order if I'm looking at this right.

What do people think of his redraft value? Round / trade value?

Before the announcement I took him on a hunch as my QB2 in the second to last round.

does anyone know of a talented qb who couldn't get it done because of his height?

do we not like small qb's because there isn't many of them or because they tend to have a poor track record?

Isn't Zach Miller even taller?
I don't know what to make of Miller this year with the way he was used last year to stay in and block plus now the addition of Winslow. I really loved his chances when they signed him but man what a dud of a season he had. I live in the Bay Area and when he was here he was the only reliable pass catcher for several years, and it just blew me away that Seattle didn't really use him. I understand the need to block to protect the QB, blah blah, but they should have gotten someone else to stay in and block and let Miller catch balls. Way under-utilized. Anyway, I'm sort of rambling, sorry. But I just hope their use of him matches his skills better this year if the OL stays healthy (and he doesn't get any more concussions).

Didnt think it would happen this year but I am nothing but happy for Wilson and excited to see what he can do with this opportunity.

We are from the same hometown, same height, he's got a good story, and from all accounts is a great young man.

Will be rooting for Wilson and also thinks he has very good FF value as a high end QB2 as long as he keeps the job.

This guy is a huge buy right now. I could see similar stats to Cam last year, although I suspect his rushing TDs will be far lower. The dude is a dynamic playmaker.

Stupid Pete carroll. As a Flynn owner with 15 pick in a 24 team dynasty I would have liked more ambiguity.

Looks like he's in like... well, not like Flynn.
Iteresting call. You go with Flynn, you can always move him to the side for the rook.Going this way first, makes it a lot harder to go the other way. Hope they got the right guy.
Carroll has preached competition since the day he got here. If you play better, you get the job. No way could he stand in front of his team who is totally on board with RW (who has been first in/last out every single day) and say that Flynn's starting after being outplayed at the most important spot on the field. He'd lose every ounce of credibility he's earned over the last few years.Flynn played fine. He just lost the competition to a kid who played lights out every single chance he got. Gruden knew some things apparently.

Did they take 2 inches off of Rice with the shoulder surgeries? NFL.com lists him at 6'4", as do other places.

Wilson is the first 3rd-round QB to start week 1 since Joe Ferguson in 1973.
(... assuming Vick doesn't slip on a banana peel in the next couple weeks and Foles has to start for him. Their game is 3 hours earlier. :D )Pretty amazing that 5 of the NFL's 32 teams will be starting rookie QBs. I'd bet that's never happened before.

It's not that complicated. Everyone and their mother knows that Wilson outplayed Flynn this preseason.Did Flynn suck? No. But that doesn't mean he didn't lose the competition. Playing decent doesn't mean you get to start when someone is playing better than decent. And it wasn't like he was an established vet who was just dogging it through training camp or just punching the clock in the preseason games and had the rug pulled out from under him. He knew what he was in for and had fair warning to bring his A game.If you want to see an interesting call, start Flynn when everyone around him is whispering about how he got outplayed by a 5'10" rookie and is only starting because someone in the front office is embarrassed about his contract. Then watch the hilarity that follows when he throws up a pick or fails to deliver in the fourth quarter. If Wilson struggles, it isn't going to be hard to put Flynn in. Because in that moment he'll be compared to the Wilson that is struggling. If you start Flynn right now, he'll be compared to the Wilson that whipped him in camp. And that means everything that Flynn does will just make people wonder if Wilson would be doing even better. You aren't doing Flynn any favors by making him start under that kind of scrutiny when everyone (but the guys who predicted Flynn would win) thinks he got outplayed by Wilson.

I'm not even going to bother looking that one up. No way it's happened.
It hasn't happened before. I don't think 4 rookies started at QB on game 1 of the same season before. I'm looking forward to it, rather than watching retread QB's start and, in good games, achieve mediocrity. Let's see how the young guys do.

There is only one Packer in team history who has thrown for 6 TD's in 1 game ever, and I'm not talking about Aaron Godgers or Brent Favre.

Highly doubt Wilson would have been able to do the same.

:goodposting: This news doesn't surprise me at all. Carroll made the right call.
