Shannara Chronicles (1 Viewer)

So was actually surprised they stuck with the book ending with Amberle's fate. Feel like that actually took some guts considering how most of the viewing public leans towards happy endings. They did telegraph it way too much though, IIRC in the book it was a big surprising twist (been decades since I read it though, may remember wrong.)

LOL moment this episode, riding montage to a terrible song where they travel from Safehold all the way back to elfland in about 2 mins via horseback. Why introduce the Roc from the earlier episode and not at least use that as fast transport back?
That song was soooooo bad. Personally, I'd have gone with Neil Diamond there.

Read the original trilogy 30 or so years ago. I loved the books. People can bash Terry Brooks all they want but he knows how to write a fun story. I've moved on to the more gritty type fantasy series in my adulthood but as a teen age kid you could do a lot worse than reading Brooks.

As for the show..I got my hopes up for the first episode because it started off pretty good. MTV of course killed most of it with the sappy love triangle crap, bad acting, and adding in a bunch of things that didn't belong in the story. It still has just enough good points to keep me entertained however.

in May 2017, it was announced that the series would relocate to Spike. The second season is set to premiere on October 11, 2017.

Any info on what the second season is based on?  I thought it was strange to use this series as a base for a TV show, long airing shows are usually about getting to know characters and deciding to stick with a show.  From what I've read (most, though not all of the books) each book centers on a different generation and few characters jump from book to book in a significant way.

I don't have much other than they aren't jumping to Wishsong for the very reason you cite, there are big time jumps between novels with the only common character usually Allanon. Supposedly the new season is going to explore the events that occur after Elfstones but prior to Wishsong (however that will work.)

Ah, so it looks like they are just writing their own story.  Actually I like that because it means I won't want to watch it.  I still enjoy the books, but damn that show pissed me off, if they jumped to another book I like I'd have a hard time avoiding it.  Now, no problem!

I actually think I might be okay with that.  I read the books so long ago (and quit reading that genre maybe after wish song) that the plot relative to the books/series might be pretty much irrelevant.  Actually, I just looked on Wikipedia.  I may have read the next 2 or 3.
