Giant Tension Developing?
June 24 show in review
• John says that Marshall Faulk is willing to play one more season but that the Rams are having questions about bringing him back. Also, the ESPN.com NFL Power Rankings are out... Sean asks how on Earth the Seahawks are the #1 team? John defends the pick of the Seahawks based on their 2006 schedule.
• This week in 4 DOWNS: Should Bengals coach Marvin Lewis make an example of one of his legally challenged players? (soon, no, but you may see something in training camp, depending on how these guys perform) Would the Bears actually permanently demote Thomas Jones and Lance Briggs due to their failure to report to workouts because of contract issues? (Briggs wont lose his job, Jones could lose his job) How will the Titans do with Billy Volek at QB? (not that great, Vince Young's going to see the field at some point) Are the Giants worried about the Eli Manning/Plaxico Burress relationship? (No chance)
• Mike Haynes, member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame/NFL Vice President of Player Development: Mike talks about the Rookie Symposium that starts tomorrow in San Diego and talks about the messages that they intend to deliver to this year's rookie class, including the message that players don't play in the NFL for very long so they should continue their education and make wise financial and life decisions.
• Seattle Seahawks DE Bryce Fisher: Bryce talks about his great season last season and where he thinks his game is going. He also talks about the impact Lofa Tatupu had on the Seahawks defense last season in their run to the Super Bowl, and how he thinks new LB Julian Peterson will fit in to the Seahawks already talented defense. On the offensive side of the ball, Bryce talks about the loss of Steve Hutchinson and how he thinks that will impact Shaun Alexander.
• John updates us on free agent QB Jay Fiedler, who may now end up with the Buccaneers after Bucs backup QB Luke McCown suffers a knee injury in camp this week. The guys also run through some of the top teams in the ESPN.com Power Rankings and break down what its going to take for the top teams in the rankings to meet those high expectations. • This week's Huddle Headlines from John Clayton: Marshall Faulk isn't talking retirement, but there's plenty of retirement talk surrounding him... Buccaneers in search for a new backup QB after Luke McCown tears his ACL... Dominick Davis is slow coming off a knee injury, making the Texans look even worse for not taking Reggie Bush... supplemental draft coming up, former Virginia LB Ahmad Brooks worked out for 22 teams and the 49'ers may give up a 2nd round pick to get him, but off the field issues have raised some flags... WR Robert Ferguson may be cut by the Packers.
