Seahawks name Russell Wilson Week one starter (1 Viewer)

Wilson should be drafted in the 4th round in redrafts now. Fifth round is a steal since those rounds would be nearing the 10-15 QB's drafted.

Dude didn't even get drafted in my rookie draft a couple of weeks ago. We only go 3 rounds and it is IDP, but still....surprised at this. I may have to throw some waiver bucks his way...

Only worth anything in a start 2QB league. He's still not worth a roster spot in 1QB leagues.EDIT: Just re-read your post and have no idea how deep your rosters are, so that could change my opinion.

Whoa, nellie. As a 'hawk fan, I'm really excited about RW and what he could turn into. Let's not forget that this is a rookie QB on a team that wants to win by pounding the ball and playing D. They've got Tom Cable, talent (that gets hurt a lot, yes) on the line, a stable of very capable backs, and a defense that should provide precious few opportunities for garbage time QB stats.

As a Bears fan and a Bears D/ST owner in 4 out of my leagues, I love this move. The Bears D is gonna be feasting this year on inexperienced or crappy QBs:

Gabbert; Luck; Locker; Kolb or Skelton; Alex Smith; Russell Wilson; Sam Bradford; Christian Ponder.....

I like your thinking! I'm an NFL rival obviously but none of that matters in fantasy. I took the Bear's D for the same reason you just described.... I see lots of opportunities this season! Plus my league gives good bonus for shutouts.... against these noob QB's I think it's a lock!

Alex Smith is neither inexperienced nor crappy.

You mean like week 15 last season where TJax routed the Bears 38-14 in Chicago? Where the Hawks defense had 4 picks and 4 sacks? You must be thrilled!

There is only one Packer in team history who has thrown for 6 TD's in 1 game ever, and I'm not talking about Aaron Godgers or Brent Favre.Highly doubt Wilson would have been able to do the same.
You're right, he probably would have ran a couple in himself instead.

I like that idea :) $$$$ Seriously though, that is an interesting scenario for the Bears. I guess that is a promising IDP year for Briggs, Peppers, etc.

So is this guy as big a scrambler as he looks like in preseason, or does he project to be more of a pocket passer? If he tries to run this much in the regular season NFL as a QB at 5'11", 205, he's going to make Mike Vick look positively sturdy.

Predicting a Patrick Willis decapitation sequence.

He not a running QB, pass first QB who happens to be fast. He is also much more "thick" than Vick or RGIII for example. He doesn't have an injury history and I don't expect him to break like those other two.

I'm in a 7 keeper league, going to 10 keepers next year. I am a Rodgers owner w/no back-up QB at the moment. Should I snag him as a back-up and a possible long-term keeper?

Always thought he would be the perfect backup for Rodgers - He is a great decision maker, very good passer and a good runner. Pack would have a twin (the shorter on) as Rodgers backup.

I don't do projections but if I did I would project Rodgers type rushing stats.

Disagree with this. Even in a 12 team league at minimum 24 QB's are gone...Wilson is in that top 24. And that's assuming teams only carry 2 QB's and in a lot of cases teams carry 3.

Which means what? The Pack should have kept Flynn and traded Rodgers? I mean, OMG, Flynn did something Rodgers hasn't done!Well, get this: What has Wilson done that Flynn hasn't? Answer: Win a QB competition for a starting gig in the NFL.Some of the Flynn boys said Wilson never had a chance. Well, he opened some eyes, and forced a QB competition. Even then, they said Flynn would win going away. Then the competition tightened. Then it was about Flynn having some sort of preferential status because of his contract even if the competition was close, or that it's just preseason and Wilson isn't really that impressive. Then we started to hear rumblings that Wilson could win the job if he outplayed Flynn with the 1's. Then the Flynn boys sort of evolved their argument into a strawman acting like Wilson supporters were saying Flynn was garbage...which is ironic because that was the Flynn contingency's position on Wilson over the summer and as camp started. Then Wilson played very well with the 1's and the experts predicted Wilson would get the start. And even then, some Flynn boys refused to see the writing on the wall and kept pushing the idea that Wilson starting would be bad for the team so Flynn should still start. Then Wilson gets the nod. Now it's being spun as a reckless and wrong decision by Carroll and the staff, who apparently don't know as much as the Flynn boys even though they've had the benefit of an insider's perspective for meetings, practices, games and film review. You know, at some point, being wrong so often should become a clue that you aren't tuned in very well. But by all means, double down on the Flynn-is-better mentality.

lol You're half right...
 What was "crappy" part about him last year?- The 3,144 passing yards in a clear run-first offense?- The 17/5 TD-INT ratio?- Or that he led them to the NFC title game, and what should have been the Super Bowl if they had a punt returner.

You were SERIOOUS? :lmao:A few points - they are a "run first offense" because their QB STINKS! 3,144 Passing yards? Seriously? That was 19th - right behind Rex Freakin' Grossman. He "led" them to the NFC title game? I think the 49ers top 5 defense, which was #1 against the run and was 2nd in turnovers generated had much more to do with them getting to the title game than Alex Smith. You better be fishing - or related to Alex Smith.

:goodposting: The analysis regarding this situation has been terrible from a lot of people (particularly a certain staff member, though that's no surprise based on things I've read from him in the past). It's almost been a weird sort of denial that he had a legitimate possibility of starting.I don't pretend to have banked on him starting the season. I thought that if it happened, it would be more mid season. Nonetheless, based on a myriad of factors (talent, opportunity, organization not wedded to the vet through contract, etc., and a real apparent willingness to play the best players rather than give the auto nod to vets/contracts-which some apparently dismissed as coachspeak) it was obvious the possibility existed. People need to watch the games and synthesize all the information out there without relying on someone to tell them what to do.eta: I haven't looked at numbers in terms of success rates but I'm skeptical regarding backup/one hit wonder QB's cashing in based on one big game or even one good season (when the starter was hurt). Jury is out on Cassel I think, Kolb is looking like a bust. Schaub obviously panned out.

You're making yourself look awfully bad here. The whole point was that "you'll rack up points starting a defense against S.F."Good luck with that.

Nope. My point was simply that Alex Smith is a crappy QB. Sweetness_34's point was about defense.I'm not the one defending Alex Smith - so no, I really don't think I look all that bad.

Yeah, Smith was AWFUL when he needed to match points with Brees in the playoffs.http://scores.espn.go.com/nfl/boxscore?gameId=320114025

Just stop already. I get it. You own Smith (or are related to him). Or :fishing:

Either way, I'm done here. I have important things to do. :bye:

Wilson should be drafted in the 4th round in redrafts now. Fifth round is a steal since those rounds would be nearing the 10-15 QB's drafted.

Literally every single thing you just said was also said about Cam Newton last season.I'm NOT comparing the two QB's, but it shows how weak your argument against Wilson is.

So we're at the point where thinking the 4th round is overdrafting him, huh? And thinking that's high is an argument against him?I think you just helped make my point. Also, I'm a 'hawks fan who is really excited about Wilson that owned Cam last year. Before you tell me my argument was weak, can you tell me what my argument was?
