Season Long QBBC Case Study (1 Viewer)

QBBC: Ben Roethlisberger and Eli Manning.

Scoring: 6 pt/pass, run, receive TD; 1 pt/25 yards - 3 pt. bonus @ 300 yards; 2 pt/2 pt. conversion; -2 fumbles/INT's; 1 pt/10 rush/rec.

Week 1: Roethlisberger @ Browns over Manning @ Cowboys

Results: Positive. Manning outscored Roethlisberger 36.6 points to 30.6 points, but Manning and Roethlisberger finished the week 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in QB scoring. And, I won.

Week 2: Roethlisberger vs. Bills over Manning (INJ) vs. GB. Note: I'd do this even if Manning were 100% healthy.

I'm hoping that Eli sits this week out and gets healthy.

I'm trying this theory in one of my 12 teamers of mostly guppies. All TD's are 6 pts.I drafted Favre, Cutler, and Campbell.I think I'm going with Favre in week 1.
I ended up going with Cutler in week 1...which turned out being the best move. Over 300 yards and 1 td.This week I'm going with Favre against that horrid NYG secondary.

My QBBC took a bit of a change, I planned on rotating Alex Smith and Jake Delhomme, and figured on using Delhomme this week and every week until his bye, with JP Losman in the mix as the backup QB3. Well, Losman is dumped for roster space, so now it's Jake and A Smith alone. Still planning on going with Delhomme until his bye week.

QBBC Hasselbeck and Grossman.

Started Hasselbeck week 1

Going with Grossman week 2 - I figure the Bears will want to establish Grossman and their offense.

Great thread idea. I will participate...

08/29/07 12 team live draft at local watering hole

no PPR, passing TDs 3 pts, otherwise normal FBG scoring

Odd Rule: Each team required to draft EXACTLY 3 QB, 4 RB, 5 WR, 2 TE, 2 PK, 2 D

Passing TDs are only worth three points, and my leaguemates ALWAYS draft QBs earlier than the ADPs I see on the Internet. These factors, and the persuasive Chase Stuart articles here at FBG always drive me to a QBBC approach. Since the league rules mandate that we draft three QBs, I try to be the 11th or 12th team to draft my first QB, then pick up QB2 and QB3, before most of the other teams have their QB2. It all makes sense on paper, until you deal with the weekly agony of picking the right QB to start.

This year, drafting from the 12th spot, I started out RB/RB ... WR/WR ... RB/WR. True to form, as my 7.12 pick approached, every other team in the league had 1 QB, and a couple had already drafted their second. This locked my into taking my first QB. I practically rubbed my hands with glee targeting Ben Roethlisberger. As you probably guessed, my buddy stole Roethlisberger right out from under my nose, one pick in front of me at 7.11. I settled for the next highest QB on my sheet, Alex Smith -- Yuck! What a comedown. My full QBBC consists of:

7.12 Alex Smith

9.12 J.P. Losman

12.01 Byron Leftwich :goodposting:

Keep in mind that because of the mandatory roster requirements, 36 QBs are currently rostered. The waiver wire is bare. Leftwich's dismissal has left me high and dry, without even bye week coverage for week 6. I am going to have to make a move, unless a new NFL team signs and starts Leftwich. Not bloody likely.

...

1.12/2.01 - RB/RB - Travis Henry / Laurence Maroney ( Bush was available )

3.12/4.01 - WR/WR - Lee Evans / TJ Houshmandzadeh

5.12/6.01 - RB/WR - Adrian Peterson / Santana Moss

7.12/8.01 - QB/RB - Alex Smith / Fred Taylor

9.12/10.01 - QB/WR - JP Losman / Ronald Curry

11.12/12.01 - TE/QB - Dallas Clark / Leftwich

13.12/14.01 - WR/TE - Wes Welker / Bo Scaife

15/16/17/18 - 2 kickers and 2 defenses

Results: Not bad. Roethlisberger outscored Manning 14.6 to 12.4. Just an average game from both.

Week 3: Roethlisberger vs. 49ers over Manning vs. Redskins.

Results: The correct play again, but neither set the world on fire. Roethlisberger outscored Manning 12.2 to 9.2.

Week 4 Probable: Manning vs. Eagles over Roethlisberger vs. Cardinals. I feel comfortable with this.

Through 3 weeks, my starter has scored 57.4 points and the league leader, Tom Brady, has scored 94.1. This puts Big Ben at QB11. Had I started Manning in Game 1, I'd have 63.4 points. That would place my QBBC at QB10 (.9 points behind QB9, Peyton Manning).

QBBC Hasselbeck and Grossman now Bulger.

Started Hasselbeck week 1

Going with Grossman week 2 - I figure the Bears will want to establish Grossman and their offense.

Week 3: Started Hasselbeck after watching Rex quickly self destruct. As luck would have it I dropped Rex and was able to pick up Bulger - another owner was fed up with his performance.

Week 4: Starting Hasselbeck. Bulger is still a risky play with his health, offensive line and S Jax being out.

Results: The correct play again, but neither set the world on fire. Roethlisberger outscored Manning 12.2 to 9.2.

Week 4: Manning vs. Eagles over Roethlisberger vs. Cardinals. I feel comfortable with this.

Results: Well, this was a mistake. Roethlisberger outscored Manning 20.3 to 9.4.

Week 5 Probable: Manning vs. Jets over Roethlisberger vs. Seahawks.

Through 4 weeks, my starter has scored 66.8 points and the league leader, Tony Romo, has scored 132.9 points. Ouch! This puts Big Ben at QB8 with 77.7 points and Eli at QB11 with 67.6 points.

Had I started Manning in Game 1 and Roethlisberger in Game 4, I'd have 83.7 points. That would place my QBBC at QB8 (5.7 points behind QB7, Jon Kitna).

Week 5: Manning vs. Jets over Roethlisberger vs. Seahawks.

Results: Worked out well. Manning outscored Roethlisberger 19.1 to 14.3.

Week 6: Manning @ Falcons over Roethlisberger on bye.

Through 5 weeks, my starter has scored 82.9 points and the league leaders, Tom Brady and Tony Romo, have scored 147.9 points. Ouch! This puts Big Ben at QB7 with 92 points and Eli at QB9 with 86.7 points.

Had I started Manning in Game 1 and Roethlisberger in Game 4, I'd have 102.8 points. That would place my QBBC at QB6 (4.9 points behind QB5, Derek Anderson and 6.2 points behind QB4, Brett Favre).

Week 7: Manning vs. 49ers over Roethlisberger @ Broncos.

Results: Bad. Roethlisberger outscored Manning 31.6 to 15.8.

Week 8: Roethlisberger @ Bengals over Manning @ Dolphins (in London).

Through 5 weeks, my starter has scored 118.8 points and the league leader, Tom Brady, has scored 246 points. Ouch! This puts Big Ben at QB7 with 123.6 points and Eli at QB8 with 122.6 points.

Had I started Manning in Game 1 and Roethlisberger in Games 4 and 7 (which would have been me playing my best starter), I'd have 154.5 points. That would place my QBBC at QB3 (26.7 points behind QB2, Tony Romo and 91.5 points behind QB1, Tom Brady).
