Seahawks WR2 Training Camp Battle? (1 Viewer)

concussions, two bad shoulders, hip issues, and he is only 25. He is already finished before he got started. He is one of the most inury prone players and has only had 1 year of any value to owners.

Some may disagree, but in a redraft Rice should not even be rostered. Your telling me you will put him on your team when there is an 80% chance he will not help your team when there are so many better players with just as much upside out there at his ADP? Not me, but then again I'm a shark, I like players who help me win and not look pretty on my bench saying "Wow, I might have a good team if Rice was healthy."

Rice is just not good (fantasy wise), say what you like. I'd rather have T.O. or Braylon, both look better then Rice. How do I know? THEY ARE ON THE FIELD!
Good stuff. Why are you slumming it here when you're so clearly more knowledgeable than everyone else?

Terrell Owens a threat to Sidney Rice with Seahawks?

By Gregg Rosenthal

Around The League editor

We wondered in Wednesday morning's Training Camp Buzz whether Terrell Owens' signing said more about Sidney Rice's place with the Seattle Seahawks than it expressed dissatisfaction with third-year pro Golden Tate.

On Wednesday afternoon, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll spoke loud and clear.

Eric Williams of the Tacoma News Tribune notes that Owens played as the second-team flanker at practice. That's Rice's position.

Golden Tate lines up at split end, where T.O. traditionally has played during his career. Braylon Edwards also is in the mix at split end.

Putting Owens at flanker is a sign that the Seahawks don't necessarily trust Rice to be healthy. From the Antonio Bryant signing onward, this entire preseason has shown the Seahawks don't trust their wide receiver group.

Reaction to Owens' first practice with Seahawks

Owens will catch that TD pass 9 times out of 10. What I wanted to see was if he was able to get downfield seperation and he clearly beat his man.

Obo is looking over his shoulder at the line of guys behind him every second in camp. He is on the bubble and he knows it.Ironically if Owens had looked over his own shoulder that way he would have caught the bomb last night.

This was my thought as well

Owens took a step backwards last night. Maybe several.
That's funny. My reaction to the same performance was "Owens just solidified a spot in Seattle's rotation".The dropped pass wasn't nearly as important as the separation. If Owens can get open on a consistent basis, he starts for Seattle.

I feel the same way. The separation was the biggest thing there. He's been known to drop passes as it is.

you're joking, right?he may have dropped the bomb but he has a skill set at 38 that those other guys clearly don't. Did you listen to Carroll's comments after the game? The guys had less than 2 weeks of practice and has some rust to kick off. Owens will be starting for Sea week 1. He is the best receiver they have and all reports out of training camp have been nothing but positive so far.It isn't as if the incumbent seattle receivers are coming off great years or anything.

T.O. and Braylon out wide and Doug Baldwin in the slot, with Rice in and out of the lineup due to injury, or Rice gets healthy and starts, with T.O. and Braylon taking turns. How about T.O. Braylon, S Rice and Baldwin all in there and Flynn goes through his reads. I think Flynn has Joe Montana type upside.

Terrell Owens struggles in Seattle Seahawks debut

By Gregg Rosenthal

Around The League editor

Terrell Owens started Saturday night's preseason game for the Seattle Seahawks. It went downhill from there for T.O. in his first NFL action since the 2010 season with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Seahawks starter Matt Flynn targeted Owens five times in the first half of the 30-10 victory over the Denver Broncos. None were completed passes. Before you blame Flynn, consider that he was 6-of-8 passing on attempts to all other receivers.

Owens and Flynn weren't on the same page on multiple plays. Flynn appeared to expect Owens to go one way, and the receiver went another. The two were in sync, however, in the second quarter when Owens got behind the Broncos' defense. Flynn dropped the ball in the bucket for what should have been a 46-yard touchdown. The ball went right through Owens' hands.

We are wary of putting too much stock into the preseason, but these are huge weeks for guys like T.O. who are fighting for a roster spot. Braylon Edwards made some plays last week. Owens can't afford another night like this.

Seahawks GM unsure if Owens, Edwards can co-exist

By Dan Hanzus

Writer

The Seattle Seahawks signed Terrell Owens on Aug. 6, one week after signing Braylon Edwards.

On the surface, it appeared to be a duplicative move by the team. Edwards and Owens are essentially the same type of player, veteran pass-catchers who don't bring value on special teams.

They also carry the reputation of being suspect locker room guys. During a Wednesday appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio, general manager John Schneider was asked by NFL Network contributor Adam Schein if the Seahawks can trust T.O. and Edwards as teammates.

"Adam, quite honestly, we are still evaluating that."

It was a candid answer from the GM, and one that goes back to our initial theory that Owens and Edwards were heading for a death match in training camp.

Owens had a fairly disastrous preseason debut against the Denver Broncos last weekend, finishing with zero catches on five targets, including a drop of a sure 46-yard touchdown pass from Matt Flynn. Edwards had two catches for 51 yards and a touchdown in the preseason opener, but was shutout against the Broncos.

Schneider's comment certainly makes it seem like the Seahawks' roster isn't big enough for both of them.

What are they going to do, keep Golden Tate? Tate should have never been drafted and cut yesterday. If they cut both Tate and one of Edwards and T.O. that would at least be reasonable.

Personally, I like Baldwin as a breakout candidate. I don't have any factual or statistical reason to back that up, but just based on the (limited) things I've seen from him this preseason and in the past, I've been very impressed. And I think that goes over well with this regime.

That said, the posts here have really lost sight of the salient point in the OP, IMO - that Sidney Rice, if healthy, is the CLEAR #1 in this offense. He's the most physically talented of all of these receivers and if he's healthy we could quite possibly see numbers like with Favre.

I humbly appreciate the info and the correction Zoo, you make a lot of sense.

The irony of your post, like much of the nonsense you post in te FFA, is that you are neither humble nor able to articulate a coherent rebuttal. Same halfwit stuff that you are known for.

I'm not sure he has Joe Mantegna upside. Even including Godfather III.

Meh, MOP is hit and miss just like the rest of us. I think the only lock in the SEA WR situation is if Rice is healthy he's #1. I wouldn't really be shocked by anything that happened at WR#2 and also wouldn't be surprised if that starter changes throughout the season even if the change isn't due to injuries.FWIW Dodds projects Owens #3 most productive WR in SEA, Henry #4, Wood #2, Maurile #5. I'm just sayin' if MOP has his doubts about Owens this year he's in pretty good company. I try not to post subscriber content but I think if anyone is planning on their fantasy season hinging on Terrell Owens they are probably in trouble... so I guess you can chalk me up as a doubter as well.

Will Braylon Edwards spell doom for T.O. in Seattle?

By Marc Sessler

Writer

Pete Carroll loves competition. As much as any coach in the league, the leader of the Seattle Seahawks doesn't shy away from pitting established starters and veterans against newbies and nobodies.

Tarvaris Jackson learned the hard way that re-winning your job each season is the new normal in Seattle. Matt Flynn and rookie Russell Wilson have edged out Jackson at quarterback after spending the summer throwing to a group of receivers that range from undrafted rookies to down-on-their-luck, last-chance characters like Terrell Owens and Braylon Edwards.

It's a crowded house at wideout, but that won't last. One of these two aging vets is likely to go.

Eric Williams of The News Tribune has followed the team closely and had an interesting take on where T.O. and Edwards stand heading into Saunday's game against the Denver Broncos.

» On Edwards: "Every day during practice Edwards makes at least one eye-opening play. Right now, Edwards is the most consistent of the big receivers who can make explosive plays down the field. I find it hard to believe he will not be on Seattle's roster when the season begins."

» On Owens: "He has a lot to overcome. And the fact that he finished without a catch and a bad drop against Denver is just scratching the surface. He still appears to be the same T.O. who complains when things are not going his way. And Pete Carroll will not put up with that from a fifth or sixth receiver -- see T.J. Houshmandzadeh."

In Seattle, the words "see T.J. Houshmandzadeh" sound an awful lot like the trumpet of doom.

Braylon Edwards besting Terrell Owens with Seahawks

By Gregg Rosenthal

Around The League editor

Terrell Owens caught two passes for 41 yards in the Seattle Seahawks' 44-14 preseason romp against the Kansas City Chiefs, including a 40-yarder over his shoulder. Braylon Edwards caught a 32-yard pass.

That sounds like a draw on paper, but we believe Owens took another step backward overall after last week's disastrous preseason outing. T.O. didn't fight for one ball thrown to him deep down the sideline. He dropped another pass on a play that was erased by an unrelated penalty.

Edwards has been with the Seahawks for a slightly longer time than Owens. He reportedly has outplayed Owens in practice and hasn't been as demonstrative when things don't go smoothly. It's unlikely there is room for both Edwards and Owens on the Seahawks' roster, and T.O. just hasn't shown enough to make us believe he'll make the team.

Forget about the WR2 battle -- I'm more concerned about the WR12 battle.

Seahawks current (estimated) depth chart:

1. Sidney Rice

2. Golden Tate

3. Doug Baldwin

4. Braylon Edwards

5. Ben Obomanu

6. Terrell Owens

7. Deon Butler

8. Kris Durham

9. Ricardo Lockette

10. Charly Martin

11. Lavasier Tuinei ®

12. Phil Bates ®

13. Jermaine Kearse (PUP)
Owens, Bates, Butler, Durham, Kearse, Lockette, and Tuinei all cut. Guys in bold made the team.

What are they going to do, keep Golden Tate? Tate should have never been drafted and cut yesterday. If they cut both Tate and one of Edwards and T.O. that would at least be reasonable.
I actually like Tate, I think he's decent in a best ball format, he's a tough weekly start to figure out but he'll have some games where he'll help out a fantasy team, IMO.
