Seattle homers: What's the deal with the backfield heading (1 Viewer)

I haven't seen the 'hawks play since early on in the season, but as has been discussed in several threads, Alexander's stats are a shadow of what they were two years ago. So how will the coaching staff distribute the carries in the playoffs? Will it be mostly Alexander carrying the rock? Will Morris be the primary back? Or will they split carries between the two?? Any insight is appreciated.

Alexander and Morris are in a RBBC based on the pace of the game and the production of the offense. They are a pass first team now and the run is just there to keep people honest. This isn't going to change. Alexander won't see more than 12 touches IMO unless they get way ahead and they are just running the clock out.

I saw on an ESPN crawler that Alexander need 1 TD to get to career 100. Does that mean he's guaranteed a TD in Atlanta?
Probably they will give him a GL carry or two if they get a chance. Whether he'll be able to make it in is another story. The team and the RBs have been absolutely ghastly in short yardage situations this season. Holmgren hasn't "started" SA in a few games, he's not coming in til the 2nd or 3rd series. He looked pretty good last weekend, but the line also looked better than they have for a long time too. I think it's guarnateed that the Walrus will give SA at least a chance or two to get it, but if push comes to shove he'll give it to Weaver if SA does what he has every other time since week 1 on short yardage.

Hey Mad Sweeney,Do you see Weaver getting any extra work this weekend? Id

Hard to say since Wallace will most likely play the whole second half, possibly even the second quarter. I think he will get the majority of carries, but since it will be the 2nd team offense most (or at least half) the game I really don't know what the playcalling/gameplan will be like. I think the chances are good that he receives the most carries, but who knows how much they'll run it. It could be 10-12 carries or 20+.

Do you really believe in a mean nothing game that push will come to shove? I could be wrong here but I would think that SA has earned as many chances as he needs to get his 100th td. Why would Weaver get it over it SA?

They're going to want to score a TD. If SA can't get it in, they'll do something else whether it's Weaver or a bootleg or whatever. They're not going to sacrifice a TD just to give SA a 3rd chance at a stat line. SA hasn't earned squat this year, he got his $67 million and hasn't come close to earning that. And a lot of that $ was paying him for what he has already accomplished. He still has at least one playoff game to to get the TD as well.

I believe they will give him the first crack or two, and they could easily bring him back in late in the game like they did to set the record a few years ago. But they aren't going to settle for a FG just to give SA another chance if he doesn't take advantage of the first opps. But that's a situational thing. They may never see a play from inside the 5 yard line.

And when I say "push comes to shove" I'm talking about within a drive, not the game overall. If it's 3rd and goal and SA hasn't gotten in with the first 2 carries they'll try something else. Whoever is out there will be playing to win. He may get several first shots at it as well depending on how the game goes. But with his short yardage performances this year, I'm not holding my breath to see him get that TD.

Yeah but when have the Seahawks given the ball to Weaver inside the five? SA gets all the carries to get his 100th if you ask me. Game means nothing outside of that TD but I do still think they will win with the back-ups on the road. Atlanta is really bad.

The play calling this year has not been complementary to SA, especially short distance. How many times has SA gotten the short yardage call? Very few times, and the only times he's taken advantage of it was when the line busts a huge hole. He is rarely the short distance option, mainly because he fails. Are you saying that 3rd and goal from the 3 with 2 previous no gainers that they'll just let SA try a 3rd time to get the TD instead of trying a higher percentage play? They might, but I don't think so. If SA digs deep and takes advantage of the first tries they give him, it won't be an issue. But watching the team and SA in particular in short yardage (and there's less than a 1% chance Walter Jones plays btw), if they din't get it in 2 tries on the ground they're not going to get it on a 3rd try. And I can't see them settling on a FG just to get him a stat. I absolutely believe they will try and get him the TD, just not at the cost of doing it just to do it. If he can't get it on his first tries, then he doesn't deserve it. But if the line, even without Jones, and SA can play like they did against Baltimore, and there's no reason to think they can't/won't, they won't have to worry about it. I can think of 1 short yardage TD Weaver had. Usually they run a bootleg and try to keep it away from RBs in general. Otherwise it's Morris. How many GL carries has SA had?

Seems like a different scenario this weekend though. Seattle has nothing to play for but that 100th TD. Also giving SA any boost going into the playoffs is a win/win in my book. I want him to do well because if he is running well they have a better chance to win. That's all I really care about.

I guess all the other years dont count. I cant see Holmgren going to Weaver or Morris with SA needing 1 lousy td to reach such a great milestone in a mean nothing game no matter what the score.

No they don't. He already got multi millions for the last few years. Last I checked, previous years' stats don't apply to this year's win/loss column. And he'll still have another game to get a TD in, one that counts and he can earn his TD. There are plenty of other people on the team that have made up for SA's lack of performance this year who have earned things. I'm not saying they won't try, they will. But I don't see them bending over backwards to keep feeding him the ball to get the TD if he isn't doing anything with it. As for Homgren and SA's numbers "I got stabbed in the back" ring a bell? Holmgren will do what he needs to do to score. If SA fails, then he'll get someone else to do it. SA can avoid that by not failing.

SA has been a drive killer all year long, the O line isnt helping much but he cant do anything without massive holes where he wont be brushed against
