Selvin Young - Value going forward (1 Viewer)

Other sites might be saying that, but most other sites have a history of thinking Shanahan is a lot flakier than he really is. They think he benches RBs for a single fumble, or something of the sort. I can provide PLENTY of examples of the main RB having a very costly fumble and keeping his job. Remember when Mike Anderson was the workhorse and he lost a fumble at the goal line against the Chargers in week 2? He was injured, had a key fumble, and had his backups both perform extremely well in his absence... and he still held on to the job.Mike Shanahan bases his depth chart on everything he has seen from the two RBs all through minicamps, training camps, preseason, weekly practices, *AND* games. Based on that overwhelming body of evidence, Shanahan concluded that Young was clearly the better bet. He's not going to revise that opinion based on one game, LET ALONE based on just one carry (which is essentially what Hall had).Whatever role Young was in line for before the Titans game, that's the exact same role he's going to be in line for after the Tennessee game. Nothing happened during the game to shake that up, unless Young's injury is more serious than we're being led to believe (and, believe it or not, Shanahan's usually very upfront about injury info, so I don't believe it is). If Henry's suspended, Young's still the back to own. Just my humble opinion.
 Nicely said.
I have been watching Shanny for years and he changes his depth chart like a change of clothes. The fact that Young has been RB2 on the depth chart means very little. As far as blocking, it can be taught. Breaking off 60 yards runs? Unteachable. Being durable? Unteachable.
Breaking off 60 yards runs? Unteachable.take out the "s" in runs, he only had one so far. (even quinten griffin busted a fat run, dont say much)

Hall quoted on his lack of blocking skills:

QUOTE

Missed block, big run. Andre Hall was in the doghouse. Having just come in for injured running back Selvin Young in the third quarter, Hall failed to pick up a safety blitz by Vincent Fuller. Jay Cutler was sacked and the Broncos had to punt.

"Oh, man, it was killing me," Hall said. "I knew I had the gap and they had me down. I missed a big block. I'm still hurting off that. I had to redeem myself."

On the next series, the Broncos asked Hall to run instead of block. He exploded for a 62-yard touchdown run. He said he would give the ball from his first touchdown to his mom.

There are a lot of running backs and offensive lineman that miss assignments every week. If Shannahan thinks he can use Hall to his advantage in certain situations he will use him. I believe Denver is 5-5, Denver did not get that record playing mistake free football. Cutler has probably thrown a few bad interceptions this year, he is on the field because he gives the team the best chance to win. Lets not point to one mistake by a player and insinuate that he has no chance to play.

During preseason, yeah, he cycles through a lot of depth charts. In the middle of the season? Not unless there's a drastic situation. Also, breaking off 60 yard runs is a skill that every single RB in the entire NFL possesses. Even Mike Anderson, widely considered the slowest Denver RB in recent ages, took a screen pass 80 yards to the house. It's easy to run 60 yards for a score when the blocking is so good that all you have to do is beat one man and then sprint downfield untouched. Hall is no faster than Young, so I fail to see how that's a skill that Hall possesses that Young doesn't. And even if it is... Tatum Bell was the biggest home-run threat Shanahan's ever had. Where's Tatum Bell these days? Oh yeah, he's in Detroit, with his "unteachable" home-run ability, because it turns out he COULDN'T be taught blocking after all. There are two parts to blocking. One is the fundamentals- diagnosing the play, being in the correct place, etc. The other part is simple want-to. You could have perfect fundamentals, but unless you have a blocker's mentality, you'll be a horrible blocker... and that "blocker's mentality" is unteachable. Tatum Bell never had it. Mike Anderson always did. That's a big reason why Anderson got the ball and Tatum didn't. It's possible that Hall just has horrible fundamentals, but it's also possible that he's lacking the desire (heck, it's even possible that he's the best blocker on the team and that was just one fluke play). My point is that we can't draw conclusions off of what is essentially a sample size of 1, and that Shanahan certainly will not be, either.I'm also curious as to how you're so sure that a guy with 15 career carries is durable.

Oh he'll def play. But people hear are talking like Hall will take Young's starting job.
