Seventh Woods - Best 14 year old BBall player...EVER? (1 Viewer)

that big cross over he takes above his shoulders with his right hand should be called every time.... about a dozen of them in the highlight reel.
Dribbling above the shoulders isn't a violation.
didn't say it was..
So what should be called? His hand is on top of the ball the entire time. His in and out dribble is the closest thing to a violation on that reel and that is nothing compared to what even NCAA guys get away with.

My buddy has been on my case about us going to see him play this season. He thinks he's gonna be he next Lebron. So, ssometime in the next couple of months I'm gonna go watch this guy play. Would anyone else feel weird about going to a highschool basketball game even though you have no affiliation with that certain school?
I see you are in Lexington so you maybe able to answer this.Is Hammond now recruiting basketball players? If not, his parents obviously have the money to pay for private school and that means his background is not like most.
The private schools around here tend to set aside a number of scholarships for inner-city kids who just so happen to be really good at sports. Funny how that works.
It's illegal in CA but odd how the athletes get aid from outside sources (ie the Italian-American Foundation...made up example.) But schools like Mater Dei and De La Salle don't recruit (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)

That may be technically how it works here too, I'm not 100% on the specifics. I don't think they're allowed to "recruit".

I'm from Columbia where Woods plays and they were not known for this but I guess things can change.

Kind of crazy what HS basketball has become. Outside of Garnett, I don't remember all too many HS kids getting this sort of press.

Yeah, it's crazy how high school players in the 70s and 80s didn't have highlight videos on Youtube.
I'm more talking about things like the top 100 list for the class of 2016. Which HS freshman are the most "NBA ready".

Kind of sick.

Wait until you hear about the 4'6" 6th grader who plays varsity in Orlando and is about to lead the state in assists for the second straight season. Led all Florida players with 10+ apg as an 11 year old last year. Averaging something like 17 ppg and 10 apg this year at age 12. Unfortunately, both parents are short and he's probably going to top out well under 6' tall. Google Julian Newman. School plays weak comp for the most part, but still...

There's a kid in NC named Damon Harge who is similar, small point, but just got his first full ride offer in 7th grade.

NC = NorCal or did Harge move back east? I thought he was from Modesto.

Didn't say he doesn't or wouldn't get away with it either (obviously he does). No, his hand doesn't stay on top of the ball the entire time.

You can talk yourself into it if you want... I'll leave it as obvious.

Just saw that his 9 year old sister, a 4th grader, also starts for the same school's girls varsity team, and is averaging 14 points and nearly 8 dimes per game. On ESPN.com.

Everyone gets away with it because it's a legal move. If you think an in-and-out is carrying you should probably just stop watching the game at all levels > u8.

He WAS in NorCal though, right? Or am I just mixing up his highlight vids?

No, you're not confused, I think he moved there from Modesto.

I'm thinking about going to see Woods play tomorrow night. The only problem is that I'm told I have to get there for the girls game in order to have any chance of getting in the game for the men's game. On second thought I may just stay home and watch football.

What a kid is as a 13-14 year old athletically doesn't always translate to even the HS level, much less college and beyond.

My son's HS is pretty big and highly competitive athletically. There was a kid in his grade that was their best basketball player 7th-9th grade. They lost one game over that entire stretch. Now that kid is a Junior and plays 5 minutes a game on varsity and has said he's not even going to play Senior year.

Things change for boys a lot from the early teens into 17-18.
